What would you like to see our team continue to do well or improve in the second half of the season? Here's what I'd like to see: less of the wildcat. that's several plays where we could be running something else. unless of course it's X and short or we haven't ran it for a few games or all game long or it's incredibly effective. i'd like to see j.allen continue getting playing time at corner or in some type of package. in the offseason i'd also like to see them stick him at corner and stop moving him back and forth between that and safety. in the denver game he had 2 tackles 1 int and 2 PDed the run game becoming more consistent.. maybe that depends on the oline or maybe on the other teams putting less pressure on brown because they have to respect ginn and g. cam or maybe we just need to find a way to run with the box stacked continued accuracy from pennington. he hasn't had many game changing plays for the other team (baltimore, maybe). if for whatever reason we can't run like we want to this is what we need. finally, more interceptions and sacks. i'd love to see porter break the sack record and I'd also like to see maybe roth/crowder/ayodele or some of the front three get some to take pressure off him. ints are also good.. either allen, culver, bell can continue doing what they're doing. edit: if we give up another 95 yard ST return i'm gonna hurl.
- ST consistency - effective running games - continue error free football (penalties, turnovers) - continue to stop the pass on D
Somebody besides, joey, fergie and randy step up on our front 7, langford had a nice game in denver, would love to see our rooks go to another level. Iam done trying to get channing to step up, i have seen his ceiling. Would love to see shawm murphy work his way into the lineup, our right guard situation is unsettling, i still have'nt recovered from the loss of our boy donald thomas, The R n R express picking up some steam. Tedd ginn as our full time special teams returner, kids gonna take a couple to the house, watch
against anyone in the AFC east to make a 7 point lead for the win. you think we'll go looking around for an ILB?
Some things I'm looking for, in no particular order: Some kind of secondary pass rush from someone not named Joey Porter. Consistency in the secondary. Andre Goodman played great last week. He has to keep it up. Minimal mental mistakes. No more dropped interceptions. No more missed tackles. More big plays from Channing Crowder. Injury free play from Chad Pennington. Injury free play from Jason Ferguson. Injury free play from everyone else. Continued growth and improvement from Ted Ginn as a Wide Receiver. Continued growth and improvement from Greg Camarillo as a Wide Receiver. Contributions in the passing game from Davone Bess and Brandon London. A special teams touchdown. Improved running game, particularly as it pertains to the interior of our line. More creativity when running the Wildcat.
Tedd ginn is becoming dynamic, his confidence is growing right before our eyes, he had a nice game against the broncos, looked explosive when he touched the ball. Him getting doubled in denver is very big for him and our offense. i gotta feelin this kid is gonna explode in the 2nd half of the season
Probably the running game. I'm extremely troubled by it. On defense, it's one of two things: We have to either have to be able to sustain a decent pass rush, or play lights out in the secondary. Up until last week, I didn't believe us to be capable of playing lights out. We apparently are. That said, if you're an optimist and thinking playoffs, all it would take is a Pennington injury to derail those dreams, and Chad hasn't exactly been known as the most healthy QB in the league.
I've always said it's going to take time for ginn to develop. i think one leads to the other odin. if a decent pass rush is present it can help the secondary play lights out because the QB isn't being given enough time to pass. also, if there is no pass rush and the secondary plays lights out anyway it gives the front seven a break. i would rather see a lights out secondary than a decent pass rush because if you have a decent pass rush but they get the pass out anayway and your secondary players get burned there goes your advantage.
I would like to see us put the wildcat to bay for the next 7 weeks. Then whip it out in week 17 against the Jets, and crush them with it. THey didn't get to see it in week 1. It would be great to trick them into thinking we're done using it, then embarrass them like we did NE and SD. I'd like to see Langford and Merling show more of the promise they showed in the first few games. Their development into all stars will be the key to making a deep playoff push either this year or the next. IMO, our offense is already good enough to win us games. If we can get our front 7 up to an elite status, we'll be able to prevent teams from taking that 3rd quarter lead we've been seeing recently. I'd like to see Ronnie get to Hawaii. Not really for the sake of Ronnie, but for the sake of the team. If Ronnie makes the Pro Bowl, then he likely had a strong showing in weeks 10-15. I'd like to see Chad Henne. Errrr, I know what you're thinking......stop the presses, gish, are you insane? Sure I'd like to see Henne, but not as a starter. I'm hoping to see Henne late in games that are decided early. We play the worst teams in the league from here on out, division games aside. Playing closer will be good for Henne. He'll get a chance to hand the ball off a few times, and maybe a pass or two. Just being out there in a winning situation will be good for him. I'd like to see Sparano continue to progress gameday coaching. His decision making was great in Denver. He's learning to focus more, and be really in tune with the 'situation' of the game. It's easy for a first year head coach to be fully absorbed in coaching the players, and neglect the clock, or miss a challenge. Sparano has his share of mini-blunders. But they are fewer and fewer as we move forward. That's something I'd like to see continue I'd like to see Channing Crowder and Vernon Carey step up to the plate and make sure there is no doubt that we want them on our team beyond this season. I'd like to see Davone Bess find his role in our offense. It seems that Camarillo has replaced Bess as the go-to guy on the quick outs, and comeback routes. Bess struggles with returns, so he needs to step it up on offense. If he idles from here on out, he likely gone next year.
1) No more injuries. 2) Penny to stay hot, but throw more TD passes. 3) No more injuries. 4) The offensive line to gel enough that the run game gets started back up. 5) No more injuries. 6) The DL to become consistent with pressure and getting teams off the field on 3rd downs. 7) No more injuries. 8) No more long returns against our K and Punt return teams. 9) No more injuries. 10) Ted Ginn to blossom and get more opportunities, and turn those opportunities into the beginning of a career worthy of his 9th overall selection. Did I mention, no more injuries ???
