I've said it before and I'll say it again. Holmes is nothing special. This season is far from over.

We will agree to disagree. However that superbowl catch is something special in itself. Below is video and box score. Special players show up in big games

And it was "A" special catch. But it was Big Ben that threw the ball to the spot that he could catch it. Do you honestly think if Ward wasnt hurt Holmes would have been the one catching the ball in the endzone? If Holmes was the wr of the future for the Steelers Ben wouldn't have requested a wr to be drafted last yr.

Hard to work with those franchised players ahead of time. I started that Sproles thread just to stir the pot. Bottom line is, you have to tag, which hurts the players trade value because his cap number is now very high. Not that a team with a bunch of cap money (Kansas City for example) wouldn't work with you...

Here's a question for GIK... if we tag someone and a team actually is crazy (I mean smart) enough to put a free agent offer down in that first 24 hour period. The original team has an option to match or get two first rounders. If the original team matches (the contract amount is higher than the tag price right?), are they still able to trade the player at a later time? The underlying theme is that once a "free agent" is signed, you cannot release or trade him. Would that work differently for teams that have signed their franchise guys to a deal ABOVE the franchise tender? Because that is what makes working with franchise tagged players ahead of free agency via trade scenarios difficult. You can't guarantee that the f-tagged player will be around to trade after the 24 hour period is up.

Ward is a special WR but Im not sure he is athletic enough to make a grab like that.

I'm still a bit confused as to you calling Holmes "nothing special." No he hasn't been putting up twelve-hundred yards each year but he's got talent and he's a good receiver. Its not all just about that one catch or the Super Bowl itself. He's been a good player this season, week in and week out. He's caught at least two balls this season in each game and has been a downfield threat as he's averaging roughly fifteen yards per grab. He hasn't blown up the stat sheet in every game but he's been a solid player for them. He's not Calvin Johnson special but he's a good looking young player and he proved it in the Super Bowl. He stepped up at the big stage and made a name for himself. He'll continue to develop his game and continue to be a threat at the wide receiver spot IMO.

Big Ben also wanted to Keep Plax so his opinion is shot. Look at the last drive brother. It was all Holmes not just one catch. Plus look who stepped up behind him....Heath Miller. I don't wanna hear the crap about Ward being hurt becuase if he was that hurt than he would not have played, But besides that I think Holmes catches it over Ward anyway.

Look at the Stats of these two during their first three years in the league. I have One guy entering the prime of his career and Ward is on the decline. Also in the Stats is that the one game that Holmes did not play they lost and he did not even outgain Heath Miller.

The reason Ben requested a wide receiver last year was because he wanted a "tall receiver" - using Ben's words. Santonio is 5'11".

How is his opinion shot? Plax when he has his head on right is one of the best ...you know what. Fine you guys are right, We got screwed and were idiots blah, blah, blah. Every trade we have made has been terrible and we are ruining the steelers, oh and I would trade Troy for a ham sandwich and a burrito. I just cant figure out how you guys arent really running NFL teams, I mean, you guys know everything. And Lucky and I are terrible GM's who as it stands should be blacklisted and have no clue how to do anything. Did I miss anything?

E and Lucky should not be partners. Im done trying to deal with Pittsburgh. E goes out and negotiates trades and does all the hard work, then lucky steps in an vetoes.

also, lucky is pissed because he didnt get tony gonzalez, the only mexican in the league.

Plax did make that one critical TD catch in the Super Bowl for the Giants (bet the Giants and Eli Manning's butterfly throws really miss his height in real life) so Big Ben's opinion is still warranted there.

Holmes made a great catch, no doubt. But don't forget he also dropped an easy one the play before. Yea, he's got potential but ask any Holmes fantasy owner who picked him high, and they'll tell you he was a bust for most of the season and that Ward was the better WR. Holmes' production dipped, had an off-on weekly performance, and a suspension for marijuana possession isn't a good thing to have. Plus, Super Bowl MVP's aren't exactly bulletproof (see Dexter Jackson, Deion Branch). I honestly don't believe Enforcer and Lucky should be getting this kind of flak even though I personally didn't like the deal. I see the rationale behind it and it isn't a big steal for either team.

Let me clarify my point and to why I am a little aggitated. Santonio and Miller are great players. Both of them are solid. This whole thing is by "vote" so when people discredit a roster move we make like this it sticks with people. Like "if we dont have a good draft we might not even have a chance at anything," which blows my mind. I took 2 players out of a SB winning team, 2! I just dont see how adding Lendale White to a struggling power run offense and adding Drayton Florence and Micheal Griffin and all those draft picks, keeps getting over shadowed by this aspect of this one trade.

Lucky is doing fine. We are both rookies to the GM biz. Having the SB team on your first go at it is a blessing and a curse all at the same time. We could have left the team the way it was, but thats not the purpose of the GM league, right?

Agreed. As Schisno (I think it was him) pointed out earlier, sometimes you have to blow the team up just for fun and see what kind of team you can put together. It would be no fun if you just picked the Steelers and left them how they were.
