Interesting because we hadn't hear much on the Oden front (except from Section and a brief mention from Barry Jackson). I'm very much hoping they bring him back.
Ira also made the point about the luxury tax "cliff" which I think is $81 million. Regardless, we could essentially give all 3 guys their original contracts back, which is roughly $63 million, McRoberts is $4.5, Cole $2, Granger $2.2, Napier $1, Ennis $1 and that's $73.7 million. Luxury tax is $77 million. Plenty of room to fill the roster before the hard cap kicks in. But like I said, we'd be better off long term not hitting the luxury tax (which is why I still think Wade takes less) so we get out of the repeater bracket and have the full MLE again next year.
You know what also passes time at work? Work! Reddit is continually in meltdown mode. Check out those global warming threads. Ba-dum-tish.
Nobody counting Haslem anymore. He was due $4.6million, right? They gonna give him that over multiple years? Still gotta count $1-2million.
Depends where they are over the cap. If they are over the Luxury tax apron then no. There is space between the Tax apron and the cap. If they are in that space they can S&T. The Nets cannot S&T because they were over the tax apron. A team like Miami that was over the cap but under the luxury tax apron can S&T I just dont think they can take back the max amount of salary (150% of what you give out) like an under the cap team can do. A team in that gray area can only take back 125% of what they give out. Maybe so but his entire staff, agents and all, wanted him to go to NYK. Maybe he never wanted to go to NYK but everyone else affiliated with him did. That would just reinforce my point though.
Woj reporting that while no guarantees were made, McRoberts and Granger both strongly believe they will be playing with LeBron James next year
Probably 3 yrs $5 million. A bit more than his one year deal. Then he gets a mafia style "no work" position, lol
Came in here all excited to see all the new activity... instead it feels like Im still chasing the money at the end of the fishing line haha Really interested to see what happens with Ennis and Napier. Has there been any trade talks from any team with Love? Just curious.
They will IMO. We are not stupid. We know it takes more than a year to get back to playing basketball at a high level after sitting out many seasons with a nasty injury. From all reports he was able to practice hard and fully participate in all practices down the stretch. If he is healthy it would be dumb not to let him get his game back a little before judging.
Knicks are stashing Thanasis Antetokoumnpo in Greece for another year. Could mean Phil didnt see minutes for him right now and that Melo is coming back. http://nypost.com/2014/07/07/knicks-to-stash-greek-freaks-brother-in-europe/
My favorite player. (Not the best player, just favorite) So its good to know we are priority #1 to him.
Question to all you who know how this NBA cap thing works: If the big 3 still take less money and the Heat sign another big-ish name like Deng to hit the cap, can they still use the MLE and mini exception and that trade exception on top of that?!?
okay... lets try it this way. You have 15 roster spots. But you have a Cap, but the exceptions and own retained players allow you to go "over" the cap. They would move Granger into a permanent roster spot, to open up one of those "exceptions" to use on another player. The way you can do that is via trade, by getting rid of a trade exception that "has to" be used. You can't "PUT" a player into a Trade exception, so you are essentially trading an item that is only worth it to you if you use it. SO a "trade" does two things. You trade the trade exception for an additional roster exception. You get Granger in the process.
Ah, so the MLE only works for teams who start free agency over the cap? What about the mini exception?
@EthanJSkolnick 20m For all the Chris Bosh reports out there, I keep checking back and keep hearing same: he intends to be in Miami.
I'm still a little confused. Aren't the Heat way under the cap already? I have some minimal understanding of cap holds, so does the MLE and mini exception being used now mean the Big 3 is going to eat the entire $63M cap room money, along with the contracts of Cole and Napier? Are they each going to take $20M?
A Permanent roster spot is charged against the cap, and does not fall under the Vet. Min. Rules, or any of the Exception rules.
Ah okay. Its a weird terminology for what it actually is if you dont have a complete understanding of the cap. Thanks. So basically by making Granger a permanent roster spot you allow yourself more flexibility if I'm generally understanding.
The Heat is operating as if the Big 3 are each getting extensions based on previous salary. Thus the Cap Hold. SO they are operating as if they are capped out.
Man...Lebron is gonna double-break Cleveland's collective heart this time when he comes back to the Heat after all this horse**** talk of him being interested in the Cavs. This will be unforgivable in that city's eyes after 2010.
Most of it should be blamed on national and Cleveland reporters and not LeBron himself this time around.
Worst part is the Cavs are doing it to their own fans with this talk of "We THINK he MIGHT listen" Lebron hasnt done anything wrong.
I wonder if Rich Paul's full-court press to get Lebron back to Cleveland breaks their long-standing relationship?
Sect, Tree....Paul Pierce is playing the Main Event today. Currently up 12.k from starting stack of 30k. Guess that's what old rich people do.
You know, if Houston wants Chris Bosh so goddamn bad, why not a sign-and-trade for Chandler Parsons plus another piece?
Nah..he is just "playing agent" for the first time. Lebron will forgive him. In fact...why A MAX player would EVER have an agent..I have no idea. It's stupid.
