Sorry this turned into this lengthy discussion, just voicing my opinion, the full team hasnt even settled yet, I give you the benefit of the doubt believe me, you've done this a few times lol
IMO there are only a handful of true RBs in this league, a lot of the other guys need help to be successfull. Then as TP pointed out sometimes you get lucky AND get both (Texans)
In all fairness, the Lions lost both their 1st & 2nd round backs, only to have Smith hop off his couch mid season and arguably outperform them, no?
And it mattered the most because for the other 3+ quarters of the game, his teammates around him on O let him down. Conversely, so did the D. The D failed when it mattered the most too. Is CHI's D bad? If Prater misses that 59 yarder, a not so unreasonable assumption, so we then point out how good Barber was and how he got lucky? I just don't think you can boil down a team game to one player and 30 seconds worth. Everything that comes before matters and has led up to that point. JMO though.
You kinda prove a point. Elite backs are nice but you find similar production through out the draft. Getting 2 is kinda redundant because if your putting close to 20 mill in 2 backs while having holes everywhere else what do you expect to accomplish?
You know.... that leaves me curious just how many great backs took a completely opposite turn, where as if they were in Foster's situation (perfect fit & perfect harmony among backs and oline) would've become 1st round fantasy picks.
Here are IMO are the RBs in the league who could basically go anywhere and succeed. Ray Rice A.P Foster McFadden McCoy Forte Steven Jackson Frank Gore I also think DeMarco Murray will be in that group real soon. More than I thought actually.
You're talking about the guy who went out and dropped AP for chump change just to go after Peyton Manning because he thought it would be fun, this is a man that thinks outside the paper maiche sphere.
I'm not sure what I think Foster & McFadden could or couldn't do behind a big drive blocking oline with the cutback minimized. Spiller seemed terrible last year; then IIRC Buffalo's zone blocking line kinda took off in 2011 and C.J (and Jackson) really thrived. Or look at Reggie Bush's ineffectiveness in NO compared to what he accomplished in Mia despite an inferior oline but with a blocking scheme that better suited his ability. I think Foster & McFad would still be solid, but I don't know if they would be as awe inspiring in a different scheme. IMO Foster has such outstanding vision & body control/reaction to what he sees, that if you stick him in an offense with pre-designed runs, it's like taking colors off Mozzart's easel....... but I could be way off base..... b/c the Mona Lisa involved little color IIRC.
This would work if were playing in the 20's Just saying that is a lot of money to throw at 1 position.
Oakland doesn't employ a zone scheme and our OL on the right side is awful. McFadden's legit, he just never plays.
I really don't think Foster is a product of a system, but they sure do go together very well. As far as N.O goes its hard to guage any rb that comes out of their...I mean shouldn't the back be getting like 5 ypc with teams in the nickel and the DE's rushing upfield the majority of the time. Oh, and 2 pro bowl Guards.
Agree on Foster, but I don't think he'd have the same height of success with an equally great mauling line as Houston's zone. My point exactly. lol. You'd think that but it wasn't the case. He comes to Miami who uses him differently with ???? at guard and he tosses up 1k yards at 5 per carry. I'm sure Bush gets some of the credit for taking it up another notch, but still.
Oops....yea forgetting a RB who lead the league in rushing with basically no passing game deserves love. Total brain fart.
I think Reggie himself deserves a lot of credit, and no question Foster isn't as good in say Cleveland...but still a very effective back IMO.
Definitely not disagreeing. Instead of 1600 yards and a bazillion TDs I'm thinking Foster could be more like an 1100 yard 8-10 TD back without a zone blocking scheme to compliment him. In Minnesota I think AP is starting. AP in Houston and Foster might be starting. but again, I could be entirely off base.
In honor of Alen... I'd just like to take a moment to pat myself on the back and remember a trade that once was back in the 2010 GML... as the GM of the Dolphins:
Why because you're too cheap to put another 2 million on forte. I'm going to Jason Brown you again, and I think we were at the 10/11 million range last time too.
damnit... they were working while I stayed on the page for me... then I go off the page and come back and they aren't working... hilarious gifs...
