For what it's worth, I played Alex in game 2 and he beat the **** out of me. He was very classy when he did it. There was 2 times in the game where I was between his 40 and 35 and he held me to for a 4th and I went for it because I cant kick for crap in Madden. I didn't feel he was cheap or a dirty player at all.

That being said, he analy violated me and didn't use lube. Next year alex, next year!

Nah I know you weren't. Just explaining the situation, and why I didn't finish it. I sent him a PM to clear the air a bit. I'd like to play him again, just waiting for a reply.

 

Considering you scored in the 20's against me this season that would be a serious downgrade I'd take!

 

Hey it's not my fault your QB pooped on my 50 yard line before the game. Also those "cheerleaders" were actually members of a biker gang, we were there to intimidate you.

Whats wrong with dumping the bal to our RB? if thats cheating then I cheat alot. IMO if you dont like it stop it. I hate to sound kind of jerkish but there are zone Ds designed to stop you from using screen plays and safe routes. Its part of the game.

 

While I agree, I have to say that I didn't even dump it off to my HB. I ran one play, everything else was covered so I did throw it to my back, who had run a curl route. However that isn't glitchy. He blitzed and the middle of the field was open. Had he been in man, or zone, it wouldnt have been open.

I can see where the going for it in some situations can be edgy, but I didnt understand the play calling issue.

 

agreed 100%. alot of teams throw to running backs. i do a ton. ive had games where deangelo williams had 150+ yards receiving. cover 2 severely hinges throwing to the running back...i suggest people having trouble against it, use those zone defenses.

 

Sorry guys, my boss had a new born and has been out all week. So that has made my week living hell at work as I try to cover for him as well as my work.

Guys, none of this should be a real issue.....this is Madden NFL.....while its close, its not 100% the real thing (mainly cause some feel they blow at kicking FGs)....should you go for it on 4th and long vs. attempt FG or punt, etc??....well, thats a personal call.

Its not about rubbing it in....heck if you stopped them for 3 downs...stop them for 1 more and you get the ball. Same with a decision to go for it on 4th and short vs. take the points....its a personal decision. If you get stopped, its no points at all.

The bottomline is there should never be an intent to cheat, or equally run up the score, everything else goes for real NFL football decisions. (If I recall, vs. NYJ 1st game two seasons ago with Favre, didnt the kicker for Jets get injured, and they were forced to go for a couple of long 4th down plays vs. Phins? It happens. While its not apples to apples, I know if a coach feels a FG try isnt worth the try, they will make the next best call...either coffin corner punt, or go for the 1st. Thats how it works.

As far as passings to the flats, or anywhere else, the settiment is right on the money...use a D that contains or prevents that O play. All O plays can be beaten by the correct D call....and each D call can be beaten by the correct O call ~ especially in Madden....and especially vs. a Human that knows that. Thats what makes it legit like NFL. Swings and screens can be stopped, and they can go for long distance YACs.....your job is to learn how to run them on O, and more importantly how to stop them on D. That said, I agree with SICK that we should all know that punting more often than not on a long 4th down (if out of FG range) is the NFL thing to do. Of course you could run a fake.

Playing vs. Human is definately one of the hardest things to do in Madden. Its nothing like playing vs. CPU, even at All-Madden level. I know this much....if I play someone, and they havent figured out how to stop a play, I will continue to run it (Rush or Pass play). Its not my fault, its football. Think of the counter-trey Redskins superbowl with an unknown RB Smith and all those yards. And the minute you do start to stop it...I am off to another play, cause I know you know how to stop it.

I personally havent ever been disconnected from a game (or experienced a horrible lag)...and I hope I never will.....hopefully these connection issues get resolved (if its wireless signal strength, try wired, or boost your wireless signal - lots of free ways on the Internet to do that). But really, I personally never feel a deficit is too far to come back from (all relevant to clock). Or a lead is too big to give up (sometimes regardless of clock). That said, I hope its the honor system of the person who gets disconnected feeling based on time and score if a game should or should not count. Hopefully, if this happens, the two folks talk to each other before the decision is made to continue vs. CPU.....or cancel out and start over.

This league is only as fun as the communication level....for scheduling games, and for resolving disputes for disconnected games. What happens in a game as far as play calling on O and D side is called competition...its the fun part whether vs. CPU or Human. Play the game and enjoy it, and most importantly work to get better at your Madden Skill....we arent experts, but executing a play in Madden is just as fun as watching it from the sidelines or TV box on a given Sunday for our Phins....you are in control, its fun to get better at the game.

I remember playing Alex when he was Houston, and for the entire game, he made Andre Johnson run a route that I couldn't stop. Or at least i thought I couldn't. Eventually, I did.
You just have to learn how to adjust and know what defense to use. Don't complain because what he is doing works.

 

Didn't mean to start such a **** storm, but we're here, so here I go.

In this particular sense:

While I question the fact that a guy who is a favorite to contend for the league championship can't hit a field goal outside of 40 yards I have only the information that I have at hand to make a judgement.

That information was that it was obvious (as well as stated via PM) that I was having severe lag issues and was thus essentially a dead in the water team who had to sit by and watch Alex attempt to convert every 4th down that he encountered. One on my Goal line, one within his 40, and one within my 40.

I'd have approached the situation differently. Your biggest plays were created because my guys were diving aimlessly around in the open field due to lag. I have no problem getting my teeth kicked in during a game (actually expected to this week) but I'm not going to sit by with absolutely no chance for recourse and watch you string together 4 plays drive after 4 play drive when you know full well I'm not in a position to stop it.

I also re-read my post, and it did sound like I was accusing you of dumping off to the HB repeatedly..which you were not. That tidbit was intended to draw a correlation between abusers of money plays when playing online. I couldn't argue with the plays you called, only your scenario calls. I see going for it on 4th downs in unrealistic situations the same as I see people who abuse money plays.

In the general sense:

I'm not asking for hyper-realism (it's a video game) but I am looking for common sense. I play madden to read coverages and offenses, not to mash buttons. If I wanted 3 yards and a cloud of dirt and 4 possession downs, again I'd get Madden Arcade. Going for it on 4th and a few within your own 40 is a cheese ball move that wouldn't be replicated IRL except under the most dire of circumstances. It's right up there with people abusing glitches in MW2 in my book. It might be fun to jack up your kills by exploiting the game but it renders the game unplayable to the people on the other side. If your idea of competition is abusing a programming flaw then that's your thing.

There's a fine line between a good call and rampant abuse in play calling (again not taking issue with his play calling, only his situational calling). In real football you could give specific players with more intelligence orders on how to attack certain scenarios. Yes the game has plays at your disposal but in the end all but one of the defensive players is controlled by a computer program which has glitches. Michael Turner and AP for instance have an uncanny ability to break 4+ tackles on the way to a 70 yard score off a screen. People know this and plug and plug it to the point where it's good for 1+ score per game whether you have guys in place or not. You can have your men in position with the right call and still lose out for cheap scores solely because of the Random generator calculating tackles.

That player didn't outsmart his opponent, he took advantage of a system that heavily tilts in these 2 RB's favors. The term money play was invented for this very reason. It's unreasonable to think you can shut this play down with just good play calling.

Again, I was under the impression that we were in a gentleman's league and that we'd play in a manner that it was at least psuedo realistic to real life. If that's not the case let me know and I'll adjust my play accordingly. But up to this point I punt when i should punt and kick when I should kick.

 

And again I will point out that I was experiencing horrendous lag. I got hit every time I threw the ball, and was helpless to make a tackle. He knew of this and continued to go for it on 4th downs.

This wasn't a question of his play calling (money plays) it was an issue with the fact that he knew I was playing handicapped and still went for it on 4th and unrealistic situations.

 

If faced with a lag I would have requested a reschedule as well.....and sounds like Alex is in agreement....so bottomline, get it reschedule and play without lag, and hopefully without disconnection issues.

Well like I said, given the circumstances of the 4th downs, field position, crappy kicker, it was that or punt and gain minimal field position. If it had been on my side of the field, or even the 45 on your side, I wouldn't have went for it obviously. Heck even the 40. But the 35-36 yard line is kind of a strange place to be in.

And the fourth and goal...it was so close, I'd go for that 20 times out of 20. I didnt even think about it.

I guess in retrospect, if I was thinking about your lag issues I wouldnt have went for it. But then the game becomes meaningless, because neither of us can play how we want to.

 

Guys, just drop it, and reschedule it as soon as possible....

Alex better target a FG Kicker in the 1st round...son, a 45 yd FG should be slam dunk...practice, practice, practice.

 

His kick power is like 86

I'm actually a really good kicker. Full bar every time against the computer and 90% of the time against humans because of the lag factor.

The thing is with his kick power, a 45 yarder has to be absolutely perfect, no wind, and its still barely sneaking over.

Thanks for the kind words bro. It was a good game to the finish, can't beat that! That int where my wr jumbled the ball and your guy grabbed it still irks me lol(near my 20). Man, how does that happen lol, that things caught 99% of the time lol. And how do you keep throwing when I have three rushing defenders so close that they are twisting your qb's nipples lol...you need to pm me how you do that so well haha. Soooo many times I thought I had you for a sack.

Had fun though. We each went for it on 4th, and I don't blame ither of us. Good situations to do so.
