It's going to be tough for us to do that now, yesterday was our best chance.

And I am getting a little nervous about our 1st round opponent unless it's the Habs or Panthers because the Pens, Canes and Rangers are all playing very well going into the playoffs.

Refs are wearing devils colors today.

The flyers are the most penalized team in the league yet have the most shorthanded goals, and have 5 players with 25 goals or more.

I wish the refs would call some against the other team sometimes :tantrum:

I still think the Penguins are not equipped for a lengthy playoff run unless Fleury gets really hot. Their defense is abysmal. If you can get your matchups and slow down Malkin and Crosby you can kill them if your team has some depth.

I want the Habs in round 1...badly. I want to put them out of their misery to end the season. Happy 100th Anniversary Habs fans!

I want them just as bad, they are laying down for everyone and would go down in a sweep against the Devils, nice way to start off the postseason.

I didn't watch the game on Sunday, but I was shocked to see the final score. Simply put, I gave us no chance to win the game, especially after that abysmal effort against the Kings a few days earlier.

that's fine. i'm up for a rematch of last year. no point in backing down.

    edit:

i think the flyers can get to the finals again... i also can very easily see them getting bumped real quickly.

their goaltending is wishy washy as hell sometimes on fire sometimes about as cold as ice. but they're a physical enough team to aide their goaltenders and the big thing is the short handed goals (most in league while defending most penalties in the league: last i heard it was 72 more minutes against than it was for) and their depth at scoring gives them a chance.

    bring'em on.

I hear that, it's looking like we are going to have to take on the Rangers in the 1st round, there are not going to be many easy foes come these playoffs.

But still want no part of the Pens.

I think there six teams, maybe seven, that can make it to the finals from the east, it is that nasty of a conference this year.

There are a lot of teams I would much rather not face but if it's your teams year to go than they'll get thru them.

I'm concerned about the ovechkins and the crosbys for sure; but to get to the playoffs and get deep in them you've got to go through what you've got to go through.

the devils are always a team that have given me fits as a fan as well. freakin' marty b needs to retire already  and i know he's not going to for years

The Pens are scary although I think they can be had because of their defense. You just HAVE to stay out of the penalty box because that power play is ridiculous. If Fluery gets hot though...

The Rangers are playing better and Lundy can steal games but their defense is mediocre and Avery WILL do something stupid to wake another team up. They also have scoring issues.

The Panthers remind me of the Rangers. Vokoun can beat you but their defense does not do much for me and they can have issues scoring.

The Habs are done. The only fear I have from them is they might wake up for the Bruins because of the rivalry. If they played the Devils or the Caps in round 1 I could see it being an ugly sweep.

The 'Canes are, well, I dunno because I have not watched a single second of 'Cane hockey this year, I know nothing about them.

The Flyers can score and their top pairing on defense is great and they can play a lot of different styles. Biron is the key. If he plays like has had for the last month they are in good shape.

The Habitals errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Caps are what they are, a high tempo offensive team that takes a ton of chances. That style will not work in the playoffs and Theodore has the look of a guy that can go in the tank at any moment. IF they dive all over the place like soccer players (like they frequently do) they can beat you because of their power play.

The Devils terrify me plain and simple.

My Bruins? I don't know really. It all depends on what happens over the last few weeks. If they can take something from the win over the Devils last week and play like they did for the first 3 months then I think they will be alright. They need to get Manny Fernandez some starts over the last 9 games though, a tired Tim Thomas is a bad Tim Thomas.

The flyers lost that game as much as the bruins won it.

If you guys don't have a chimpanzee in the net (a chimp in the good sense, in the sense that he's all over the place all the time and making every conceivable ****ing save possible known to mankind - any other goalie and a few of those would have gone in) and the flyers actually clear the ****ing zone a few times when they're supposed to (been a problem ALL YEAR LONG) then i think we have a better chance...

great goaltending on your bruins part tho.

and yeah, great goal by mr. former FLYER himself.

    and screw the brewins.

You have to love what Looch brings to the table when he's playing well. The dude has great hands and more often than not when he has an opportunity to score, he finishes.

Edwards is an idiot, but I really do enjoy what Brickley brings to the booth as the color guy.

I agree on Edwards, he is one of the worst play by play guys in hockey. I'm a little spoiled living in Vancouver though. I grew up listening to Jim Robson (Hall of Famer). When he retired Jim Hughson took over (he's with HNIC now as the #1 PBP voice) and when Hughson left the radio side John Shorthouse took over as the radio voice and does the Canucks on TV now and he is very good.

I have always liked Brick. I'll always remember how much of a tease he was as a player. Dude would play a few games, put up great numbers and then get hurt, it happened every year.

5-0 after 1 period. 1 fight won, 1 fight lost.

the leafs are a terrible team but they absolutely destroyed the flyers the other day in every aspect so it's nice to see the guys come out and put a serious *** whoopin on the leafs. they changed their goalie 10 minutes in and it didn't do a damn thing for them

You gotta love Timmy.. and I would suspect its not fun getting punched in the face by the guy with his blocker still on..

I loved it love it loved it. Avery is a moron. 5 minutes left in a 1-0 game with his team teetering on the brink and he pulls off that? He was trying to get payback from the Stars Bruins game earlier in the year (the one where him and Steve Ott were running around like idiots) but payback for what? Him and Ott were the ones that dragged the game into the sewer to begin with. I'm still trying to figure that out to be honest...

...oh....and Steve Ott WILL get his next year. When the Stars and Bruins play next year I am going to do ANYTHING to watch that game on TV. Looch is going to knock Ott out...book it.

Timmy is a different animal. I'm not too crazy about the contract extension they gave him (the length was a little too much IMO) but locking him up was a good move by Chia.

As much as I'm looking towards the playoffs with much excitement (and a bit of fear) the off season is going to be VERY interesting with the RFA's we have coming. Chia has some fancy footwork to do with the cap. I think either Sturm or Kobasew or both will be gone if Chia can find a taker.

Giving a 34 year old goaltender a 4-year contract seems like a ridiculous move on the surface. But he doesn't have a ton of miles on that body and he's perhaps one of the most likable athletes in the city of Boston. You want to see the guy succeed, especially when considering his road to professional hockey. He was never handed a thing...

My only concern, and let me know your thoughts, is that his cap figure and presence on the roster might hinder the development of Rask? If Tukka is as good as advertised, I don't want him playing behind Timmy for extended stretches for the next 4 years.

From what I saw of the contract, Timmy's cap number goes down quite a bit in year 4. the other things is Timmy has never (and should never) been a guy who will make 70 starts. The ideal situation is Timmy plays 50 and his back up plays 32. If Manny had not gotten hurt this year he was on pace for 35 starts.

Tuukka will be the backup next year, there is NO doubt about it. They are protecting themselves in case he flops. Timmy also signed the contract at an age where he can be bought out eventually. I read that if he was 35 then the B's would not have been able to buy him out.

Timmy is also friends with Tuukka (Tim has a great track record of having excellent working relationships with the other goaltender), he'll be a fantastic mentor for Tuukka.

Even with Rask up and if he hits all his bonuses and Timmy's cap number I think it still has them under 7 million combined for their goaltending which is workable. If Tuukka takes the job away in a year then they can flip Thomas or buy him out.

Having watched Tim Thomas enough times the past two years I can say he is our generation Johnny Bower, and if you think you have yourself a goalie who can get you the Stanley Cup at a time your team is primed for the run in the next 2-3 years you go for it prospects be damned.

So who was able to catch the Bruins - Canadiens game last night? Just another typical game in this rivalry...

    A couple of thoughts:

The Bergeron goal in the 1st period to put the Bruins up 1-0 was beautiful... but what a friggen cheap shot from behind by Gorges after the play was done.

Komisarek and O'Byrne are a couple of pansies. At the end of the 1st period, Komisarek was in the corner abusing a 160 pound Krejci, and when Chara came over and threw a couple of punches, Komisarek wanted none of it. Hey, I don't blame him... the guy had been embarassed in the building earlier in the year by Lucic (also, I didn't have much of a problem with Komisarek's hit on Lucic from behind, but Milan certainly lost his cool after being put on his back). Now O'Byrne is just a freakin' punk. I was hoping he would get his last night for that cheap shot on Kobasew last time these teams hooked up, but when Thornton got his hands on him during a tussle, the guy falls down to both knees and ducks for cover behind the refs.

This was an extremely entertaining game, so naturally I want to see a first round playoff matchup between these two. I love beating the Habs.

I only saw highlights (damn you NHL for killing all my free online feeds). Bergy was VERY involved in every highlight I saw. The OT winner where he hit Lapierre, stole the puck and made a beautiful pass to Recchi (how smart does that trade look right now?) was outstanding.

If Bergy is playing to the level he was at before the Jones hit then we are in VERY good shape.

What did you expect from the Habs? LOL! Mike Komisarek is in the same category as Steve Ott, Sean Avery and Matt Cooke. He's a *****. He NEVER answers the bell when the time comes and he is DIRTY.

No worries though. We are playing out the string and the Habs NEEDED that game and we still beat them. It looks like we'll get them in round 1....which to be honest has been my worst fear because the "rivalry" might wake them up. I still think we take them out in 6 games.

The playoffs are in the air. I love it. the best part is in Canada we get every playoff game, from every series in HD....WOOH!!!!!!

flyers are sucking down the stretch and lose a game when home ice advantage is on the line. that is seriously poor.

they head to the igloo sometime this week to face the crosbys and the malkins. i think the flyers handled them pretty well the last time they played them.. and i haven't watched many games down the stretch here but from what i'm hearing the flyers are blowing leads big time.. which is not good at this point and time in the season because that switch just can't be turned on.

i know they have to keep those two wrapped up somehow.. and it seems to me that if the flyers can put up points to help their defense and goalie then they should be okay..

i'm very concerned the way the guys are playing because if you can't win games where the stakes are high (see, home ice advantage, etc) you can't expect to just go into the playoffs and play well. I am admittedly nervous (and have been) at their play and the only thing separating them from other teams IMO is the fact that they have so many guys that can score on you that it's hard to tell who to cover... they have a few young guys who will be good in a couple years but they still need a #1 goaltender...

yikes... so thoughts on who i should be on the lookout for in pitt besides the obvious? (ie. crosby, malkin are obvious and there was hossa but he's been in detroit for the past year.. so who's the dark horse player?)

A hat trick for the B's at the season-end awards! And yet, I still feel unsatisfied. God, I hate Scott Walker. He hasn't achieved Ulf Samuelsson/Thurman Thomas level villain status, but he's probably passed Ken O'Brien and is in Chipper Jones territory.
