No, no one is defending his game. Some are just saying it wasn't a D- game and more of a C game.

I think you may need to revisit that play again. he was blown up almost immediately right up the gut by a 4 man rush.

I agree. I am a Dolphin fan first and since Tannehill is the teams QB at this time, I root for him. If they traded him tomorrow, I would root for the QB who would replace him.

I look at yesterday as a game where the lack of practice with his receivers during the preseason seemed to negatively effect the offense. Also the OL was once again an issue against a very ordinary Washington defense.

The defense basically came out as if they thought the game started an hour later than it did. They were awful against the run in the first half and were fortunate that they were playing against a below average starting QB who was missing his best WR for the majority of the game.

I always thought the game would be closer than most posters on here did. The Dolphins were a mediocre team the past two years and they basically added Suh and not much more on defense. The LB position for the Dolphins is extremely weak and will be a major issue when they go against the better QB's on their schedule.

Jones and Grimes are quality players in the secondary and McCain make a nice interception on an under thrown ball, but the secondary too will be an issue when this team goes up against a better than average QB.

I really didn't see much improvement in the offensive line play. Of course the offense wasn't on the field long enough in the game to determine if this is an improved unit or not. The fact they couldn't open a hole on two short runs for first downs against the Redskins defense has to be an issue to be concerned with. Especially since they will be facing much better defenses in the coming weeks.

Right now, I am happy they are 1-0. The game was as close as I anticipated it would be. They should be able to handle another bad team next week in the Jaqs. With all the issues the team has at this time, they are fortunate they have two of the worst teams in the entire league to begin their season. Hopefully they will be able to resolve many of these issues before they play the Bills in two weeks. Because if the same team shows up in two weeks to play the Bills which showed up yesterday, the Bills will beat them by double digits.

I expect Tannehill to play better in the coming weeks, but only time will tell.

Yeah, I think that those dropped INTs are actual INTs 8 out of 10 times, so I'm not quick to gloss over them. They were really bad throws. Tanne also made some really good throws. The line was terrible. I think an inconsistent oline is the biggest hindrance. Block good for runs on a few plays, but open no lanes on others. Let pressure through multiple times with 4 man rushes. The offense just couldn't get into a rhythm. I don't expect Tannehill to have games like this all the time, but I also don't think that we should hide behind Tannehill's rating either, as a defense of his play.

For us guys here that need Tanne to prove he's a franchise QB, all the things we are concerned about with Tanne's play were all on display yesterday, so how is it we are wearing the blinders? We are all seeing what us "anti Tanne" fans have been saying all along.

It's just 1 game, the first game, but what we saw was the same old Tanne we've been seeing, and just a few weeks ago there were a lot of people that thought he didn't even need to play the 3rd preseason game because he was already "season ready".

Lets hope he can turn it around.

Thing is, Finster, that again, the entire offense was bad. Oline was terrible. Yes, Tannehill had some bad throws, just like every QB. Like I said, if this continues throughout the season, with Tannehill missing those throws, then I'll be concerned.

Its hard for me to like any of the LBs considering the freedom they reaped with Suh getting 2x'd. Jones did play well despite losing his footing.

Youre creating a double standard without realizing it...the old goofball is rubbing off on alot of people around here.

You said because they won his subpar play was elevated to a B-...are you only elevating for Ws and not docking for L's?? Thats a double standard chief.

the way you guys are acting is like he played horrible and cost us the game or something.

he played well....all things considered. Not great by any means. but good.

If we get that 4th and 1...I beleive we go on for a TD at least a FG +3
If the line isn't eaten up and he doesn't fumble I beleive we go on to score a TD there as well or at least a FG +3

These are just two plays that killed us. That with the long drives that the defense gave up really hurt our chances on offense

But this game could have EASILY been 23-10 at worst or 31-10 at best.

HArdly something to cry home about.

oh yeah...did I mention that we got the win as well?

We can talk about "stats all we want
but 1 TD, NO ints(despite what you may want) 65% completion percentage are all PLUSES in my book.

    huh?
where was I not docking grades for L's??
go back and read what I wrote...or here I will copy it verbatim for you

"Everything is based on an individual basis. But yes if they lose the game they definitely deserve a lower grade. However some of those losses were CLEARLY on the defense so the grades would vary."

Please, tell me how I am creating a double standard....chief

Fair enough, I can agree with that, I am concerned now, but I can appreciate what your saying and given Tanne's ability to get better every year as he has, there's hope he can work through it.

I think we can all agree on hoping that the team performs better, even if we agree on nothing else :shifty:, but who knows, crazier things have happened.

Just stop saying that Tannehill played well. He. Did. Not. The offense in general was bad, with the exception of Landry and Cameron. When you score one TD, and miss two others with poor throws, you didn't play well. I know, I know, no one wants to give certain posters the satisfaction of saying that Tannehill was anything less than stellar, but that was the case. I still disagree with the stance some are taking, i.e., this game shows how bad Tannehill is. But you can admit he had a bad game, no matter the rating, without thinking that Tannehill sucks.

Was the offense not driving before the fumble?
was it Tannehills fault they couldn't convert on 3 and 1 and 4 and 1?

those were both drives that ended in scoring position that were NOT Tannehill's fault.

Those poor throws were both out of the pocket and on the run....but yeah Most qb's would nail that right?

    c'mon....be realistic here.

All things considered, he didn't play some terrible game. Of course we all want more, and he can do better for sure. But this was FAR from terrible.
    the Houston game was terrible...

So if Landry doesn't score on that punt return and Tannehill leads the team to a game winning drive there. Would you haters say he had a good game?

Should they convert on that 4th and 1 would you have said he had a good game?

There were lots of missed opportunities here. But they won a relatively close game on the road. They couldn't do that last season.

    And hey, the Dolphins covered.

I think LB is a serious issue for this team. I think they figured that by signing Suh, a dominant DL would cover up the fact they have a below average LB corp and several question marks in the secondary.

If teams are able to continue to run as effectively as the Redskins did in yesterday's game, it is going to be difficult for the DL to show any dominance in rushing the passer. Hopefully the DL will play better in the coming weeks, but I just don't see the LB corp or the secondary being anything more than average at best this season.
There just isn't a lot of talent throughout these units.

The 2016 draft is going to be a draft in which the Dolphins need to go heavy in the selection of defensive players at LB and in the secondary and hope that the young players on the offensive line play better as this year progresses so they don't have to spend a first round pick on the OL again.

Dude, I've battled for Tannehill for two years. I get called a homer more than almost anyone on here, when it comes to Tannehill. He had more than two bad throws. I expect Tannehill to make those two throws. The two balls directly into defenders hands...just dumb luck they weren't picked. Tannehill made some terrible decisions. You can't hide behind the rating and act like he played well.

I've pounded the drum all last season about receivers drops negatively impacting Tannehill...I'm not about to turn a 180 and ignore how easy picks getting dropped didn't make his rating better.

His mistakes didn't cost us the game because Juice Landry bailed the team out on that punt return for a TD. The blown Sims TD and the loss of 12 yards throwing behind the LOS from the 2 yard line. Seriously impressive stuff yesterday.

but thats the thing. every qb makes bad throws EVERY single one of them.
near interceptions mean NOTHING to me. I consider those like I consider every other bad throw, and put them in the same box.

our defense gets near interceptions all the time...but that doesn't put the offense on the field now does it?

I haven't brought up his rating but once(not in a serious way) since the game ended. I wasn't using stats to say how well or how porrly he played.
I'm judging him and the team based off of what I watched yesterday.

making a terrible decision and saying he played terrible however are TWO different things. But need to be looked at.

did he make a few bad throws(terrible decisions?) yup...I won't deny that and I'm happy we got out of that bascially unscathed.
BUT did he PLAY terrible overall?
    no he did not.

That is all I'm saying, That is my point.

I don't think anyone on here is a hater. This forum is here for individuals to express their opinions in regards to the team, the coaches, and the game. Obviously it is you who is the hater of anyone which might have an opinion which doesn't agree with you.

Yes the Dolphins won yesterday and in the end that is all that matters. Yet they have 15 more games to play and many individuals are expressing areas of concern they would like to see resolved with this team. Hopefully the team will play better in the coming weeks and eventually make the playoffs. That is what everyone wants to see.

If you are going to take the attitude that someone questioning the play of a particular player is somehow a sign that the poster hates this player, perhaps you don't get what forums like this are about. Perhaps you just need to chill out and enjoy the rest of the season.

Fine I take back the haters accusation.

I still think the narrative that Tannehill has to own the fact that the offence only scored 10 points shows absolutely no perspective on how the game unfolded.

It's like last year's Jville game where people said the Phins only one because Bortles threw 2 Pick-6's.

Look. He hit defenders in the hands on two balls. Those should have been picks. I'm sorry, I can't overlook it, simply because they *weren't* picked.

You're arguing with the wrong guy. I'm a huge fan of Tannehill, but you have to be able to admit when a player played poorly. Yes, the offense played badly. However, the game was only close because Tannehill missed two wide open throws. If Tannehill plays like this often, we are screwed. I don't think he will, but this was not a good game by him.

but the dolphins were driving in the second half, actually starting with the td at the end of the first.
that opening drive was beautiful up until the fumble

the second drive started off promising then completely fell off after a sack pushed us back and Jennings got ten when we needed 11.

the next drive was a 12 play drive that got us to the 4 yard line and resulted in a FG

the following drive was a complete disaster though, the offense and Tanny sucked.

BUT when they got the ball back they did something that we have wished for for a long time, something that isn't getting spoken about or getting enough credit.
they FINISHED the game on offense.
They got two first downs to close it out allowing Tannehill to kneel for the win.

That last drive alone to seal the game should be more than enough to remove a D- grade for him.

One was on him where he lost yardage on one play and got dinged with a Delay of game on the next. That turned into a FG.

Not being able to convert on 4th and 1 isn't on him. They would have been much better off taking the FG there.

Also give Tannehill (and the offence) and the offence credit for actually killing the clock at the end of the game. That would have come in handy against Detroit and Green Bay last year.

Not talking about 4 and 1. Talking specifically on what was 2nd or 3rd from the 2 yard line where he throws behind the LOS to take us out of great scoring position and backed us up 12 yards. That's rookie stuff.

so you are going to completely ignore the 3and1 and 4and 1 where we couldn't get a yard?
or completely ignore the Line falling apart leading to the fumble?

    wtf?
but no it was the two deep throws that tannehill wason the run for that was the game killer
