Ok, we report to camp in 2 days (Holy crap football is right around the corner!) and our number 1 pick has yet to sign his contract. Anyone have any info on how close the two sides are? I'd like to get it done by Saturday.
Don't think so. Saw this yesterday: http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afceast/0-9-74/Rookie-signing-woes-still-exist-for-Dolphins--Bills.html Looks like we could have some issues...
Pat White is a tough one, mainly because there's no real precedent for his situation. Should he garner what Chad Penne got last year even though he'll be used in a different way?
I think the problem with White, is that he is asking for 2nd round QB money. And tbh, i dont think Dolphins want to do that.
Don't some agents have a reputation for holding out till the end? Hopefully that's what we are seeing here. Especially for Clemons.
It is disturbing that we have this many guys unsigned so close to TC opening, I sure hope Jeff is busy these days.
Jason Allen should send Vontae a text to get it done before camp and not hold out, you know based on past experiences from someone who was the 16th overall pick who now is on one of his last chances in the league period.
Yeah i heard them talking about that on Sirius. Alex Mack's agent for instance is a guy who doesn't squeeze the team to the last minute and dollar but would rather get his guy done and in camp with a reasonable contract. Other agents then hold out for slightly more money and then subsequently use it as a barganing tool at the draft next year, saying "look at that guy, he didn't get all he could for his client, i can, you go with me and i'll get you all you deserve" Thats the agent mentality anyways they were saying.
Clay Matthews has officially sign and this should help the Dolphins get their Deal done with Davis tremendously. It is official Chris Clemons is the only fifth rounder not to have signed a deal yet. He should sign any minute now. http://www.rotoworld.com/content/Home_NFL.aspx
there has been a TON of 1st rounders to not sign. i cant remember the last time camp was this near and most 1st rounders were still unsigned. we really need to get these guys signed ASAP. nothing worse then starting off on the wrong foot.
Like some have already expressed, White could be a tough one. I guess it may depend on what he's been told his role on the team is going to be. We were all told he'll be competing at QB. If that's true then he has every right to expect a contract that reflects a QB drafted in the second round - like Henne. IMO Davis will be signed in time for the start of TC. Matthews has been signed and between now and Sat night I think a lot of the other mid - low first rd picks will get signed; Davis being one of them. I would hope that Davis fully understands missing even one TC session puts him that much more behind Smith. Maybe even Green. Clemons is a real enigma to me. What is he thinking? I'm going to guess that since he hasn't signed yet, his situation has been put on the back burner for now as the FO works to get Davis and White signed. I'm guessing once those two are tucked in they'll revisit Clemons. According to everything I've read and heard the guy has a lot of talent and promise. So I'm sure it'll get done. But if he misses very much TC can he make enough of an impression to be the 6th or even 7th DB on the depth chart?
The uncertainty of the uncapped year and possible lock out afterwards will affect the parameters of man player contracts; especially those who stand to make or lose the most money.
http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolp...phins-close-in-on-signing-their-draftees.html Just read this. Sounds like signings are close. Sorry if already posted.
