    LOL.

You actually counted their appearance with SHAQ in 2004? Why not their appearance in 1968 with Elgin Baylor?

Since Gasol got there they have been good and have the 2 finals appearances.

before Gasol Kobe was one and done for 3 straight years.

They traded for bryant? SO? Riley drafted Wade. it was a draft day trade because Kobe refused to go to Charlotte.

Hmm...if I answer correctly can I be the new Heat GM?

    :wink2:

Seriously FN, getting worked up over game by game stuff in the NBA is a bit of a waste of time imho, wait until the trade deadline nears and let's see what happens.

I suspect Tornto would like someone significant for Bosh, ditto Phoenix for Amare' S and it is easier to sign players you already have on the roster than to sign a FA in the NBA.

They seem to make a habit of making smart trades.

And 3 finals in 6 season is nothing to sneeze at, it should be a goal for the Heat.

Impossible to know how a 19 year old's (when drafted) game is going to translate with your superstar.

How? How can you not see his skill set, and see if that is the skill set you need at the PF position in your offense?

One of them doesn't count in your comparison. You are talking about this current Lakers incarnation.

That team had exactly TWO current Laker players and one of them went elsewhere for 4 years (Fisher).

They seem to make a habit of making smart trades?

Like Trading Caron Butler (3 time NBA Allstar) for mega Bust Kwame Brown?

Check their record in that regard. They have a ton of blown trades with Kupchack. Laker fans wanted him gone 2 years ago.

They got lucky with a giveaway trade. (Gasol)

The Lakers when breaking down their franchise in the Shaq trade, then took 3 FULL Seasons to become contenders again.

The Heat is in YEAR TWO after breaking down the team to rebuild.

By my watch, the Heat will be faster than the Lakers where to championship contender status.

Go ahead....say it.. Riley is a genius.

You don't know till your superstar gets on the court with him.

Beasley's best fit is in Phoenix.

he can LEAD THE LEAGUE in scoring there.

    He can't here IMO.

    Wade needs a P&R player.

But how did we not know that Wade needs a P&R player? How do we know that now, but didnt 2 years ago?

And how did we not look at Beasley on tape and in workouts, and see that he isnt a P&R type player?

Too much Zone defense in College.

The P&R is almost exclusive to the NBA.

wow this thread blew up over night. i guess i'll throw in three things i saw last night:

1)i know his ego is huge, but even wade has to be tired of running iso after iso to close games. he does it for nearly half the fourth quarter, and always in the face of traps at the half court line. this arcane offense needs to die. it's almost wannsted-ian. somewhere ricky is cringing.

    2) irc, the lineup of anthony, haslem, beasley, wright, and wade played well together during the middle of fourth. i thought they might close the game, but spo never deviates from his set rotations. i like that lineup a lot, especially if you're going to have wade take over the PG duties.
3)if riley makes a trade for bosh, i wouldn't mind seeing beasley go, if it meant throwing in james jones and dequan cook. that would come close to bosh's salary and provide more salary purge for next year. for amare, the trade makes no sense for both teams. the heat gets back another 6'9" defensively challenged pf, while phoenix gets a "bad p&r player" to go with nash.

for what it's worth, i went on 82games.com and the best 5 for the heat is

    Arroyo-Wade-Richardson-Beasley-O'Neal with a +/- of +50.

I would not trade Beasley for Amare.

There isn't a single team in the league in better cap position than Miami this upcoming summer. That is fact. New Jersey is close, but they have no Dwyane Wade to offer as a sidekick. Fact is, if LeBron signs with a team not named the Miami Heat, he'll sign alone. Well, maybe along with a mid level guy or so... but no Wade, Bosh, Amare, Joe Johnson, Gay, Boozer, etc. That's the consequence you pay as LeBron James signing elsewhere or re-upping with Cleveland; you leave Miami with the opportunity to retain Wade + add another star or two, thus becoming the clear cut favorite over your team.

LBJ's only true chance to become a part of a dynasty is signing with Miami. If he wants to build an individual legacy more than building a championship legacy ALONG WITH an individual legacy, hey, it's totally up to him.

BTW - Chris Bosh is not a trade option as of right now. Come July, he could very well be via sign-and-trade, which would definitely involve Beasley. As of right now, however, there are merely three interesting trade options: Amare Stoudemire, Caron Butler, and Devin Harris... Harris being the guy who his team isn't particularly TRYING to move with everything its got. I highly doubt we jump on any of those, but if we do, it'll probably be Amare. I don't see Miami being able to land Amare or Harris without Beasley, but believe it or not, I could see Washington moving Caron Butler for as little as cap relief going forward as they will likely blow it up and rebuild again. This core's peak at full strength and without Arenas is an 8th seeded doormat (Washington).

I think we stand pat, though. Pat Riley obviously knows something that he's NOT ALLOWED to know, because I'll tell you one thing... we've passed on quite a few deals in our favor the past few years with the fear of not having cap space in 2010. I don't think you do that for a "chance" -- way too risky. Then again, that is what Pat Riley is. His eyes are always on THE prize. I don't think he believes in baby steps. It's all or nothing. He's a risk taker by all means, but he ALWAYS has several backup plans so this is why I am not worried and I won't be worried if LeBron, Bosh, AND Amare all stay put or sign elsewhere come July. Riley will get something done, and even with his back against the wall he'll still rape a GM in the process.

While I'd love to believe that Riley has some secret knowledge that LeBron is interested, etc., I find that hard to believe when over the summer he offered the full mid-level to Lamar Odom, which I believe would have shut the door on adding a max player next to Wade in 2010.

He might have turned down other deals, but probably because they weren't good enough to give up "the chance". But for LO, who both eh and Wade really liked, they were willing to give it up.

    No.

The Mid Level EXEMPTION is called that for a reason.

it has no bearing and Had no bearing whatsoever on the cap space reserved for a 2010 Max contract to play next to Wade.

The heat will have the most cap space in the NBA this offseason.

They will be able to ADD MORE than just a Max Contract to play with Wade.

My understanding is that the mid-level is a cap exception for teams over the cap. Even if we got under the cap next year, Odom's salary still would count against the cap. You'd be adding 6 million or so in salary beyond whatw as already committed to Beas/Chalmers/Cook/Jones, but also the cap holds on Wade/Haslem, etc.

    But I could be wrong

    No.

The Mid Level exemption is granted to every team as a slot to be able to go over the salary cap or to sign a player or several (if you split it among several players).

6 million in salary has no bearing and had no bearing whatsoever on our cap space for 2010.

retaining our own Free Agents have no bearing whatsoever on our cap as well. You are allowed to go over the cap to retain your own. (Bird Rule)

Every player with at least 3 years of service with your team is elidgble for the Bird Rule.

Haslem and Wade fall into the Bird rule.

The Heat is the ONLY team capable of retaining Wade, signing a MAX and then adding a "Junior" Max as well.

Adding Lamar Odom last offseason would have been a drop in the bucket. it would have only hurt our cap with players 10 through 12 on the roster. (In that case, you use draft picks to fill the bottom of your roster instead of FA's.)

Dorell Wright should start the rest of the season and next season if we don't land a Joe Johnson or Caron Butler one way or another.

He's just by far the best and most completely small forward on this team.

We are officially the 8th seed in the East, LMFAO!!!!!! That is pathetic.

This team is horrible to watch in all seriousness. I feel bad for the people who will be forced to watch this basketball team in postseason play (barring trade). It's not even fair to the viewers.

Wade chucks all game, Beasley is out, why even show up and play? Forfeit!

Don't know how but last year's team was a lot better. And it's not just Wade.

Only changes: Beasley progressed; Chalmers regressed. No major difference. Makes no sense. The teams around us DID NOT GET BETTER aside from MAYBE Toronto.

I still stand by this. I'm sick and tired of watching Q clog up minutes to go 1/8 or whatever he goes. I'm a fan of Q-Rich, but he is not a starter in this league. We have a much better and more complete player on the bench. Spo, GET IT? It's simple. Everyone else sees it aside from that ***** face Ira Winderman and his hate-hate relationship with Dorell.

Murderous week ahead. just hope to break even.

we must survive this month and end it at least 1 or 2 games over .500. then we make our run to the 5th seed.

James Jones is being shopped to everybody and I was told that The Cavs were interested, but we want an expiring and that is going to make it hard.

We will win by 20-30 tonight then lose by 20-30 the next game.

    It's routine.

EDIT: Nevermind. We play Boston next (after tonight). We ALWAYS outplay the hell out of Boston and blow it at the end. Close or at least semi-close loss.

I only want the 5th seed if Orlando falls to 4th, and I doubt that happens.

Give me the 7th seed as I see Orlando finishing 2nd.

Cleveland or Boston in round one is a nightmare. Atlanta is close to it. We matchup well with Orlando.

Charlotte is much better this year.

With Chalmers out for about three weeks, I'd like to see us tinker with the lineup. Wade-Q-Wright could cause matchup problems for opposing teams, especially since Q has that ability to post up small two-guards.

Against Chicago later this week, we should definitely see that look, as I'd expect Wade to be defended by Hinrich leaving Rose to guard Q. When we play Cleveland, I'd like to see that look as well with Parker guarding Wade and Gibson vulnerable to the post.

If we beat Boston and Cleveland we will definitely drop at least 2 straight right after. AT LEAST.

This team cannot establish rhythm; they have no idea what a 'hot streak' is.

In fact... what's our longest winning streak this year, the 3-0 or 4-0 start? Whatever it was.

That's scary. I think our best 10-game record since that start is 6-4.

    Beasley was horrific tonight.

In one stretch of 2 minutes, he:

Turned it over on a pass.

Then allowed a layup on a backdoor play.

he then turned it over again.

Tipped a rebound out of Haslem's hands and caused Boston to retain posession.

    He then fouled Perkins.

    Missed a point blank layup.

    Got pulled for Anthony.
