yeah there is practice today, actually for almost an hour lol.... - dion jordan is not practicing - nate garner starting RG - jerry got his knee scoped, thats why he is out
Was Dion Jordan getting hurt mentioned at any point in the aftermath of the preseason game? He only played like a series or two before leaving the game. I like the idea of Nate Garner starting at a Guard position. He's played pretty well at times, and I think he's a guy who needs some sort of consistency to reach that level.
jerry is dressed but working on the side....what you think if he already is dressing for practice again, i think he comes back latest next week
The guards when it is all said and done are going to be Richie and Louis… just a matter of LL getting healthy
isn't it kind of nice if guys like taylor and matthews come back now..3 weeks into camp, i must admit I expected both to show something this season...so this will something fresh to watch after 3 weeks
They haven't missed a ton of time compared to most players for other teams though, just so much it seems because we started a week early with the extra game. There's still 3 games and 3 weeks of practice left for them to get work in.
not much happening today, no 11vs11 they cleaned up stuff according to omar kelly, nate garner apparently looking good at RG , also interesting Jim Turner working out DT AJ Francis as OL after practice
Sounds like it was a pretty low-key practice today. Chris Perkins @chrisperk33m Practice almost over. No 11-on-11 today. Looks like cleaning up stuff from game. Lotsa individual drills, fundamentals. James Walker @JamesWalkerNFL36m Not many team drills for the #Dolphins today. Much of the focus on individual work and special teams. Chris Perkins @chrisperk52m Takeaway from OL v. DL: Lance Louis & Dallas Thomas need lotsa work. Starters need work, too. OL remains weakness. James Walker @JamesWalkerNFL1h #Dolphins DT Paul Soliai powers through Josh Samuda in blocking drills. Chris Perkins @chrisperk1h OL v DL: wake whips Clabo, Vernon beat jonathan Martin. Richie beat Odrick, Randall beat Pouncey, garner beat Martin Andrew Abramson @AbramsonPBP1h Marvin McNutt makes a grab in 1 on 1 drills but drops it after Grimes gets to him. Tannehill was QB #Dolphins James Walker @JamesWalkerNFL1h #Dolphins CB Brent Grimes just made a leaping, one-handed INT during DB drills. The guy is an athlete. Chris Perkins @chrisperk1h Looks like Dallas Thomas settled in exclusively at RT. haven't seen him any other spot since HOF game.
James Walker @JamesWalkerNFL4m #Dolphins OC Mike Sherman said we've only seen "about 40 percent" of the team's offense so far in the first two preseason games.
Mike Sherman after practice said they had 8 or 9 plays called that could have or should have gone to Mike Wallace, but none of them did. That's very concerning. It shows how much impact shaky pass protection can have on the offense.
A couple more points from the coaches. 1. Joe Philbin and Mike Sherman both pointed out that Josh Samuda hurt his hand on one of the first plays of the Jaguars game. Philbin noted that Nate Garner is definitely in the mix to start at Right Guard but noted that Samuda was not the only problem with the offensive line. 2. Joe Philbin refused to comment on Dion Jordan sitting out practice today but personally I didn't take it as a GOOD sign when I saw Dion tweet yesterday, "Tough situations don't last but tough people do." 3. As I said before, Sherman stated that 8 or 9 of the play calls in the game could have or should have gone to Mike Wallace but other issues (namely protection) prevented the ball from going there. 4. Mike Sherman also stated that he is not a fan of the 3rd down back approach, as he feels like it tips your hand as an offense. He wants all-around backs. Something I've been trying to point out for weeks.
I think it may be more about sending a message to Samuda. He had some bad plays on Friday and he got yanked pretty quickly afterwards. Hurry back John Jerry...
I think Garner looked pretty good. He was able to stabilize Marks, the guy that pushed Samuda around a little. Garner is a big man and is not going to get pushed around.
Me too. He was considered a likely starter going into 2010 (IIRC), but hurt his foot in camp and missed the season. He's been considered a reserve ever since. Wasn't it in 2009, when he played like 3 positions in one game due to injuries?
I hope that is the case. I think that would be a good group of receivers, with Thigpen catching duties at rb and wr.
I think all our backs are pretty capable as every down backs, so it seems apparent how he believes based on the quartet of backs we have in camp.
Well considering people have been saying for months and months and months that Daniel Thomas' job as the 3rd down back is secure, evidently yeah. You do. Because everyone still assumes that Daniel Thomas is a 3rd down back.
yeah, probably one of those guys that is never going to be a great player but he serviceable enough to be a very good backup at multiple positions
<shoulder shrug> if that is the personnel you have and you have to do it… I guess… otherwise it is just dumb.
BTW, I thinks DT's job as the 2nd back is secure… not sure I want him as a 3rd down back IF that is what the Fins think they need to do (personally I just go with Miller and call it a day)
Agree with you on the first three.. not a fan of Tyms… looks slow… we need to get away from those types of players.
