IMHO, you guys should scrap it. It's being either abused in a negative way, or misused because people don't ****ing understand how to differentiate an opinion thread from a news thread. There's one in club right now that has several low ratings, and it's simply a thread reporting some possible news pertinent to the team. Why? Because you don't like the news?! Because you think the news is bogus? Would you prefer to not have anyone report anything that can't be linked to a traditional news outlet? How ignorant, short-sighted - and BORING. Stupid.
How's that for not understanding how the rating system works? edit: the thanking system is abused, too. i like both of them though.
I say just scrap the ratings from two down. So you'd have a rating system of average and above average. That way people can credit a thread they really like, but can't abuse it.
Things equal out. Water finds its level and all things are right with the world. Zen brother. I appreciate your comments and suggestions and, Joe, I love you bro but I think it is better to educate than to give power to abusers. Unfortunately we don't have a way to see who rated threads as we have in the past but we will shortly. When that happens, we will go back to throwing out the high and low "scores" (so to speak) - rankings that are unfairly high or low.
Brother Joe, I think this is a case by case basis. In the thread that you mentioned, there were other factors that came in to play.
I'm a huge fan of the rating system when it is used properly; and I believe I do use it properly. I really like this idea! I wonder if it's possible. Hey Mal! Thanks, guys. Hey, while I have you here; there's a feature or hack in vb that allows for insertion of your fist name in your details that show up in your userbar; any chance we could get that? I think it could only strengthen the community.
Good idea. I will try to find out if there is a compatible hack for this version of vB. Thanks for the suggestion.
Thanks, Mal. BTW, the post thanks system is GREAT, I hope it never goes away. I miss it a lot at the one other site I frequent.
