The decision to use offset language wasn't made by Aponte.

Does anybody know for a fact who's decision it was to use the offset?

Probably the same person who did or didn't draft Pat White or might have but maybe not signed off on Columbo.

I find it bordering on crazy the assumption that Jeff has been in a position where he has had apparently no final say on anything ever for 5 years.

Thanks! It just seems like a lot of finger pointing on here.

IMO, throwing something like this into the picture could well have come from higher up, such as Stevie Ross.

Padre doesn't use "eh" in the context that Canucks use "aye" or "eh". They use it as a replacement for "huh?", or "right?", in my experience. My mom was Canadian and I used to go there every other summer as a kid. Aye or eh was often attached to the end of a sentence. Often a question or rhetorical question. Padre is leading off his sentence with "eh"

My contention is that at some point, he would conceivably walk away. For some to have as little latitude in their job and stay there is far fetched. If in fact these poor decisions are not on him, for future job availability, he should quit and write a tell all, "My life as a puppet".

Shes in charge of negotiating contract language and she was one of the staunchest supporters of having offset language in all rookie contracts during the CBA negotiations. If shes not in the one who is not pulling the strings on the offset language thing Id be stunned. Not surprised...stunned.

Except he has talent, hence him being in the league for 7+ years now. Just because you aren't a starting quality db doesn't mean you have no talent.

It'll probably end up being blamed on Ginn, LOL.

Seriously, though the FO is missing the big picture here. I said a week ago that with all the other teams caving that they should realize that it was a lost cause and that they should drop the demand before he starts missing camp. Their failure to do that hurts T-hill and the team (both in terms of football and public perception). Now it's no longer a question of if their stubbornness will be damaging, but rather a question of how much. People can keep defending the decision by saying it's not a big deal, but every day it grows and becomes a bigger deal. And it all could have/should have been avoided. I've been someone who believes that Ireland has done more good than bad, but this is a mistake. It doesn't matter whether it's the negotiating staff or whomever. When this got to the point where T-hill was going to miss camp time then Ireland needed to step in. Short of Ross coming out and publicly saying that this was his idea, this will fall on Ireland. The only question is how much longer will he allow it to go on.

It just doesn't make sense to blame Irish on this one. If jeff's career here in Miami is based off Tanny, then why does he care if Tanny gets the money or not. According to some posters on here, if Tanny fails, then the Irish is done too.
    This sounds more like Ross.

So you would have drafted him in the mid 1st round?

The GM's job is to assemble the team by acquiring and getting rid of players. That includes the signing process. In most cases the owner is not involved in any of the minor details or the contract language. There's usually a money person, presumably Aponte who deals with the details and answers to the GM. This would absolutely fall on Ireland. It may not be a smart thing for him to be doing, but it is clearly his responsibility.

NFLN just announced that Tanny agreed to terms today. So it's a moot point now.

But we all know, Ross has and will step in. No one on here knows what goes on behind close doors, if they do, their lying or guessing.

I don't know what happened specifically in this case, but as I said above, what generally happens is as I set out earlier. And I'm not guessing or lying about that. Except for the few teams like Dallas where Jones has his hands in everything, situations like this fall on the GM.

No, but plenty of players with NFL talent go after rd 1. Also, he could be a future HOF player and I still wouldn't have drafted him at 16 because at the time I liked other players more.

We all know that Jones is the most hands on owner in the league today, but Ross does have his input (see Kyle Orton). I think you understand what I'm saying.

I understand, I just don't agree that it's likely that Ross did more than ask what's going on. I don't think Ross is as involved in the football side as much as the media pretends.

I don't think Matt Flynn is a good example. I think the Dolphins hosted a visit for Flynn as a favor to him and his agent to try and lure another team into the picture.
