They just aren't addressing Safety. It's truly odd. I'm wondering if they are going to come over the top on an STL offer for Atogwe or have something already worked out for Sharper?
They must have SOME plan... apparently it wasn't the players available in the first few rounds of the draft. There's no way they throw out last year's starter Wilson like yesterday's garbage (who indeed played like garbage heh), without a plan at this point of who has legitimate potential to fill that critical starting spot. Could be Culver or Clemens (I like Culver), or indeed Atogwe or Sharper. Can you imagine picking up Karlos Dansby, Brandon Marshall, and Darren Sharper in the same offseason?!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Atogwe simply have to refuse to sign his tender and he'll become a FA in June?
i thought if he didnt sign his tender he had to sit out the year. but im not sure, just what i have heard around but RFA are tricky situations lol
I understand that it's just about like that... But what someone above said, we can't make any offers to him until the June date (June 1 give or take a day or two)... Don't know, on the other hand, they can do a sign and trade if they agree to a deal with Atogwe and then work out a trade with them... I like Atogwe, but I'm just not sure what direction they are going with the FS position. None of us have much confidence in Culver/Clemons, but perhaps they do ?? Sharper, who would be a great pickup if only for a year, seems to be waiting on the Saints (and his injury) to re-sign with them. I guess there will be a lot of second guessing and reading into Irelands end of the draft PC...
Reshad Jones from Georgia was just selected. Come on they should sign Sharper for one year and Reshad should back him up and learn.
are several quality veteran FS's still available or coming available before the season begins. it makes sense that the FrontOffice has something outside the draft in the making, if we are to compete for the BigEnchilada this year
Another point of reference is that St. Louis hasn't picked a safety either (through 6 rounds). So, it would seem that they don't anticipate losing Atogwe. You'd think that if they anticipated losing him, they would strongly consider picking up a safety. So far they haven't.
