I know he's older, but he still had over 700yd last year and I think he would be a great mentor for our younger receivers. He is nothing but classy and I'm sure he would come dirt cheap. So.....why not? Why our we so timid in getting a receiver? By no means do I think he would be a #1, but it doesn't seem we are looking for a #1 receiver this year. He could come in and the teach our young guys a lot about route running and timing. Just a thought, so don't bite my head off if you don't like it. Just wondered if anyone else had Torry on their minds
I wanted him last year so he could teach the young one's what to do and they didn't sign him then.Would have helped Henne(come to think of it) also. I don't see him making this years roster for sure.
I agree that he is classy and he would teach the receivers the position better. Honestly I would like to see it but at the same time I don't think the front office would do it. I personally think they wouldn't do it because of his age. I don't think his abilities has dropped that much that he couldn't be useful even for one year.
I could think of a few: Johnson, Pruitt, Mullen. I would drop either of them to pick up Holt. He matched our leading receiver last year in yards! That and he hasn't really slowed a whole lot. His football knowledge is incredible, and would bring leadership to the young group of receivers. I personally think he could get Bess closer to what would be called a "#1". That and the fact that Turner will likely get more playing time and will need some direction, it just adds up for me
And of those guys who would really have made the final roster cut? Holt would have to replace Camarillo, Bess, Hartline, Turner, Ginn.
who would a drafted guy replace? everyone is high on us getting one in the draft but that too means we have to drop someone
It's a lot easier to cut or trade one of them for another young guy as opposed to Holt for just a year.
None of those players you listed are going to make the team you would have to chose between Ginn, Hartline, Bess, Cam, and Turner
well......Ginn is a waste of space on our roster. He will never become a good receiver and his limited talents in the return game have only done so much. so I would give the long needed boot to good ole' Teddy Ginn. Then maybe we could focus on our other receivers
While Ginn is not a #1 receiver, he is getting payed little and is probably the second best receiver on the team, besides Bess. Id say bye to Camarillo before i said bye to Ginn.
He's far from second best on this team. Bess is ahead, so is Hartline and Camarillo IMO. They at least get open and make plays when given opportunities. That being said, I'd hate to drop Ginn too. I know he hasn't been stellar for us, but there is still tons of potential there that, hopefully we can tap into. If not this year, then good bye. That being said, at this point with our WR's, I dont see us adding Holt. We didnt last year, we probably wont this year. As someone else has already stated, its tough to have to cut a young guy, simply to bring in and older vet like Holt to "mentor" our your WR's. There's much more upside to keeping the younger player and having our COACHES mentor and coach up his skills. Nevermind taking up a roster spot for a WR to do that, thats why we have position coaches.
I see what your saying, I just dont think we need yet another 700 yards 4 TD receiver in the mix.....we have 4 of them already....we need the man!!! whoever it maybe...
really why?? I wouldnt get rid of Cam at all....he is a hard worker, a good guy, runs nice routes, a solid 3rd wr...not afraid to mix it up and go over the middle of the field..getting rid of Cam would be a mistake IMO
Bess is the best receiver on the team and most effective as a slot receiver. But if Hartline and Camarillo are better than Ginn, why are they not starting over him. I think Hartline has potential to be the #2 receiver for us for the future but as of now, id take Ginn over ever receiver on the team, except Bess.
I can understand what your trying to say, I kind of see it from a different perspective. Maybe Ginn starts over Hartline but that doesn't mean he is more productive than Hartline. Ginn has a starters role and has 38 Rec, 454 Yds, with 28.4 Yds per game, 11.9 yard average, with a long of 53 yards, and 1.3 Yds after catch, 25 1st downs and 1 Td Hartline not as a starter has 31 Rec, 506 Yds, 31.6 yards per game, 16.3 yard average, with a long of 67 yards, and 5.6 Yds after catch 26 first downs and 3 Tds. And don't forget Hartline was a rookie and Ginn has been a Dolphin for 3 years. I am not saying get rid of Ginn but I think I would take Hartline over Ginn.
Hartline has never drawn a double team before. Ginn has been doubled multiple times this season. And when he isnt on the field, the opposite defense focuses on Bess. What i am saying is if there was a clear cut #1 reciever on the team. Id take Ginn hands down over Hartline for the #2. And Bess at slot.
Ginn to start!?!?!? When in god's name have you see any performance from Ginn in his entire career with the Fins that justifies your starting him over the three superior receivers we have? Cam runs 10x better routes, add Bess to that statement as well. Hartline gives 10x the effort on the field and isn't afraid to get hit by other players. All this means is our other receivers find more opportunities to make plays. As far as the double teams that has rarely happened. Teams know all he can do is run sideline or out routes. He NEVER goes near the middle of the field, to terrified of making contact with a defender. As much as Ginn has been a HUGE failure, people still want to think there is an upside. At what point do we see him for what he is, a speedster that doesn't fight for the ball and only gets decent returns when he gets lucky and can avoid a contact
Cam is slow as all get out and could never compete with a teams #1 CB. I love Cam as much as anyone but he knows he is limited in what he can do. Sure he runs better routes but he cant get open. Does Hartline give 10x more effort than Ginn? Absolutely!! But, effort can only go so far if you dont have the physical tools to get the job done. Now, I love Hartline and Cam both more than Ginn, but i can honestly see either of them starting over Ginn.
I agree that Cam is not a #1 receiver and doesn't have a lot of physical talent. Then again, his route running is what gets him open. Ginn just proves over and over that he has the skills to be great, but is too afraid and lacks the football IQ to be one. Therefor I would rather start our other WR. As far as Hartline goes.... besides his lack of down-field speed he is stronger, tougher and has better ability to go get the ball. This all will add up in getting him more rec then Ginn on a game to game basis. It's about consistency, something Ginn will never have
