The only guy that's surprising is Alex Wilson. Not that he had a real shot at making the club but because he got cut so quickly. Of course he pitched pretty poorly in ST so far but still surprising because he pitched in the big leagues last year and at one point was regarded as a possible "future closer".

Kind of surprised to see Devin Marrero not get cut yet but word is the Sox have been extremely happy with his play at SS this spring. If he can actually hit he might be a future regular for a MLB club.

How has their young arms done this ST, haven't really paid much attention.....Kuroda got whacked around yesterday, Pineda today.....Betances and Montgomery have been really good so far they could make it...

I really don't know to be honest with you. I barely pay attention to what happens. What I do know from my brief reading of Sox blogs and new sites is that Barnes was shut down with a sore shoulder and hasn't pitched in a real ST game, Owens and Ranuado have been fine, De La Rosa has been inconsistent, Workman has looked pretty good, Webster had a bad first start but apparently watched tape of his start with Lester and Lackey who gave him some advice and since them has been pretty good.

Again it's ST so hard to get excited either way.

There is a rumor going around that the White Sox are interested in Cervelli and a FC for Gordon Beckem trade "isnt impossible"...I was thinking FC for a reliever, but hell if they can pull Beckham off even better.....not great but again we are talking about Cervelli....

Like you said you're talking about Cervelli so anything you get back for him isn't going to be a great return if he's the center piece of the deal.

Beckham is a career .249/.314/.380/694 hitter. He's nothing special, just another Scott Sizemore type with a bigger name because he was a former 1st round pick.

I guess it depends on whether or not the Yankees think Romine could be a better back up or not.

Cervelli is one of those guys that does good things when he plays....it is weird, nothing special but I like his attitude and again for a backup catcher with a career .271/.344/.367 you could certainly do worse alla Chris freaking Stewart.....Beckham I agree nothing special but Cervelli is a career backup IMO...Romine started really slow last year, but post All-Star break he put up basically Cervelli's career slash. So the question is, can Romine replicate Cervelli's output? I think so.

The move could put GB at 2nd and Kelly Johnson at 3rd....that isnt bad, not ideal but much better than Johnson and Nune

Some would argue that a .249/.314/.380/694 hitter is, or at least should be, a back up. He's 27 years old and isn't getting any better and his stats have been similar year to year or slightly worse, I don't see any upside to him. He doesn't seem to be that great on defense either according to his UZR and other defensive metrics.

I don't know, I kind of think it would simply be a sideways move aka a move just to make a move.

Again I still think it's crazy the Yankees haven't signed Stephen Drew yet.

However the Yankee have depth at catcher....they dont however have or even know what they are going to get from either Roberts or Nunez which is worse....it will cost the Yankees literally Cervelli to stabilize 2 position for 2 years....kicking the can down the road sure...but Cervelli is less to give up than a draft pick and a multi-year overpriced deal to Drew....Drew is def regressing as well in his numbers at 30...at least Beckham should a little promise this past year, albeit in 100 games

Again if Drew wants to sign 1/7-9M sure.....at this point he really should wait until after OD.....

Beckham's just not a good MLB player. He's been in the league for 5 years and he's never hit or shown any improvement. Drew is a much better player than Beckham is. Drew's worst year is still better than Beckham's best year. The Yankees would be a much better team with Drew in their line up than Beckham this year and probably the next 2 years and probably beyond that.

Keith Law in a recent ESPN chat said that teams have to sign a player after the draft in order not to lose their draft pick. Plus again waiting to sign a player, you run the risk of another team signing him. If the Yankees need Drew for example, they can't wait nor should they wait to sign him.

I am saying for Drew personally, he should wait....why would he want to go through this again....

And pump the brakes on Drew honestly he is avg at best...and not worth the 10M+ they are asking and a draft pick....

His last 3 years... .245/.322/.403 which is what Beckham's is....he is declining at this point is the same player offensively with a tad more pop...

In the end this is useless because it probably wont happen anyway....

They absolutely should and I would be surprised if they don't sign Drew. Heck Drew probably makes the Tigers a better team over having Igelsias in there.

Also if the Tigers sign Drew the Sox will have picks 25, 32 and 33 in this year's draft. Man really wish they offered Salty a QO now.

I agree. I don't think he'll give them much of anything in terms of production only because I don't think he stays healthy all year. Maybe he'll agree to start the year on the DL so he can play games at Triple A and get in regular at bats instead of sitting on the bench and playing once or twice a week.

There's no such thing as a good test in March with a Sox line up of JBJ, Gomes, Carp, Lavarnway, Bogaerts, Brown, Ross, Synder and Herrera.

Saw the first 2 innings on my lunch break. His slider looked really good but his fastball looked very straight and hittable. Was in the upper 80s mostly with it, touched 90 and 91 a few times.

Which is a little concerning, he was at 93 earlier....scouts saying his secondary stuff is good though...

Word is they are planning on putting him down to AAA to start the year, bring him up in May....he will be on an innings limit and this way he will be able to pitch to the finish...

What would happen IF the Yanks made the playoffs is another story....I would think he would be the odd man out on a 4 man rotation...

His fastball has always been flat hasn't it? I feel like it's been 5 years since I seen him pitch.

I know he was throwing mid 90s before. But it seemed like his fastball has always been flat.

Interesting who's getting that 5th spot then? Phelps?

I couldn't tell you, I don't remember when the last time I saw him pitch and how he looked. Either way I figure he's probably a different pitcher now then in 2011 pre surgery. Like I said, the slider looked really good, he was able to throw it for strikes and to both sides of the plate but his fastball looked hittable. Would be interesting to see how he does against a good hitting team 2 or 3 times through the order.

If George was still alive the Yankees wouldn't have a single road game this year and would play the Astros 120 times.

An article from Rays website about the AL East's top 20 prospects....lack of Rays, especially at the top, doesn't bode well.

    LINK

    Top is obvious
    First New Yorker
    First Ray
    State of the Orgs.

Like it is talked about, when the Rays trade Price next off season I foresee the Rays farm improving quite a bit. But the drafting, as we have talked about before, has been atrocious recently. And that's not good with the amount of picks we have had lately. Hopefully for the Rays sake, some players develop they weren't counting on. I am a big fan of Hak-Ju Lee. I expect him to open as the everyday SS in 2015. Really the only Rays prospect I am excited for.

    Good article, thanks for sharing.

I don't think you can count on the Rays trading Price next off season or even the package of what they could get for him. I think the only reason why Price is still a Ray is because the Rays couldn't get the package they were looking for. I can't see how they will be able to get it next off season when the team getting Price will only be getting 1 year of service time instead of 2. But, of course, all it takes is for a team to get desperate and do something stupid I guess.

I think they wont get a bevy of high-levelers but I think this happens and they will get some good ones back in return....Worst case scenario is the Cano theory, just getting a comp pick for him...

I think the opposite actually. While the Rays would of traded Price 100%. I don't think they went out there looking for a deal. I think they are kind of all in this year. The exact same situation happened with Shields. He reupped with the Rays for 11 mil. Then the next off season they got the house for him. To get a guy in the prime of his career as good as Price is, they will get a package IMO. And the team will look to sign Price long term soon after.

But the package, in theory, would be higher if the team getting Price was getting him for 2 years vs. 1 year. I just don't think there were as many teams after Price than the Rays thought nor were the prospects being offered as good as the Myers/Shields deal and that's why they hung onto him. If they had another Myers package on the table I think they would have pulled the trigger.
