BTW...Hinrich is not traded till July 8th. NBA rules say that you cannot offer cap space that you do not have. So they would be in a little trouble if they offered another max deal.
the bulls have 29.2 million in cap room (after trading heinrich). signing james leaves them 12.6 for bosh. miami has 27.6 available, if they resign dwyane wade and cut james jones.
So Bosh would have to take a 54 million dollar pay cut under that scenario. LOL! 54 million dollars. yeah..not going to happen.
exactly. i'm not a big fan of espn because of stories like this. it's irresponsible to throw bosh in. it just makes the story bigger for today, and nobody will remember they were wrong next week. however james to chicago might be a done deal. if you follow intrade prediction markets, buying a bid that has james going to the bulls is at 67/100. miami herald article where it says miami is in "top contention" to sign bosh: http://www.miamiherald.com/2010/06/26/v-fullstory/1702872/bosh-says-heat-is-in-top-contention.html
another gm, besides the new york times / rich bucher piggy back, has bosh going to miami. he says it's been "planned for a long time:" http://basketball.realgm.com/src_wi...bosh_going_to_miami_planned_for_a_long_time/#
Bosh is all I want. Wade > LeBron. I'd be fine with LeBron, but personally, I've already lived through Dan Marino once... it was great and all, but I didn't wait 2-3 years for more individual greatness.
Not so, a team merely has to be willing to pay the Tax for exceeding the Cap. NBA's cap is of the soft variety Sect.
Doesn't matter, most of these deals are basically pre-arranged, a FA would merely have to wait for the trade to be consumated.
Whoa man, the Prudential Center, aka The Rock, is an absolutely gorgeous arena, it's easily one of the best arenas built in the country if not world wide, it's anything but a dump.
Bucher & Broussard are so full of ****. Glad to see their "sources" being EXPOSED throughout all of this craze.... http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2010/06/27/no-bosh-deal-with-bulls/
That is not so. You can only exceed the cap to sign your own players padre. to sign Free Agents that you do not have Bird Rights too, you must adhere to the HARD CAP that the NBA has agreed to. That applies to all teams.
If a Free Agent commits to a team in the July 1st to 8th period, the commitment has to be sent into the league. The dollar amount agreed to is also included. So the Bulls do not even have the 29.2 million they have cleared. They can only have commitments that can total 16.6 million dollars in that period.
S&T? I write that simply because I think I "get" how desperate the Knicks or Nets are to make a splash, in that market they are afterthoughts especially with the Football and Baseball teams doing well. The Knicks have an incredibly loyal fanbase, as in through there current terrible period they have only suffered minor erosion in Season Tix sales and they have been promising that "this" would be the year they are delivered the FA payoff, if that doesn't come through there will be a problem in NYC.
Of course.... They will soon enough, do you suppose the Elite FA's are just going to rush to sign a deal? Why? It's a seller's market, if whomever has to wait until the 8th do you really think they wouldn't for that large of a contract?
You can't either. In a S&T you are trading cap space for a player. The trades are allowed to be uneven (remember that NBA trades have to be almost dollar for dollar), but you must have the cap space available at consummation of the trade. In reality...this entire countdown to July 1st is a fraud. July 8th is the real start of the free for all.
Whoever has the cap space...has 8 days to bad mouth them and "seal" the deal with their targets. Point is...they can't "sell a package".
So, the Mavericks fantasize about getting LeBron, and ESPN automatically enters them in the sweepstakes? Further proof that ESPN is a joke.
Why would the Cavs do a sign and trade to Dallas? If Bron is going to leave Cleveland, he has to have the leverage to say "Either I sign with this team outright - or we do a sign and trade so you get something back." No way the Cavs trade him to a team that doesn't have the ability to sign him anyways.
would love to see the Nets bring someone to town. I am really hoping when they fionally move to Brooklyn they have a team that can steal all of the Knicks thunder
What thunder? This isn't exactly a Lakers/Clippers arrangement... unless you consider the Knicks to be playing the role of the Clippers.
Wade is not meeting with the Knicks with Bosh. More BS pushed out by the media. read the Herald's piece on it.
So, I am just curious from the Heat fans, lets just say, for arguments sake, that Joe Johnson and Stoudemire sign with the Knicks and LeBron and Bosh go to Chicago. Miami re-signs Wade...and does what? Would Boozer be the target at that point? Not that I see it shaking out that way, I am just curious as to what the Heat fans would like to see if it DOES shake out with the top five free agents as laid out above.
What if a meteor landed on your head in the next 2 minutes? What if I won the lottery for 200 million? What if you got sentenced to 50 years in a Turkish prison?
Have you noticed that the only teams "plans" being leaked are the Knicks and Nets? Two desparate teams who I believe are going to be virtually shut out in this process. It just smacks of teams who want to show their fan base that they tried. Not one word has come up about the Heat. No leaks, no nothing. Pat Riley has been bitten by the tampeirng bug once and it won't happen again, even though I have no doubt he's been tampering like crazy and knows exactly what the deal is.
1. I would be dead. 2. You would be rich 3. You most likely, would not be happy. My question has yet to be answered. If it shook out that way, would Miami try to keep the cap room and go after Melo next year? I would think that that would be the best move in that scenario, no?
There are trades in addition to FA. You could sign a Boozer and then try and swing a trade for CP3, or Monta Ellis and Biedrins. There are alot of scenarios, which is why having the cap sapce is a good thing even if you strike out in FA. So the Knicks and Nets shouldn't just blow their load on JJ.
They would get Boozer and Gay. But forget that... There is one of those big names that seems to be a lock to Miami.
Monta Ellis in a D'Antoni system would actually be a LOT of fun to watch. I have had the pleasure of seeing a lot of Monta over the years and I am not sure if there is a quicker guy in the league at this point. Johnson to New York makes sense considering that he has played for Mike before. I know the reports have Johnson and Amar'e meeting with the Knicks first thing on July 1st. It wouldn't surprise me if Johnson is the first shoe to drop with this free agency class. I forgot about Rudy Gay, who is vastly underrated in my opinion. He is restricted this year, correct? I almost like him better than just about anyone not named LeBron or Wade, regardless of position.
Bosh is a lock. I'd bet a lot of things on that. Like I said in the Heat thread, Miami is Bosh and Amare's first choice above all by miles. It is Miami's choice. The only way they lose out is if they dance around, which I doubt.
Chicago can certainly make enough room for James and Bosh. I dont think James himself knows where he will end up. He's going to listen to what everyone has to offer.
Really? Those guys are as good as a guy that Mike D'Antoni has described as "The best shooter I have ever seen"? Parker can shoot and defend but isnt nearly as talented. Williams is overrated and inconsistent. West and Gibson are role players. Gallo is a viable third option. I know there was little reason to watch the Knicks the last few years but really, hes much better then any of the guys you list as a shooter. Well here's the thing with the LA/NY comparison. You have one team in the LA market, NY has two in there immediate market. Granted in Cali you have teams in Anaheim and SD and SF but those are big cities in there own right and those teams stand on their own. Also the pricing of tickets in the new stadiums in NY prevent the attendance from being even higher. RE: Knicks/Lakers. You guys were rolling out a championship team and the Knicks were rolling out a last place team last year. Yet the Knicks still had the 5th best attendance. Look at attendance in the 90's and early 200's and tell me which is the best basketball market. When the Knicks are good this city goes crazy...probably because it isnt often. We expect the Yankees and Giants to be good...when the Knicks are its a treat. Go beyond the surrounding two block radius to the PC. I hope youre able to respond after you do so. Its straight hood over there. Ive been there for Devils/Islander games and the arena itself is nice but you cant walk out of that arena and go very far without a vest and a police escort. Say what you will about the Knicks but they always draw. The Nets barely had 3000 in the arena at times this year despite what the attendance records may say. I went to a handful of games for each team...The Garden was routinely full even in spite of the Knicks record. The Prudential center was so quiet at times that you could hear a pin drop. Even when the Nets were on Long Island in the old ABA, they were a blip on the KNicks radar. Even when the Nets were great in the early/mid 2000's with VC, Kidd and Jefferson the Knicks stood toe to toe with them in attendance. Agreed. And Rod Thorn stepping down (or leaving due to Prokorov depending on what you read) isnt going to help. Thorn is one of the most highly regarded people in the league. Always be wary of a good player on an awful team. Ellis' stats are a mirage due to the volume of shots he takes. Hes a decent player but I think he would struggle mightily in any kind of half court set. Biedrins is soft and his FT % is atrocious....I wouldnt want him anywhere near my team Not unless they trade Deng or some combo of James Johnson/Taj Gibson + a third player will the Bulls be able to sign two max of if there is a S&T worked out.
