Tom Savage learned Friday that even if his surprise was spoiled, he still had the power to shoot thrills up a state.

The monstrously sought quarterback out of Cardinal O'Hara High School in Springfield, Pa., made official what had been leaked Thursday – he's headed to Rutgers.

Rivals.com's sixth-best quarterback prospect and a consensus top 25 prospect regardless of position, Savage is being hailed as the Scarlet Knights' biggest "get" yet.

Savage cited Rutgers' "family atmosphere" in an afternoon news conference at Cardinal O'Hara.

Savage was the MVP of the U.S. Army All-American combine in San Antonio four months ago when he measured a hair under 6 feet 5 and weighed 217 pounds. Billed as a classic, strong-armed pocket passer, he's thrown for 2,457 yards in three years of high school.
