Is to crazy to think Whiteside is already our best player based off his short time here?

This guy is no Jeremy Lin. He's no fluke. He's the real deal.

He has a no trade clause. He also has said numerous times throughout the offseason that A) Hes accepted Phils timeline for the rebuild and B) He doesnt want to be elsewhere and that he wants to see the Knicks through to a chip.

The Knicks are also in great shape cap wise (for a change) with no real long term commitments besides he, Kyle O Quinn (low cap hit) and Robin Lopez (who in my opinion will be traded before the end of the year for a better player...Phil Jackson did not sign in NY for Robin Lopez...sorry, theres just no convincing me of that).

Lastly, and this may sting, Im just not sure the Heat could offer anything other then Winslow a crap ton of draft picks and some expirings that would interest Phil. But more realistically, Phil knows in this league you win with stars and the Heat have NONE at this point that are on Melo's level. Wade WAS a great player and hes still a very good player (i.e. Top 20...top 5 in a one game, have to win game where hes fully healthy) but certainly trading him for Melo wouldnt be the move yall were trying to make even in a hypothetical situation. Bosh has a worse contract that Melo for a player not nearly as good imo. Cant see a way it happens.

Thats your opinion....I dont know a single non Heat fan who would agree. And I am a big believe in building with bigs but neither is Melo's league right now. Bosh is maybe a top 30 player...Whiteside still has to work to get in the 50 for me. Melo is somewhere between 8 and 12 on most lists.

I just asked a group of friends around me, none of them are Heat fans and they all preferred the Heat players I mentioned.

One said he doesn't play defense and none of his teams have ever done anything. Plus he checked out last season. They all agreed. While true, it's harsh, but I think he could take us to another level. The Knicks aren't gonna do much this year imo but we'll see.

Then your friends know nothing about basketball. Melo played hurt last year when no one else would play with a partially torn patella tendon. That's the reality of it. Find friends that have the slightest clue about basketball

I sincerely doubt that. Sorry. There's not a person alive that could convince me that you'd want either of those over Melo.

Are we talking about Bosh AND Whiteside vs. Melo? I think there are a lot of people that would prefer BOTH of those two rather than Melo. Straight up for EITHER of them? Probably not.

Not both. My understanding is he would take either Whiteside or Bosh over Melo.

Personally I'd take melo even over both. Elite scorer and top 10 or so overall player >>>>>

Now to actual basketball and not fantasy, great win for the Heat tonight. Justise Winslow has been so damn impressive so far this year. His stat lines haven't been anything spectacular, but for what the Heat are asking him to do he has got me very excited. I'm trying not to overreact, but I'm not sure how many wing defenders I would take over him right now. He seems to be gaining some confidence offensively, and if that ever develops, yikes. It's too bad that put-back dunk rimmed out because that would have been a top play.

It was also nice to see Whiteside get it going tonight. I wasn't really worried with his previous performances, and if he can look like he looked tonight, the Heat are going to be a very tough team to beat. Their balance right now is what is really fun to watch. Their getting big performances in spurts from lots of different players. That speaks to their depth. I also have to eat some crow on Tyler Johnson. I wrote him off this offseason and he looks like he can be a viable backup PG.

I'm saying I'd rather have either Bosh or Whiteside over Melo. I wouldn't trade either for Melo.

Bosh averages enough PPG, RPG and plays better defense.

Whiteside is one of the best centers in the game and is a defensive menace. Plus he's got a lot more time left than Melo.

While Melo does average over 20 PPG and does rebound well enough and averages more assists than either, he is a big liability defensively.

I know it sounds extremely biased but that's honestly how I feel. I think I'm basing my assertions on objective evidence.

I know this is really a baseball topic (and Boik is probably not thrilled right now and I don't want to pile on to his frustration), but it's relevant here. There are MANY empty seats at Citi Field right now after the Royals opened up the lead in extra innings. But only Miami Heat fans leave early during Championship games, right? I actually remember Pablo Torre saying that would never happen in NY (although it did on the Monday Night Miracle). And the funny thing is, there's a clock in basketball. I would guess the odds of a comeback here are far higher than Miami against SA was.

Doubtful on the comeback part....I agree on the rest. However a lot of those seats in Taxpayer errr I mean Citi Field are corporate owned especially in the lower bowls. I would never leave. As a matter of fact seeing them celebrate on my field makes me wish I had a carton of eggs and toilet paper to throw at them lol.

I think some of that has to do with Whiteside being a black hole on offense. Once the ball is down low, his propensity is to make sure the ball can't leave his event horizon (take a shot). He needs to pass more often when the D converges onto him, especially if it's to Bosh or Deng open for 3. He'll see less double teams that way as well and make his job waaay easier.

ESPN has Carmelo ranked 27th. Bosh is 22nd. Where are these most lists you speak of, your mind? inb4 ESPN sucks and doesn't know what they're talking about. Boik, you vastly overrate Carmelo.

EDIT: Here's Melo at 57, in his natural state as being a lower ranked player than Bosh (48).

Why would we want carmelo when we have winslow. Winslow's defense is already lightyears ahead of Carmelo. No thanks, enjoy absorbing that fat contract.

That's just with a quick Google search.
Carmelo at 15, Bosh at 22.
    http://www.si.com/nba/top-100-nba-players-2016

And in regards to your articles...BSPN does suck and the real gm (lol @ you even using this) one is based on salary.

What's really funny is how disrespected Carmelo is by his haters. He is the best scorer in the game (you can flip a coin with him and KD) and he's never had a single top 25 player along side him. Even Lebron and Kobe and Shaq...the 3 best of the post MJ era needed other stars to win.

I wouldn't be in favor of bringing Melo in. I think he's over-rated and his contract is an albatross. That's often the case with scorers (overpaid and over-rated by fans). I just don't see him as a guy who does enough to help his team win. His game just isn't complete. I believe he has the skills to be a complete player and he'll flash it sporadically, but he's not consistent enough at anything but scoring. If at some point down the line he's looking for a last shot at a championship, I could see him being great as the 6th man who comes in and gives you that scoring punch off the bench. At this point, his deficiencies off-set much of his scoring and his salary limits your team further.

Steph Curry is fantastic player and he deserves a place in the conversation but talking about the best scorer in the league doesnt mean talking about the leading scorer or the best 3 point bomber (both of which Curry could lay claim to). I probably should have said "most complete scorer in the league" because what I meant is a player that score from anywhere on the floor and play in any type of system or style of play. Its Melo and KD. They can play low post, high post, 3 pointers, power game (or bully ball as Melo calls it) and both have impeccable mid range games. Better?

On a different note, this dude does spot on impersonations and its funny as hell...

It actually is as clear cut as I make it out to be. Your own GM has actually called him the best scorer in the league. Its ok though...time will bear out what I am saying. I am confident of that because Phil is putting Melo in a position to win big, which is something no other coach or GM has ever done for Melo. Its not complete yet for sure but they have trade chips that are going to be attractive to other teams and salaries that (for once) arent bloated. Phil didnt risk his legacy to GM some nonsense 35-47 team. I am 100% sure of that. The similarities to his Lakers rebuilding days are cryptic right down to the salary numbers (percentage wise) and the potential prospects the Knicks have.

I never said he's not the most complete scorer in the league. He's not the most productive scorer, though. And his defense doesn't make up for his scoring production enough for me to pick him over Bosh.

As for Whiteside, the guy is a double double machine and defensive juggernaut. If this guy can keep it up, he will be the next Dikembe Mutombo. Still young too.

Think we could do an outright swap for someone like Cousins? He doesn't really want to be in Sacramento and Whiteside is going to be a cap issue IIRC since the max we can offer him without using cap space is well below what the actual max is for a UFA.

BTW Boik, Bosh's contract is nowhere near as bad as Melo's and is downright great going forward.

Bosh is a first ballot HOFer and still a top 20ish NBA player, and Whiteside is an emerging star. I would not, and nobody else with a brain would trade those two for Carmelo Anthony.

Melo is a one dimensional player. A Great dimension (scorer)...of course...but a dimension that needs a lot of help to win. Bosh can fit into a team structure and help immensely right away, because he is such a well rounded multi-tool player.

Yes..Melo at his best and healthy is a better player than Bosh, because his one dimension can affect the game better than Bosh's efficiency and P&R defense. But Melo needs help. Bosh is the Help.

You drop Bosh into OKC or swap him for Love in Cleveland, or drop him into SA instead of Lamarcus, drop him into the Rockets.....ALL OF THOSE teams win the title.
