the WR Stable: Marshall, Hartline, Bess, for sure then Camarillo or Grice Mullen ? finally: MarlonMoore who? Roberto or Turner? if we go w/ five who sticks? could we go w/ six wr's, then what? the practice team? what do you think? venture a guess @ what the WR Corp will look like in 2010... anyway it falls, it will be a big improvement over last year. PS: would get Marshall out of that # 19 jersey before Saturdays game....very bad karma
IMO, Grice-Mullen doesn't make it. The Moore/Wallace/Turner competition is gonna be a joy to watch in the next few weeks.
I think we'll keep 5 WR's. Marshall, Hartline, Bess, Camarillo are in. I'd need to see what the fringe guys do over the next few games before I can complete the roster. Wallace has looked good.
I think the top 4 are set and that the 5th spot is between, Wallace, Turner, Moore and RGM. I also think the idea that #19 or any other number is cursed is the most ridiculous topic on this board of late.
If Turner improves on last week's performance, he's in. Just for being a third round pick. If he and Moore turn in similar performances, maybe Moore is kept as well. Camarillo may be cut in that instance. If Moore shows enough but flies under the radar and slightly under Turner, he'll probably be stashed on the PS.
No, regarding the fifth receiver spot. The competition between Turner, Moore, Wallce and RGM. I wouldn't keep any of them.
agreed. it's getting tiresome quick. as for the topic, i say Turner stays, and Camarillos going to stay at least for one more season. RGM and Wallace are doing well and are worth looking into, but i see no reason to ditch the best hands on the team in Camarillo and Turners doing enough to merit seeing if he can keep progressing.
I've coached too many years, too many teams to underestimate the psychological impact & implication of numbers. these things take on a dynamic of their own once set into place. easy to get rid of the number not easy to reestablish a negative mind set surrounding the number
Yep. Whoever the 5th guy is will be inactive most Sundays anyway. Keep the guy with the most potential, or find a waiver wire guy from a team with some real WR's.
I never said I didn't like those types of players, please don't confuse my words. I'd rather place them on the PS than keep them on the roster.
If Marshall plays well, which frankly is more likely than not, then it will go away easily enough. Marino seemed to do just fine while wearing #13 which had universal negativity associated with it. #19 was a benign number. It only became an issue in some fan's minds b/c they didn't like one player who had a short stay here.
I've coached many years and have come to the conclusion that numbers don't mean anything in regards to play on the field. Concentration, technique, practice skills, personal problems at home etc.. have everything to do with bad psychological impact. If a player has a negative mind set because of a Jersey number that he can't even see while he is playing, than he should not be playing that sport to begin with, he has deeper issues to worry about. Back to the original post, I think the 5 spot comes down to either Moore or Turner unless say a Victor Cruz like player is released and we pick someone up.
Thank you for posting this, Marshall will turn jersey #19 into the most beloved jersey # on this team. Also from a biblical perspective, curses are the devils toyshop, have no place on these boards. I don't believe in them, therefore give the adversary no room to use them against my team.
I agree. Him and his family will give us all they have, regardless of what jersey number or gloves he may sport on gameday.
If they would last on the ps , I think we need to see them in a game(s) that is not affected by a torrential downpour and see if they have enough to offer as the 5th wideout. Saying that , if some team tries to practise squad a WR that has more potential and can contribute effectively immediately , then of course , we roster him imo. Would LOVE the 5th wideout to have serious speed/quickness and the ability to be a bonafide plus in the return game.
my last comment on nineteen: 1) once a number, color, procedure, whatever is established by popular/personal belief to be bad or have negative connotations, it can become problematic in any sport. heaven forbid, someone would touch one of Parcell's lucky elephants before game time! Dan choose the number 13 because it w/ his lucky number. most people have a little something they cling to... 2) nothing intrinsically wrong w/any number, color, whatever, in & of itself. it's the belief structure, negative anticipation, for lack of better word, the superstition that develops around a number (or whatever) that creates the problem. 3) personally, rather than waste energy & resources trying to change a mind-set that may be ridiculous but can be potentially damaging, I'd just change the number. no damage done to integrity, reputation, doesn't cost anything. at worse most would chalk it up as a peculiarity of the game, a little mystique & local color it is what it is... think about it.
our receiving corp will be outstanding this year, coupled w/ the coming of the 2nd Marino, it should be something really special. but after the prime four WR's who will stick? that is the question... who will step up?
I don't think there is a mindset for anyone but a few fans and maybe some bored reporters. So the waste of energy and resources is all the meaningless discussion about whether #19 is cursed.
I think it is a little late to acquire other receivers off waivers who are tremendously better than the ones we already have. Maybe there might be a handful that are slightly better, but would it be worth it? The one we already have are used to our offense, our QB and show alot of promise. Are you saying that in two and a half weeks we will find a wr that would be able to learn our offense, bond with our QB and surpass our current fringe players to snatch the 5th spot? Were you saying the same thing about Brian Hartline last year, that we could find someone better? Beause that seems unlikely to me IMHO. Frankly your posts are a bit ambiguous, to state the obvious and maybe people wouldn't "confuse your words" if you were a little more straightforward in the beginning.
Friend Rafael: are you sure it hasn't already become a problem? why not really be sure & change the number? whatever Iv'e posted my last words on the subject
OK, well at least they are listening to me... RGM is gone. Wallace and Moore continue to impress. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...thomas-dolphins-0819-20100818,0,4550545.story
Yes, I'm sure. This is a fan thing. Marshall probably didn't even know who Ginn was or what number he wore. And players, especially players that are top 5 at their position don't believe that they can't play well in some number.
I'm not trying to start anything here, but does anyone think that Camarillo will be on another roster by the end of this season? My thinking is if Wallace/Moore or Turner show up in(for) the remainder of pre season.Cam is gone for a draft pick or something. Just a thought.
