Wait that doesn't make sense. Are they going off when Bruce's parents were mugged then shot? How can he fake his death like that?
They are supposedly going to relaunch the series. As they feel they have sort of done most of what they could do with it, and that it has gone a bit to happy go-lucky in comic book form as of late (while the movie is going darker). I know they have Gaiman coming in to write a series that will tie the ending of the arch that is going on now and the re-vamp of the comic book. Haven't really been following it up to date (With the exception of Powers, Fables and Daredevil I have sort of moved away from my mainstream comic book following). But I am pretty sure I read about this relaunch not to loong ago.
seems like they do some of this stuff for the shock value alone. which i guess they must to boost readership from time to time... i bought the trade paperbacks to get up to speed on the Civil War in Marvel that lead up to Steve Rogers assasination as Capt. America, and within the context of the story it worked. though admittedly i have not ready anything about it since. maybe it will too with Batman, but i kind of doubt it. Bruce Wayne is just too iconic as Batman. i could care less about either of the Robin's donning the cowl. then again, the Death of Superman was well done, IMHO, though granted he didn't stay dead for long. but how do they pull that off with The Dark Knight; he is human, not endowed with any super powers, and therefore, very much able to be killed. and the article quotes them as saying Bruce Wayne's days as Batman are over. if they were going to allow Batman to be killed, doesn't it HAVE to be at the hands of the Joker to be compelling enough to carry the storyline? the whole "Thomas Wayne faked his death" scenario is too contrived, on it's face,
The claim is that Thomas Wayne was friends with the coroner, who faked the death certificate. It's claimed that Bruce Wayne is really the son of Martha Wayne and Alfred. Caveat about this story from a guy who knows more about comics than he should: the writer, Grant Morrison, enjoys writing stories that reconfigure the mythos surrounding a character or group of characters. He turned the X-Men upside down a decade ago (and set the stage for the movies as a result) and is doing the same with Batman. There's mention that Bruce Wayne may not have been Batman in the first place--that Batman is a split personality. It's comics. Bruce Wayne will be back. In fact, Morrison is writing another major storyline--Final Crisis--that takes place a short while after the Batman storyline we're talking about. In FC, Bruce Wayne is still Batman. So there you go.
This seems really cheesy, granted most of the batman comics have sucked for the past 10 years or so anyways so its not like I'm buying it either way.
Its a cheap ploy to sell books. Its a formula they use over and over when a character gets stale. I just dont know how you can justify killing Bruce Wayne. Bruce Wayne is almost as big a character as Batman himself is.
So I had to see what the hub bub was about on this, so I took my 31 yr old butt to the comic store, loser..lol and picked it up, of course I had to get a couple others to see the tie in.......and they never really show Wayne die.....so...thats that I guess.
Man, they must be really lack good writers, killing characters left and right like this. There was also a lot of talk that Wonder Woman would be killed in the JLA movie. Now all of a sudden it becomes the new formula. Woe is the comics fan.
It certainly is the new fab not just in comics but even in books. The Star Wars authors have been killing characters left and right but in there, they don't return.
