This is what I hate about draft pick compensation being attached to a somewhat mediocre player. Yes, him and Bora's grossly misread the market. But,in general, players are getting hurt in the wallet because of it. I think mlb needs to reevaluate the draft pick compensation. Maybe change to lower picks as free agency goes on? Who knows.
For a win now team like the Tigers the difference between Drew and any Igelsias replacement is probably 3 or 4 wins is it worth losing a draft pick? Yeah in this situation I'd say so.
They should just get rid of it, as it really only helps big market teams anyway. I mean a team like TB for example isn't going to risk offering a Drew/Morales like player a QO because if he accepts they are screwed with having to pay him. Plus it would lead to more trades and that's always fun.
Yea I think there needs to be compensation closer to what the NFL does. That would help the smaller market teams more.
Guess MLB never learns... Miggy might be an all time great when he retires ( you can argue he is now) but 8 years with 2 option years? SMH.
They elected to pay him as you said with 2 years left as opposed to pay Max? Not sure I would have done that...
