Well.... I definitely didn’t expect that. Not with how Fitz has been playing. But I’ll trust the coaching staff.
It was the spike in TV ratings. OR that Tua has never thrown an incomplete pass or failed to convert a third down....
fitz is not the future and Dolphins don’t care about winning now !! Let’s Go the future is upon us and embrace it !! Just have faith and believe
Awesome!! Very confident Tua will prove to be the franchise QB we've all been waiting for, even if he has some growing pains. My interest in this season just shot up tremendously.
Fitzpatrick reached his peak. It was only going to be downhill from here. He definitely didn't look right in the second half on Sunday. Or, this was just the plan all along. Tua was going to sit six games and then get handed the keys. I, for one, am excited.
I am a bit surprised by this relatively early move. Flores did the same thing last season with Rosen, but when we weren't doing well and losing, he did go back to Fitz. We'll see. I just hope that this is a COACHING decision and not a decision being pushed down on him from the organization overhead...marketing and all. I understand there is pressure on playing Tagovailoa seeing that Burrow and Herbert are playing and doing well...relatively. I just hope that Tua shows he is what the team believes he is and he's not being put in to early.
I think Fitzy's 2nd half against the Jets proved that he has a definite ceiling. The rebuild is ahead of schedule, so we might as well see if they can contend. Tua is in a much better position than Justin Herbert or Joe Burrow.
I definitely want to see whether Tua can play, so I am glad we're going to get the chance. I am slightly concerned, because I hope this isn't a case of the ownership pressuring Flores to play Tua now, not because I don't think that's the right thing to do, but more because I don't want to see Ross exerting that kind of pressure on Flores. Let the man coach the team his way. It's the only way you'll know if you've got the right guy at HC.
Flores doesn’t strike me as the kind of coach who takes football orders from owners/front office staff.
My guess it is a combination of Tua showing a grasp of the offense, looking ready to go, being the long term plan, Fitz being very inconsitent, and the line playing well.
The team as whole has been playing well, particularly on defense which has really surprised me. Having a good strong defense actually helps the offense, particularly with a young rookie quarterback. Offensively, Myles Gaskins and Matt Breida need to step it up! An effective running game is so crucial to the success of a quarterback in the passing game. The team as a whole can't just sit back and place the weight of winning squarely on Tagoviloa's shoulders. Tua's going to go through some growing pains and everyone is going to have to play twice as good just to be good enough.
btw.. if Tua can play above average (I know.. hard to ask for any rookie, but Herbert is doing it) that question about whether the Dolphins can make the playoffs suddenly leans towards yes, especially with 7 playoff teams per conference.
Not sure if I love it or hate it. I think Tua obviously needs to see the field so that we can get a grasp on what we have. That said, at 3-3 with expanded playoffs, I'm thinking of sneaking in this year. I think this will definitely, mildly, hurt those chances just due to experience.
Same kinda a weird move in all honesty. Rams have a good defense are 4-2 but we are at home. Just seems odd since was having a banner year. Yes, I wanted him to play but has he OUTPERFORMED Fitz and won the JOB or just been handed it?
Why settle for a WC birth? This team gave Buffalo all it had with Fitzpatrick. They have a legit shot at the Division.
It's not so much that ilI want to settle, but I had us pegged at 8-8 this year give or take a game. I'd love if we exceeded those expectations but I tend to not move far from my initial prediction unless something crazy happens.
Fitz has been a good QB. But look, had he been able to find the End Zone a few more time against Seattle they may have won that game. He threw multiple picks against New England. Had the Jets Offence not been catastrophically bad, Fitzpatrick's play could have allowed them a chance to get back into Sunday's game. This team can be better than it is now.
Fitz has been playing out of his mind. Tua is going to hit some real bumps. Trusting the coach if we take a step back it might hurt any chances for a playoff spot this year but will benefit us for the long run.
Flores isn't on the Hot Seat. He wouldn't make this move if he didn't think Tua was ready. No one would have said peep if Tua did sit all season. No one has actually seen him short of those 2 minutes against the Jets because of no Preseason.
I am lukewarm on the move and I say that as a Tua lover. I think Miami is making a prudent move. We are literally one Desean Watson hit away from having a chance at the overall #1 and a truly generational talent in Lawrence. Miami has to have a sample size of what Tua can do or not do. Worst case he fails and we double down. Or his body can't take an NFL beating. Or he excels and we can trade down for a bounty of picks. I don't think this is the primary reason why he is starting but you have to believe it's being factored in, even if it's slightly.
Fitzpatrick hasn't been playing "out of his mind". He has been playing like Ryan Fitzpatrick. Wildly inconsistent with flashes of great quarterback play. He is what he is and that's a .500 quarterback.
He's the leader of the team and has helped develop fringe guys like Devante Parker in to top 10 NFL WR's and has made Gesicki go from looking like a scrub to a difference maker. Don't underestimate the intangibles, heart, desire and hustle of Fitz. He's so much more than that occasional INT or lame duck pass.
Can we officially retire the Tannehill thread and start a Tua one now that our prized rookie is starting and that Tannehill is unquestionably an elite talent?
were not getting Lawrence. we have 3 wins already there will be teams now seeing nothing to win and diving to the bottom for him. Jets are the most likely to get him IMHO and that's scary.
You don't know that DVP and the rest of the team won't respond to Tua the same. Flores is the glue on this team, not Fitzy. Fitz is still there to mentor Tua, he knows this is his team.
He's talking about the Texans pick we have. Even if that pick lands, I wouldn't take Lawrence. Maybe trade down to a team other than the Jets, if anything.
