http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/dolphins/2008-07-10-running-backs_N.htm Carl Kotala, Florida Today DAVIE, Fla. — If one's a little bit country, the other's a little bit ... Bob Marley meets Yanni? Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams— together again. With Jason Taylor missing in action, Jake Long getting set to be the franchise left tackle and three quarterbacks battling it out for the starting job, the reunion of the two Miami Dolphins running backs hasn't generated a lot of fanfare this offseason. But if the team is going to rebound from last season's 1-15 debacle, the old R&R Express is going to have to get rolling again.
I think that RW is going to explode this year, I don't see why a 1,000 + yard season and possible Pro Bowl berth wouldn't be possible, for the following reasons: - he's in great shape, has put weight back on, and by all accounts looks very sharp. - Ronnie Brown will most likely be eased back into the saddle, providing opportunity for RW to do his thing. - The OL will be tons better this year- can't wait to see the holes that JLong, VCarey, JSmiley, Satele open up this year. - Parcells/Sparano will make smashmouth, running football the offensive focus this year, which means that RW will be the offensive focus. - RW is what, 30 or 31, with low mileage- there's no reson why he can't come back extremely strong and be one of the best backs in the league. - he's been working his tail off over the summer and has impressed almost everyone with his speed, strength, quickness, and hard work. - anyone who has seen him run knows that he is one of the most talented backs to ever play the game- his upside is phenomenal. turn the clock back a few years to that Buffalo game and others- the dude is just a phenomenal running back. Hopefully RW rips it up this year, we'll see what happens. And if he does, and if the Fins QB (whoever it turns out to be) has a good year, my guess is that a fair amount of credit will be going towards one guy in particular- Jake Long.
I wish Ricky could have kept his head on straight over the years. I used to love watching that guy murder DB's and LB's. Hopefully we can get that 1-2 punch that we need to punish the defense once again and return to glory days. I'm excited to see this years running game. Both Ronnie and Ricky will rip your head off and that's all ways fun to watch.
You'll find out who Ricky Williams is in the Jets game, when he runs for over 100 yeards while we upset the Jets. And later in the season you'll find out how great the combo will be when Ronnie is full speed and the two of them combine for over 2,000 yards rushing this season. Smashmouth football returns to Miami folks, its gonna be fun to watch!
Well, I still believe in the old saying "fool me once, shame on you...fool me (more than) twice shame on me...however... Ricky Williams can explode this year, we already know that Brown can get the job done when healthy and that the two backs work well together and we also know that Tunaland likes to run the two back offense. Putting all this together it looks like this could be an exciting year for our running game. There are still questions about Brown's health and Ricky Williams head and even if they have a successful year will still have questions about these two guys (well at least about Ricky Williams head). Aside from questions about the two backs, we still have questions about the offensive line. Truthfully most of us feel that the line will be much improved but we still have to see it in action. Either way it's got to be a fun year...
Ricky Williams has spent ten years trying to figure that out himself g&sh. Hard to rely on Ronnie Brown though, at least at the beginning of the season, about game 6 we should see both up and running well....
i hear ya, when the risk side is so low(vet minimum)...why not. we have a nice stable of some explosive and powerful backs going. with the two rooks, i dont think we'll get to the point where we're dependent on Ricky.
It's purely coincidence, but when Ricky Williams is on this team we win. Now we don't make the playoffs, but at least we carry a winning record. I hope that both Running Backs will have a big year and I do have high expectations that they will. However, I wouldn't be surprised to see them start off slow then turn it on due to a few reasons. Teams are going to be prepared to stop the run against us, until we have some sort of passing game. Plus, it always takes a few games for our O-Line to get off to a solid start. I expect them to be a solid O-Line and by the end of year, if healthy, to be a very solid unit--which will make the running game that much better as the year goes on.
Not last year rdhstlr. in fact, we lost the ONE game he was in. and he LOST a fumble too. J/k I love the guy, i have a navy jersey of his
Hey Marty! Good to see ya. I moved out to Crested Butte CO. I've been out of the loop for a while. But I'm back just in time for T.C
