The Bruins powerplay struggles can be summed up with the following statistic against Florida last night:

    Per-Johan Axelsson: T.O.I. PP - 4:26
    Phil Kessel: T.O.I. PP - :16

Claude Julien's man love for Axe is no longer love, it is lust and it is killing the team. The powerplay last night was BRUTAL. Axe has no business being on the powerplay, let alone playing 4:10 more then the teams leading goal scorer.

Tomas Voukon was outstanding last night. I don't want to play them in the first round if they make the playoffs. Voukon could steal a series.

The B's still have a 9 point lead in the East and a 19 point lead in the division. The division race is over, they will be a top 3 seed. That said, they are not a very good team right now. Mike Ryder is sorely missed.

I think Chiarelli will be looking for a deal. They need a forward who can play the left side. Kieth Tkachuk and Eric Cole are in the discussion. It's all abut what they give up. They have some depth to deal from on the farm. Whether they go for broke or not is the question. Trading Manny Fernandez could come into play. I have read in multiple places that the Av's are looking at Manny but they are last in the West right now. I REALLY hope they get hot in the next week to drag themselves back into playoff contention. Getting Marek Svatos or Jordan Leopold would be just what the doctor ordered.

Uni, I'm officially worried. Did they peak too early?? It sure looks like it.

The PP is just pathetic. They're not getting quality looks. Earlier this season, they were working the passing lanes down low, but it seems that all those options have disappeared. Its ugly to watch.

The young guys (I'm looking at you Kessel, Wheeler and Krejci) that played such a big part in the ridiculous months of November and December have been basically non-existent during this 7 game stretch. And the goaltending could be an issue as we move towards the playoffs. Manny was freakin' terrible last night and at times, he was really fighting the puck.

There's no excuse to get swept out of Florida. I understand the Panthers are much improved and play a good defensive system, but you have to take points out of that Tampa game.

At this point, I don't know if they can hold off Washington for home-ice throughout. If they don't take the #1 seed into the playoffs after having such a huge lead, they're done.

I HOPE it's a blip on the radar. Everyone is playing bad (with a few exceptions) all at once. You don't get to 40 wins in January and not be a good team. This IS a good team.

I think Wheeler hit the rookie wall. He's never played this much hockey in his life, he needs to find a second wind. Kess is getting chances just not putting them away. I'd be more concerned if he was getting no chances. Krejci is Krejci, he's not getting his numbers bvut he is still doing all the little things pretty well for the most part. He'll find his offensive game...when Ryder returns.

Ryder is SO important and it took him getting hurt to find it out.

Lucic is the one I am most pissed at. He better be hurt. He is not hitting anyone. This team feeds off that emotion. If he is not going to hit anyone he is useless in my opinion. I think they should sit him down until he is right.

They need someone who can play the left side so everyone gets moved down a notch. Axe is VERY miscast right now. He should be killing penalties and playing 4th line minutes.

Manny was AWFUL in Tampa. They needed a good goaltending performance and he gave them nothing. If Chia can trade him I'd do it right now. TT is the #1 heading into the playoffs. Let Tuukka come up and play 8-10 of the remaining games before the playoffs. Thomas HAS to be rested going in or they are dead and right now I'll trust Rask a lot more than Manny.

That's a great point on Lucic. The physical aspect of his game has been basically non-existent. I didn't notice it while watching this recent stretch of games, but once you pointed it out, I can't think of an instance where he's been physical for consecutive shifts. Its tough to not root for Lucic. He seems like a really great kid but he better get it figured out, and quickly.

As much as it pains me to say, I can't shake this growing suspicion that these are the same old Bruins and they'll fold up like a cheap suit in the EC Quarterfinals.

They better come out flying tomorrow night to kick off a 6-game homestand.

Also, I don't know if you caught the game last night, but the delay of game rule needs to be revisited by the league. That call on Ference late in the 3rd was absolute horse****. He was not under pressure and the puck was clearly on edge. It was an unfortunate situation, but things like that tend to snowball when you're struggling.

Isles traded Comrie and Campoli to Ottawa for a 1st round pick. Too bad its SJ's 1st rounder that Ottowa had obtained but its still a nice haul for an underachieving C and a D who lets players Camp-out.

10 picks in this years draft, 5 in the first two rounds. Do your thing Garth; Tavares or Hedman + some high upside players.

The Ottawa Senators have acquired Chris Campoli from the New York Islanders as part of a three-player trade.
Ottawa has long been looking for an offensive defenseman, and they're hoping they've found their man in Campoli. Campoli had a great rookie debut in 2005-06, scoring nine goals and 34 points in 80 games, but he suffered significant injuries in each of the following two seasons. He's managed to bounce back from his injury woes this season and he could end up with 25-35 points. He'll earn just $675,000 next season and he could be part of Ottawa's long-term future.

They played well tonight. Milan Lucic actually showed up and they were strong in their own end of the rink. Great to see Mike Ryder back.

They are not out of the woods yet. The PP can be better and Phil Kessel NEEDS to have one go in off his *** to get some confidence.

They get Anaheim Thursday and then they play a BIG game against the Capihabs on Saturday.

Byron Bitz played out of his mind yesterday. That tip late in the 2nd period to give the Bruins a two goal lead was a thing of beauty...

Good to see them bury more than a few opportunities.

Krejci's numbers will start coming back now that Ryder is back. Since Ryder's injury Krejci has been playing all over the place without a true shooter on his line.

I did not get to watch it because the NHL managed to kill ALL my online feeds....*****.

I did get to watch a replay of the entire episode. Looch went hard to the net and while he is standing there he got crosschecked, then punched and then Mike Brown went after him. Brown had his gloves off before Looch, grabbed Milan and while he was grabbing him the hand he grabbed him with hit him in the face and before they could square off he landed a good punch to Lucic's face.

Brown tripped and fell after that and the "code" says that is it but Lucic did not appreciate the borderline cheap shot so he proceeded to punch him multiple times while Brown was on the ice.

The crappy thing is it looks like Lucic dinged up his hand again. He did not practice today. Neither did Marc Savard or Blake Wheeler. The B's radio broadcast said Savard got a "stinger" in the 2nd period.

If we are missing Savard, Looch and Wheels against the Habitals on Saturday we're dead.

Ughhh @ the game winner on Timmy in Boston today in overtime.

Jose Theodore was VERY good today. He simply robbed Patrice Bergeron on one chance. the B's had their chances and it was a pretty decent game overall. Both goalies played very well...with the exception of the game winning goal.

The flyers actually had more power plays go for them than penalty kills they were fighting against when they played the habs the other day yet failing to clear the zone and turning pucks over (turning over pucks is not flyers hockey!?!?!!) and some ridiculous goals gave the habs the win after the flyers started with 2 quick goals in the first. :tantrum:

big game against those bastardly devils tomorrow at 1pm. go flyers will be checking in with thoughts during intermission.

Speculation is rampant here that Bill guerin is being dealt and has agreed to waive his NTC. He was a scratch last night even though hes fine, and depending on which blog you look on you can find a variety of rumors though none have been confirmed. The only thing I have found to be consistent is that its likely an eastern conference team.

Im going to guess this one is accurate though as Chris Botta is the Islanders former PR head for the last 20 years and writes this blog. Hes still very well connected and has been dead on about just about everything all year: http://www.islanderspointblank.com/

"As of 10:00 tonight, I believe the team the Islanders have an arrangement with is Washington. A simple, two-team, pick-and-prospect trade. Simple, except for closing the darn thing."

Even after reading that you may want to click on the link for the cute ice girl.

Also, one has to believe Doug Weight and/or Brendan Witt may be next. Though i hope Witt stays cause hes a warrior and the kids coming through the system will benefit greatly from his presence. :hi5:

THey are def. looking back on track. They have one of the most well rounded teams out there, including backup goalie depth (flames fans know how worriesome this can be)

Besides the caps who are a wildcard who can go on a tear at any given moment, the only other team who might challenge the Bruins in the East playoffs would have to be the devils.

They are like the devil's teams of old but now they can score. That would worry me if i was a boston fan. Either way should be a great east playoff bracket this year.

Oh and Congrats to Jarome Iginla for breaking the all time Flames Scoring record in the at ugly loss against the bolts. Also for netting his 400th goal in a 5 point night. With all the injuries it's good to have you back Iggy.

The Bruins lost to another playoff caliber opponent? Nothing to see here, move along.

Here's the deal... unless Kessel, Krejci, Wheeler and Lucic start to step up and bury some opportunities while rounding into their previous form back in November/December, this team will not be able to compete with the elite teams in the East (Capitals and Devils).

The EC Champ will be from Boston, NJ or DC, but unfortunately.. I trust the Bruins the least out of that group. I won't say they're the same old Bruins because I can't see them getting bounced in the 1st round again, but I would have zero confidence in a matchup with the Devils or Caps.

Also, its time to move Manny. The guy has been atrocious in net lately, so get when you can for him and roll down into the stretch with a combo of Timmy and Rask.

I don't understand why Chiarelli is not looking to get anything for Manny. I'd take a bag of pucks. He won't be the #1 in the playoffs and he is a UFA that will not be resigning. Flip him for anything, call up Rask and let him steal a few games and rest Timmy because resting Timmy is the key to the post season. I want Timmy to rest NOW and then play a lot in the last 2 weeks, we need him rolling late.

I dunno what this team is anymore. I'm really hoping that they are relaxing a little because of their big lead.

I don't fear Washington in the playoffs to be honest. Their defense is leaky and Jose Theodore can turn into a sieve at any moment. The Devils are another issue. they are the best team in the East, I don't care what the standings say.

It's trade deadline day and I am off so this is good stuff. I don't know if the Bruins will do a thing. I'd love to see them add a left shooting forward so PJ Axe can get shoved down the lineup and off the PP.

Trade Update: The Blue Jackets just traded Pascal LeClaire and a 2nd rounder from the Sens for Antoine Vermette. Good gamble for Bryan Murray. LeClaire can play and Vermette is overrated IMO. Will LeClaire return to form or will he be Marc Denis?

This team has been driving me crazy lately. They got physically punished last night.. Chara and Kobasew were the only guys on the team throwing their body around (how about that little exchange from Chara to Hartnell after the whistle?? Man, I LOVE what Chara bring to this team) and sticking up for teammates. I can't count the number of times that Byron Bitz got knocked flat on his ***.

This team doesn't even resemble the group that built this huge lead in the Northeast/Eastern Conference. Stupid decisions with the puck in their own end hurt them again last night. During that incredible run of November, you never saw Savard commit a turnover like the one that led to the Upshall goal in the 2nd.

Also Uni, the Caps don't scare you? Man that PP unit they roll out is freightening... makes a 2:00 minor feel like a 5:00 major. It also doesn't help that the Bruins amounted what essentially was a 1-3 record against them.

The Caps don't scare me because I think they have 1st round upset written all over them. Yes, they can score but they can also give up goals in bunches...not a good thing in playoff hockey.

The Flames just got Olli Jokinen from the Coyotes for Matt Lombardi, a prospect and a 1st round pick. They need to move someone now to clear cap room to fit Olli in.

That move could start a domino effect with the Western conference teams. The Flames added Jokinen as well as Jordan Leopold today so far and we could see some of the Western teams try to keep up with the Jones'. It would not surprise me to see the Sharks try and make one big move like adding Jay Bo out of Florida.

The Bruins just traded Petteri Nokelainen to the Ducks for Steve Montador. Exactly what the Bruins needed and they got him for cheap. Montador is a rugged bottom end of the of the top 6 Dman. He's 6' and 211 LBS and is not afraid to stick his nose into things. This COULD lead to something else, perhaps some help up front. Montador will slide in as the #5 and adds depth.

I hate giving up Nokie because I really like him but they have a few guys in the system that are basically the same type of player (Sobotka, Marchand).

I wouldn't be torn up over that to be honest, depending what they could get in return. Something seems to be missing from Kessel's game that could make him an elite winger. He's got elite skating ability for sure, but.. I just don't know.

Nope, Savvy has one more year left on his contract. He's a goner after next season though. The cap crunch will be too much to fit him in. That is the reason why I don't want to see Bergeron dealt under any circumstance.

We deal Bergy and Savvy walks as a free agent the next thing you know all we have at center is David Krejci and some prospects.

The Recchi deal is sweet. Yes he is old and yes he is not a top 6 forward anymore but he is the left handed shot that can be plugged into the powerplay, taking PJ Axe off the PP. He'll play 4th line minutes 5 on 5 but he'll play 4:00 a night on the PP.

Good move, I still don't know what they gave up. Probably a conditional late round pick.

They got Racchi and a 2010 2nd rounder (which should be a high pick) for Martin Karsums and Matt Lashoff.

Karsums is one of those AAAA guys. Too good for the AHL but not quite good enough for the NHL. He'll get a chance in Tampa though and I hope he does well. Lashoff is a good young D-man but he does not have a spot on this hockey club. He has all the tools but his head is not where it needs to be.

Both Lashoff and Karsums will play a lot in Tampa right now and Recchi gives the Bruins exactly what they need, a left handed shot who can play on the powerplay and knows how to win, adding veteran presence to the locker room.

Winner today, Boston but long term Tampa wins the deal by a wide margin...IMO.

That's fine who was in the eastern conference championship games last year? certainly wasn't boston. The flyers are a younger team and are only going to continue to get better. After seeing your goaltender play he kicks the pucks out a lot and there are tons of rebounds. The two goals scored on nitty were PP goals if I remember correctly and one was a damn fine one timer that no goalie had a chance to stop. Nitty absolutely robbed some schmuk with his glove hand in the first period and the flyers stomped you guys last night and we won the series, 2-1.

I'm not scared, even if your other goalie plays.

BTW, I think the bruins strength is their passing game and their intensity on both killing and taking advantage of power plays. nice job, seriously. some very, very crisp long ice passes. (ya know, except that one that was intercepted and punched home :shifty: ) and they were always always buzzing on the PP and even on the PK (I really with the flyers PP hasn't gone soft like it has as i'm sure that's got part to do with it and them basically not respecting it.. which I can understand).

    A couple of points:

You saw Manny Fernandez in net last night. Simply put, you won't be seeing him come playoff time.

Also, that "schmuk" you are referring to would be David Krejci. No need to post garbage like that in this thread.

The Bruins might well get bounced from the playoffs by the Caps or Devils, but it certainly won't be coming at the hand of the Flyers. Quite honestly, I'm looking forward to ending Philly's season come April.
