I fear this may go down in flames but what the hell, as a relatively new convert to american football i have always wondered what the benefits would be of playing a formation with two quarterbacks on the field? I know it has been done at college level and is technically legal in the NFL, but what are the disadvantages? surely it is going to confuse the hell out of a defense.

I had this thought when thinking about if the colts did retain Manning and then running a system that places Manning AND Luck on the field at the same time, although i think a combo of Manning and RG3 would work out much better in this system.

Why waste a position on a decoy when you could have an extra blocker or receiver?

Your QB is generally bad at everything else, so you lose a ton by having him on the field and you don't gain much more than a one shot gadget play.
