I know you're joking, but I'd consider Batman Begins an origin/reboot of the Batman franchise, and not a part of the original canon of the first 4 films. The characters in BB and TDK don't exist in the same technicolor universe as Burton or Schumaker's films. Nolan's world is much more dark and realistic.

Two other points I failed to mention in my original review:

1: They nailed the design of the Batcave.
2: The soundtrack is much better this time out.

Honest question: the musical soundtrack or the audio soundtrack?

Musical Soundtrack - James Newton Howard and Hans Zimmer's score actually seems to have themes and isn't a jumble of noise. Well, except for the Joker's theme, but that's where dissonance works.

Forgot I rented two movies this weekend.

    1. 'Cocaine Cowboys' - A documentary on the Cocaine Wars in South Florida in the 70's and 80's. Great movie. Recommend it to anyone from South Florida as it describes how a few people made millions trafficking coke for the Medeijin (sp?) cartel in Columbia.

    2. 'Trade' - Pretty good movie. Kevin Kline is solid as a detective who decides to help a young mexican boy look for his 13 yr old sister after she is sold into slavery. It really highlights the sex-slave problem that is often overlooked.

A certain part of the ending kind of had me scratching my head, but still a solid overall flick.

I would rank Batman Begins above Dark Night, by a slight margin. The principle reason is that it was so refreshing relative to all other Batmans. DN, however, was superb. It was a phenomenal movie. I was on the edge of my seat the entire film. I would not put it with GF II, but I would say you are correct that it is among the top 3-5 sequel movies of all-time, perhaps #2.

If Heath Ledger does not get nominated for Oscar it would be an absolute travesty. He was fantastic as the Joker. In fact, if a person did not know who was playing the Joker it would have been almost impossible to figure it out - until perhaps one of the last couple of scenes. That's a sign of an actor who knows his craft and is truly playing a role - not himself. I kept looking for small nuances of Ledger's voice intonation (I am known to my friends as "the voice man" b/c I generally have an ear to hear any voice over and tell who it is) and it was extremely difficult.

I can't imagine a better role being played this year. It really is too bad that he has passed from this life from the standpoint of movie fans.

As a personal fan of Maggie G, I really liked her in that role. I know many liked Katie Holmes better (she is prettier) but I've always had an attraction to MG since seeing her in some other roles.

I agree, Maggie G was alot more believable than Katie Holmes. I dont think Holmes is a good actress anyways.

To me Rambo is Rambo: First Blood Part II.

Sylvester Stallone wanted to call part 4 John Rambo, but didn't want to state as he did with Rocky Balboa, that it was meant to be the final Rambo film. So he hesitated before releasing it in the theaters, and released it as Rambo. But, he has since changed it back to John Rambo. Just like Lucas changed the name of Star Wars to Episode IV: A New Hope.

The Invisible - entertaining, but nothing special IMO. It got to be very predictable towards the end.

Hellboy 2 - Completely the opposite direction of The Dark Knight. Nicely put together film, lots of eye candy. It's Del Toro, so expect some crazy visuals. 4.5/5

'Funny Games' - Quite possibly the most disturbing movie I've ever seen. Its actually a remake...from a 1997 film of the same name... with the same director. Im usually a fan of Serial Killer movies but this one takes the genre to a whole new level IMO.

    3 out of 5.

Dont expect any gratification from the ending either. Theres a very 'American Psycho' type moment that leaves you scratching your head

Its a pretty good movie, but man it is scary to think that can actually happen to people. I would have done the same thing and wound up in prison myself. Of course I would have done anything to try and get a better lawyer, and not go with the public defender.

It was OK....but lacked that 'The Grudge' fear factor I like about Japanese horror flicks...they tried though.
