Shame to see Young still out. But at least I can take Peavy off my fantasy DL.

The way the west is playing now, if they could just get a little streak going with there injuries, they could make up a few games on the D-Backs. Kevin Towers was saying if they could be with in 5 games of the D-Backs by the All Star Game, they would feel pretty good, and could make that up. Hopefully if there is someone out there who could make this team better, we make that move.:wink2:

Padres players and management are catching a lot of flack on the field, papers, and on live interviews with Sandy Alderson on the radio. It isn't New York media/fan material yet, but the flames are getting bigger and hotter right now. The fans are just frustrated that they said they would be a better contender with a new ball park and that hasn't totally come true. The excuses are getting very old. We shall see what happens. Sandy Alderson should of brought in a helmet and flack jacket for the small part of the 1 hour interview that I heard today.

I think that anger is misplaced, we are a small market team, our Pitchers (the good ones) are injured and the youngsters haven't started hitting as of yet, we have been in unknown Luxury with the Contending teams we have fielded the last 5 years.

We have been contenders but can't get far into the playoffs. Bro we can't move runners, our pitchers don't get enough run support, we have no speed on this team. Our pitchers have to pitch perfectly or at least 7 to 8 innings into the game. I believe that it is time for Trevor to retire. The management keeps saying we are going to contend but when?:wink2:

When we realize that we need speed, not "maybe-they-can be-good-power-hitters someday" type players ffic, if we look at the Twins as a model, as well as the A's, they don't develop power hitters, they find people who can get on base instead.

We haven't made that switch as of yet..:wink2:

Okay I hear you, but do we have the right players to play in Petco bro? Also I stat I heard the other day, that Padres catchers only through out 15 runners I believe it was out of 115. They were supposed to work on this in the off season. It has gotten a little better but not that much.

I don't think we have the "right" guys for petco Bro, aside from Greene, we need doubles hitters that can run and play "D", and steal a base and can lay down a bunt, otherwise our pitchers have to throw 2-1 games constantly..

Young and Peavy being injured has not been helpful, this reminds me of the Joey Hamilton Adam Eaton days, or going a bit further back the Greg Harris and Bruce Hurst and Andy Benes days...:pity:

Man this has been a real tough season to be a Padres fan I tell you. Swept by the Twins, getting our butts kicked by the Mariners.:sad:

Trevor Hoffman took his fifth loss Tuesday night after giving up back-to-back homers in the ninth, and home fans at PETCO Park showered him with boos. Jake Peavy, the game's starter, was incensed by the fans' antics. "I couldn't believe that," Peavy said. "That was as disheartening as disheartening gets." What's up with the Hoff? The future Hall of Famer has lost control of his mid-80s fastball this season. (Both of Tuesday night's jacks came off poorly-located fastballs.) If Hoffman's not placing his fastball, it doesn't matter how nasty the changeup is.

Hoffman is done. They can not play him against the same team twice, because he will get clocked if they do.

Padres could be moving Wolf, Maddox, and possibly Giles.

Latest word on the Pads is that Maddux has a no trade clause, so Scott Boras would have to wave that for Greg. Possible players that could be traded are Randy Wolf, I heard Buster on Espn suggest Khalil could be possible. Tadihto Iguchi at second could also be up for grabs when he gets healthy.

I heard on the radio today that players that may get some attention if they were brought up were outfielder Scott Hariston, and Reliever Health Bell. I think we should be sellers before the trade deadline, and prepare for 2009.:wink2:

31 year-old southpaw Randy Wolf bounced back in his start last night, pitching seven fine innings against the Marlins. Didn't hurt that the Marlins have been lousy against lefties all year.

MLB.com's Corey Brock spoke to Wolf, who said he'd consider re-signing with the Padres for the '09 season. Wolf noted that he is comfortable in San Diego and likes working with Padres pitching coach Darren Balsley. He's a West Coast guy and he left money on the table to sign with the Padres (and the Dodgers the year before). Interesting note - Wolf followed a rigorous offseason training program and says he's throwing harder than ever (he touched 95mph this year).

Wolf has a 14-team no-trade clause that includes many Midwest clubs, which could pose a problem for the Cardinals. A return to the Phillies still might make sense. The Yankees could also consider him. Wolf could always accept a trade but still re-sign with San Diego after the season

Tony Clark is available to playoff contenders looking for a veteran pinch hitter. Pitcher Greg Maddux, who has full no-trade power, has let the Padres know he likely would not accept a trade unless it is to another West Coast club.

The Padres expect that Wolf and Maddux will attract trade inquiries leading up to the July 31 deadline to deal a player without exposing him to waivers. The Padres, who have a franchise-record payroll and recently guaranteed $4.8 million in the international amateur market, stand to save a seven-figure sum by moving either pitcher.

Clark could be gone.

I would actually welcome Maddux back to the Dodgers if for no other reason than he is a big game pitcher and I see him being a tremendous influence on Chad Billigsley who is already doing very well.

The problem is, I would not want to give up anything of value to the Padres.

Wolf burned us badly last year so he can sit on it and rotate for all I care and the Dodgers have enough non power hitting outfielders who are younger and healthier than Giles so I wouldn't want him either...

I wonder if the Padres would deal MAddux to the Dodgers for say, a low level catching prospect?

I wish the Braves would try to get Maddux back. If anything it would provide a spark that team so desperately needs.
