That would make "the plan" a bit tenous.

If J O'Neal led the Eastern Conference in rebounding ala JP in sacks, then you'd have a better point, and even then, they signed JT and Wake "just to be sure".

Oh it will, unless the cap pennies the Heat have been saving up are carried forward.

Assuming he signed a long term deal that is, he could sign a shorter contract and retest the market once the economy recovers (granted, it may or may not recover).

"the plan", no matter the organization, is mythical Sect, no matter the sport, unless a organization can make the players they have play better, improvement via acquisition is sort of like unicorns and leprachauns, plenty said about them, they rarely show up.

i think you are arguing for the sake of arguing.

We can add players....that is fine..go get a Iverson or Boozer for expirings.....but you start trading away young players from our nucleus for a 1 year rent a player in Amare or Bosh without signing them right away...that is SUICIDE.

trading Beasley would be desperate..and every indication is that it would cost beasley to improve the team drastically like that.

we wait a year...we get those guys for FREE. (well..for about 100 million..but it isn;t OUR money anyway).

Wade isn't going anywhere. he isn't stupid.

Actually I'm not "arguing for the sake of.." I have a pecuilar distaste for "the plan" arrangements, to me the fans are being rooked and the FO is underperforming.

I would not trade anyone from the nucleus, that is not how winning teams are built, what Riley needs to do IMO is use his 30+ years in the NBA and find an undervalued player (be it Iverson or G Hill or whomever) and watch that player outperform their last couple of seasons or fill their role perfectly.

Grant Hill doesn't fit here. too many SF's.

That is what he did by Taking Mario Chalmers in the second round.

finding Haslem as a off the street FA...

Signing James Jones to a below market long term deal.

    Finding Daquan Cook.

Filling out the bottom of the roster with contributors in Jamario Moon, Jamal Magliore and Diawara, Joel Anthony...etc..

what do you think he has been doing?

He is currently negotiating with Iverson.

I don't know what you are expecting. this team won 15 games and was the worst team in the league. IN ONE YEAR..he rebuilt the team into the playoffs...and a team that held the 5th seed wire to wire. So they played with pressure to hold it..so they earned it.

Now it is year TWO in the rebuild..he promised that in year Three we will be a championship contender. The "PLAN" is working.

Yes... but those 14 statements were made before the East teams went out and added a ton of talent. The Cavs got better. The Magic got better. The Celtics got better. The Raptors got better.

The Heat right now, best case scenario, is that they get the 5th seed... and most likely are 1 and done in the playoffs next year.

Wade is seeing this, and is not happy. He wants to win... and this current team isnt winning anything any time soon.

I wouldnt disagree with that at all. Wade is clearly not happy with the current make up of this team... or he wouldnt be making the statement like he did.

I'm sorry Sec... but I dont see James Jones or Cook as a "shell of our next championship team". I could maybe buy Chalmers, assuming he continues to develop and gets better than a bull fighter on defense. And Haslem is a nice player and could be part of that... but I'm not sure he will even be on this team. Regardless, I cant see Haslem starting in the future, with Beasley here... and/or maybe a guy like Bosh or Amare.

Why didnt you list Beasley as part of the "shell of our next championship team"? Hes better than every one of those players you listed? Or do you think we are going to trade him?

Because Beasley is not part of the Shell. he is part of the Nucleus.

But james Jones and Daquan Cook will BE rotation players in our next championship team. They are part of the Shell of our next championship team. Those that say that we have been doing nothing are just not paying attention. This team has turned itself over at every position except 2 in the last 2 years. it has done a GREAT job of rebuilding.

be patient or get off the bandwagon.

    You misunderstood what I said.

and Wade ALONG with all the statements he has made has said that he wants to stay here. There are your 14 statements. The media won;t report that of course.

Even discussing the possiblity that Wade will leave is ******ed.

I said this "current" team isnt competing for anything any time soon. As in, this current roster is not going to compete for anything.

You may consider 2010 pretty soon... but I can assure you Wade doesnt. He has no interest in wasting another year while we sit on our hands and wait for 2010... nor should he be.

He wants to contend right now. How long as it been since we've even made it out of the 1st round of the playoffs? 4 years?

All the other teams in the East are making moves to contend right now... and we havent. Thats why Wade is making these comments, even though in the past he has said he wants to stay in Miami. Hes now looking around at his team, and realizes it isnt going to do anything again this year... and will probably do worse due to the increased level of competition in the East.

quotes from d-wade in today's herald:

    on 2010:

''Just because there are a lot of free agents doesn't mean we're going to get one,'' Wade said. ``It doesn't mean in 2010 we're going to automatically get one of the big names. There are risks involved. With other teams getting better, we don't know what's going to happen, positive or negative. If we can be proactive and get someone now, then let's get proactive.''

    on beasley at the 3:

``I don't want to question his ability, but he will have to work his tail off if he wants to do it. He can score at any position. But it's defense. You've got guys at the [small forward] position that are super quick. Beasley is slow-footed.''

    http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/basketball/story/1131785.html

also, i think the heat has the option for jones' contract in 2010. imo, we decline and let him become a free agent.

Ugh... that is not what I wanna hear... :pity:

And to follow up with that...
When your best player and your VP of Player Development dont think he can play the 3... I'd believe them.

Trade Haslem right now. Get a 3 or a 5 for him... and put Beasley at the 4. I love Haslem... but I'd love a starter at the 3 or the 5 more than him as a backup at the 4...

I dont know how the contract stuff would work out... but would we be able to trade Haslem for Gortat? Orlando could use a player like Haslem at the 4... and Miami could definitely use a player like Gortat at the 5.

thing is, i agree with wade and zo on this one. i don't think beasley will be effective at the three and we saw him last year at the four.

if he really wanted to, beasley could be effective at the three.

my guess though is that beasley rather get high and watch spongebob than "work his tail off."

if we sign a.i., i might consider trading beasley/haslem/filler for bosh this year (assuming bosh agrees to the extension).

Hmm...that may have been a misread FN, Wade is out in public speaking meaning Beasley is not that good in Wade's opinion.

Salary Cap supposedly is down to 50 to 53 milly in 2010, and that is the optimistic view. all of the penny pinching and "the plan" may not work out the way people thought it would..

Who could see that one coming...

Then he can go enjoy himself in Houston, New York, Sacramento or Chicago...take 30 million less...start over and enjoy a nice lottery season.

    what can I tell you.

you guys could care less about winning long term...all you can see is 6 inches in front of your face.

Seriously..where do you guys get this ****?

kinda puts a crimp in your doom and gloom scenario. Now Wade CAN'T leave. LOL.

anyway...the luxury threshold will still be at 61 million....MORE THAN ENOUGH.

In fact...if the cap does go down to 54 ..it will INSURE that Cleveland AND Orlando will FIRESALE talent and give a nice leg up to the Heat. LOL

By my count...in that season..it will put Orlando about 10 mill over and put them around 30 million in debt for the first year in the new arena. Forget Cleveland..it will bankrupt them.

Lakers if forced to pay a luxury tax will operate in the red for the first time in years....Boston is okay.......with their geriatric roster.

I HOPE this is true. it only hurts those that spent like crazy this year...and would make Riley look even smarter

Thank god you guys don't run this team. That is all I am saying.

BTW...clarification from the CBA will NOT ALLOW a 5 year extension at the max for FA's for the 2010 season.....Lebron, Wade, Bosh, etc....

a 3 year extension is all that is NOW allowed.

So Wade and Lebron will sign identical deals next summer for 6 years.

According to John Hollinger we're #1 in terms of cap space in 2010, baby!

We need Wade to extend his contract, though, so we'll have his $17 million cap figure for the 2010-2011 season. Otherwise, if he opts out and signs a new deal, his cap figure is going to jump up by $5-6 million on next year's cap. He's going to have to make a sacrifice. We'll have enough money to sign Bosh or Amare to the max regardless, but I read from Hollinger that if Wade does this and we sign another player to a deal starting at $15 million per season, we'll still have a REMAINING $8-9 million to spend. That's scary, folks. Tyson Chandler money. Josh Howard / Joe Johnson money. Maybe use that money to re-sign Haslem and/or J.O. without going into the tax.

The problem with Wade extending NOW HD is that the CBA really punishes him for doing so.

it would mean 2 less years and 60 million less than if he waited 12 months.

Utah's counter offer of Haslem, Wright, and Daequan Cook for Boozer and C.J. Miles is now being seriously considered.

Take my source for what it's worth, but it's the same source that included Moon / Banks in the J.O. / Marion trade before the media.

And yes he works for the Sun Sentinel. :wink2:

BTW - I am almost sure this deal is going to go down. Riles is going to drag it along as far as possible to try and keep Cook... until another team i.e. Chicago steps up and makes an enticing offer, which they've yet to do. Dwyane Wade wants Boozer. Not only is Boozer a beast down low offensively, but he's also a very close friend of Wade. We can get Boozer without parting with Michael Beasley or Mario Chalmers. That alone is bank. Why the hell wouldn't you do it? Daequan Cook cannot be a deal breaker for Carlos Boozer, IMO. That would piss me off... probably Dwyane Wade as well.

I also think that keeping J.O. is also important in any deal we do that doesn't include a starting caliber center. Not only do I believe in J.O. in his final chance at a contract year, but he's a huge trade chip.

    G - Chalmers / Beverly / Quinn (Iverson?)
    G - Wade / Miles
    F - Beasley / Jones / Moon
    F - Boozer / Beasley
    C - O'Neal / Magloire / Anthony

This line up contends now. Wade extends now.

On second thought, I think I start James Jones over Beasley.

Bench is looking kind of thin, and JJ's defense and shooting fits in perfectly with that line up. Beasley would still get 30-35 MPG.

Not Ira Winderman. Most of these "insiders" have their own "insiders"... Ira is a regular person with no insight at all. The guy I know feeds Ira his information. And whenever he has nothing, you know what he reports? Rumors from the RealGM forums. I honestly have no idea how he's lucky enough to have the major voice he has as a Miami Heat beat writer. Micky Arison hates him. Pat Riley hates him. Dwyane Wade hates him. Alonzo Mourning CANNOT STAND him. So on and so forth.

And as for his "edge" I'm going to guess it's because he was recently put in his place, in person, by Dwyane Wade himself. He completely told him off because Ira wouldn't stop harassing him at a restaurant.

Bosh has openly stated that he doesn't want to play center full time although he'll play the position situational, i.e. Dwyane Wade's stance as a PG / SG. I doubt we'd be able to keep Boozer and sign Bosh, though. I don't like that fit, honestly. Gotta get a defensive presence in there next to either of the two.

My dream for next summer is Bosh or Amare (or Boozer IF he's rented and it works out well, I personally do not like Carlos Boozer but I'd gladly take him for what's being reported) along with a Tyson Chandler.

You have to love Pat Riley, though. Whenever something big like this is rumored for quite a bit and eventually goes down do you guys ever hear any type of major competition going on? Pat Riley is always in the drivers seat. I love it.

There isn't another interesting team mentioned in any of the articles that have the contracts (without giving up too much) to make this happen without a willing third party. We're the ONLY team that can get this done.

Exciting idea to even speak on though... I love our position.

Getting Boozer is so ideal for this team right now. We get ourselves a proven 20/10+ guy to keep Wade happy for the upcoming season, and not only that, but he's a free agent next summer so it's our choice whether or not we want it to effect our cap flexibility for the "big plan"

i'm a big tyson chandler fan and wish riles was looking more into trading for him than boozer. also, i wanted chandler instead of oneal before that trade too.

for what it's worth, trading cook would shed more salary for 2010. not that cook makes that much, but we'd have more money to spend.
