The other thing, last season a bunch of us talked about dropped tds killing his stats...only fair to acknowledge gimme dropped INTs for inflating it today.

Probably, but they didn't happen. He had a bad game, forgive me if I'm not calling for artillery against him. Everybody has bad games, but I'm VERY assured he's better than what he showed today.

That's like saying "What if his receivers didn't catch one of his passes?" They weren't picks so it's a moot point.

If it is ridiculous then you are saying:

His pass to Sims in the end zone was accurate.
His pass to Stills at the 5 was accurate.
He didn't lose a fumble when in FG range.
He showed good decision-making by throwing the ball to Landry at the 10, losing yardage when they were at the 3.
He didn't miss Landry when he was wide open and the ball didn't get batted down on 3rd down.
The Redskins didn't drop several easy interceptions.
He didn't throw well short of 1st down marker.
He was accurate with his short throws leading our WRs on most plays.

Lol...what were you watching during the time all that was happening? You do realize Miami only put up 10 points on offense, don't you? Against a team that was tied for 29th at 27.4 ppg last year. The only team that scored fewer than 17 last year against them was Jax.

As for Morris, I would say he "punished" Miami's run defense. It didn't look so good by the end of the 1st quarter. Bend, but don't break. Can be sure other teams took note.

Pros: Jordan Cameron and the secondary stepping up to make plays when needed the most. Cons: Everybody/everything not named Landry, Jordan, Phillips, Wake, Grimes, Jones

No, its ridiculous to think every game will go just like this one for RT. The guy has had great games, and he has had bad games (sounds like every QB in NFL history)...today was a bad one. Where's your crystal-ball that projects that across 15 more games? 4-12 on the season if he plays the whole season like he played today? Maybe, but there's simply NO reason to think that will happen. Or do you suggest Matt Moore starts?

What Washington's D did last year matters even less than the pre-season.

    But I agree...Morris kicked their *** today.

Tannehill was in fact bad today with some of his throws. No INTS by the skin of his teeth and it will no doubt look good on his stats when people use them to argue but he was indeed bad today. It's week one, we knew Washington was going to give us everything they had in their building (might I add). I think it's safe to say that our defense won this one for us....Yeah...Alfred Morris ran all over us, but he is also one of the best backs in the game. The guy is going to be a beast all season long for them.
There is definitely plenty to complain about, but a win is a win and that is all that matters. The O line was atrocious today, but luckily we were able to still move the ball down the field. Honestly this should have been a 31 to 10 rout like some of you predicted. Unfortunately we died every time we got into good field position. Washington also dominated the time of possession 37:54 to 22:06. If that happens against New England we are looking at a 55-17 drubbing. Our red zone efficiency was terrible as well (33%), while our goal to go efficiency was average at best (50%). Honestly the only reason we won today was because Washington kept shooting themselves in the foot with penalties (11 of them), and Jarvis Landry made a hell of a play on a return for a TD.

    Positives:
Jordan Cameron- If he can stay healthy he's going to have a great year for us
Jarvis Landry- Dude is a superstar in the making, what more can I say?
Brent Grimes- made plays when he had to
Jordan Phillips, Reshad Jones, and Lamar Miller were solid today.

I guess I'm the only one that didn't think tannehill played bad. He didn't play great. But he wasn't bad at all.

i really have to question some of the thinking on this board. And I swear most of you have tunnel vision or something. Go watch other QBs play. How many "near" picks sixs every QB throws. How many bad plays, or fumbles(I wouldn't even put the fumble on him either.) some of you just seem real unreasonable or surely lack any context when judging a player.

he made some bad plays, some good plays. And overall did enough for us to win. Hard to blame him for not getting as many points on the board when the Redskins had the ball for almost 2/3s of the game.

IMO is play was a solid B

Not really, it's all about what you're evaluating. If you're evaluating a QB, you do give him some credit for dropped passes just like you dock him for dropped INT's. As an overall picture of the game played, the fact that he made those poor decisions/throws should be weighted as if they were interceptions. You have to be able to isolate the QB's performance in order to accurately analyze it and that includes controlling for poor hands by the WR's and DB's. I'm trying to get a clear picture of the game Tannehill played and the fact that he threw very catchable balls to the other team means I need to take them into account irrespective of what the DB's did with the balls themselves.

Why weigh them as if they were interceptions? That makes no sense. A bad throw is a bad throw regardless of where it landed.
"near" interceptions are for ppl that use them to help fulfill their own personal agendas and/or bias towards a player.

a near interception still lets the offence play on.
(as I'm typing flaco throws a pick 6).

17 didnt suck today. He wasnt horrible. He played below expectations, and as long as it is just today, its not an issue. He made some really good throws...and moved the team very well at times. I expect him to move team well almost all the time. If you want to make more of this one game...eh..your choice.

Incidentally, the play 17 didnt make, that pissed me off most was just after Landrys jet sweep. We are at goal line, and Washington was trying to make a up, and get a player off the field. A QB like Brady would have seen that and caught them out of position, Tanny waited and allowed the D to get set. Cant be an elite QB and miss free stuff like that, IMO.

what you're going to find with tannehill is he has a lot of dropped interceptions. IMO its because of the velocity he throws it with. Defensive backs dont have the best hands otherwise they would be receivers and making more money.

Part of the reason those near INTs weren't INTs was becuase of the velocity Ryan had on the throws. You can take chances when you're throwing that hard\fast. The D doesn't know the timing of the play so the defensive player has to make a pure reaction catch. They weren't good decisions, but QBs with good arms get away with those types of throws.

I thought the throw that got Simms hurt was horrible. All he has to do is have it come down inbounds and it's a TD, and Simms isn't hurt. The play were he missed the crossing WR on the second to last drive was also bad. He has to hit that.

I also have no problem with throwing short on third down and letting your receiver try to make a play if the other routes are covered.

It wasn't Ryan's best game by any stretch, but I don't think he was terrible either. The throw where Jordan made a diving catch was beautiful and what else can you say about Landry other than he is an absolute stud at WR...

I love it. Dropped passes by our WR'S count and are constantly harped on ..... but dropped gift INT's to cornerbacks don't. The homerism knows no bounds.

Was not Tannehill's best game, that is for sure.

His pocket presence was poor today. In the past, it felt like he simply had nowhere to go to avoid the rush because there was a jailbreak, but today.....today he wasn't paying attention to the rush at all. He's got to clean that up.

Ryan wasnt good today, but who was??

    Jarvis Landry
    Brent Grimes
    Jordan Phillips
    Jordan Cameron

Thats about it. Rishard ran one helluva route on that Td, then dropped an easy pass so he can be in the played poor today group with the other 40 some Miami Dolphins today.

And I'd add Mike Pouncey onto that list. He's not one of my favorites, but it seemed like he did well in the action I noticed, particularly in the 2nd half. How'd Douglas do, if anyone noticed?

There was a lot of terrible QB play today, including the Game that's on now (romo vs Eli.....both playing poorly)

    Tannehill wasn't nearly as bad

Why should it matter what some other QB's did? Some had bad games. Some Good. All that matters is how Tannehill played. We should expect better .... MUCH better, especially after the contract we handed over.

He didn't get paid anywhere near the top guys ($16M vs. $20-22M a year). He's getting average franchise QB money. I don't see how that factors into anything. He's had strings of very good games, and he's had stinkers mixed in there...sounds about the norm with few exceptions (Rodgers comes to mind, he's pretty automatic).

What other QBs do doesn't matter, except to show that nobody's perfect, and they ALL have bad games, RT isn't super-human and immune to it. Of course, we all want and expect better...NOBODY would disagree with that, but everybody has their off days, and this game certainly isn't a predictor of future performance. Look at Brady last year in the first few weeks...totally different story this season's game 1.

Several top 10 QBs struggled today (P. Manning, Romo - but came through in the end, Luck, Wilson somewhat, Brees, Flacco - if arguably top 10) and a few bottom/new guys played well today (Mariota, jesus...4 TDs and perfect passer rating for the Titans...in ONE HALF in his FIRST NFL game, Tyrod Taylor, Foles, Cousins even played well aside from 2 very athletic interceptions). Some in each category won, some lost. QBs aren't in a vacuum, they're all playing NFL defenses.

No, by comparison to a lot of other QBs out there this week (even some in the "elite" category) Tanny had a statistically good game. I hope he plays better next week too, but we won the game and that's all that matters now.

Those were good drives, but 1:30 no timeouts and a TD to win it??

Thats a rarity ofcourse but when some are comparing his game today with Eli and Romo's it becomes part of the equation.

What about the "we want and expect better" did you not understand? It's not a softener, it's realistic, unlike expecting Marino circa 1984.

You're right. Wanting to have seen Tannehill raise his level of play today vs a lesser quality opponent is somehow asking for Marino circa 1984.
