Parsons could be part of it. Pat Beverly. Not sure of their salary structure. Or you just let him go and either sign Melo or use the now $20 million in space (or whatever it ends up being after all the other signings) and sign Gasol/Deng/Ariza.
Serious question and I see LeBatard asking the same thing...did ANYONE have markers on the Danny Granger and Josh McRoberts squares? I saw Josh McRoberts mentioned by Barry Jackson among a group of like 10 guys as a possibility at the $6 million level. Never saw Danny Granger mentioned anywhere in this thread except derisively. Ethan Skolnick saying that despite the "fake tough guy" incident a few years ago, LeBron has always spoken very highly of Danny Granger's game. Is Pat Riley just trying to collect players he knows LeBron respects?
Jameer Nelson makes a lot of sense as well...although the smarter move is Morrow and then Bird right sign Mario Chalmers.
No. But the target list I was given...they followed it to a tee. McRoberts was under the radar. They did a Gasol, Ariza, Deng, Marvin WIlliams meeting. They also met with Brandon Rush which is interesting.
Brandon Rush was shooting the 3 at an incredible rate before his ACL. Interesting minimum type signing
So basically you think they went through Plans A thru J and are now on Plan K...and they're hoping it's enough to convince the Big 3 to keep this all in tact.
Ethan's out there trying to connect the dots on how the Heat came to like each guy. Says there aren't many NBA coaches out there that the Heat respect more than Steve Clifford, and Clifford was a huge fan of Josh McRoberts. Earlier Ethan said that despite a small dust-up a few years ago, LeBron has always spoken very highly of Danny Granger's game.
Rush would be a good signing at the minimum IMO. He would seemingly push James Jones off the roster though, and we all know he's a LeBron favorite.
As upsetting as it is to be on plan K, these moves along with bringing back the big 3 and a couple other small moves would probably make the Heat better than they were last year. And that's before you even get into what Napier and Ennis could bring.
Winderman says the Heat can turn Granger's bi-annual deal into a trade-exception move by making it a trade with the Clippers, giving LA their own trade-exception. Which is pure chinese to me.
I know how much y'all love Sam Amico, but - Sam Amico @SamAmicoFSO After Heat have signed Danny Granger and Josh McRoberts, source with knowledge says "get ready," they likely have another move coming.
If we turn the Granger signing into S&T for the TPE with the Clippers (I presume they would accept some 2nd rounder 10 years from now or something of similarly low value) we can then still use the bi-annual on a guy like Morrow.
According to Moke Hamilton, the Knicks turned down a deal to dump Bargnani before dealing Tyson Chandler because they would have had to trade away THJr as well in said proposal. Also according to Moke Hamilton, Phil Jackson believes he can clear Amare AND Bargs and get Lebron to NY as well. He thinks NYK will be a late entrant in to the Lebron back to Miami derby. Personally, I dont even want Lebron. I want a team that will beat Lebron. Every. Single. Year. Just posting what Im reading. But if Phil does all that, he is a damn magician who needs to quit GM'ing a team and run for president, create world peace (not the player) etc.
I don't think teams over the cap can do sign and trades - but I'm sure there's ways around it or just the order in which these transactions go.
First, who is Moke Hamilton. Second, Bargs and Amare have some value as expiring contracts but you would need to trade them to teams with cap space as a pure salary dump. And the only way to do that is to add pieces to make it worth the other team's while, or draft picks which you don't really have.
@EthanJSkolnick 9m Pat Riley, in statement, confirms talks with Granger and says team intends to sign him Thursday. Again, unusual.
So what is the Heat roster aiming to look like at this point? LeBron James Chris Bosh Dwyane Wade Norris Cole Josh McRoberts Danny Granger Shabazz Napier James Ennis Greg Oden Who else? Who would return? What's the status of guys like Ray Allen, Chris Anderson and Mario Chalmers?
Allen would sign for minimum, I assume. I think you can re-sign Chalmers or Birdman due to Bird rights??? But money is drying up so probably only 1 assuming both want more than vet minimum. Jameer Nelson and Emeka Okafor might be vet minimum guys? Or if you can do that Clippers trade it opens up $2mil for one of them or Morrow.
Think of a NBA roster as a set of blocks. and you can only fill with those blocks. The Heat would trade a fungible block to be able to open another one that is permanent. (if that makes sense. LOL)
Moke covers the Knicks for SNY TV in NY. Second, I know. I didnt say they would be traded for Lebron, I said the rumor is Phil is trying to move both. Bargs Phil supposedly thinks someone will take willingly without a sweetner (maybe Orlando since they also have to reach the cap floor) while the rumor is that Shump would go to Philly with Amare so they can reach the cap floor.. I dont. I really dont. If NYK wasnt good enough for ya when we wanted ya, then GTFO. Gimme Melo-Love-Gasol or Durant-Love Gasol. Id rather wait a few years for someone who actually wants to be here.
Doubt it. We are already over the cap and there is a hard cap of $81 million, depending on a few things which are really complicated. However, if possible, it would behoove us to avoid the luxury tax because we would avoid the repeater tax and would be in position to use the full MLE again next year.
On Granger....interesting how successful he was in his short stint with the Clippers. If that is who the Heat get..then they nailed it. Good gamble IMO.
Never has before. Only 4 franchises have paid more Luxury Tax than Miami since it's inception. But narratives....they are strong...
Ira making the point (which was briefly mentioned in here previously) that the Heat using their exceptions to sign these guys means that Bosh has no reason to leave now. If the rumors were true that he was not happy about potentially having to take a pay cut, then now that is no longer a worry as the Heat can pay all 3 handsomely and still not have to really worry about the luxury tax. The only way I see Bosh leaving now is if somehow LeBron leaves (I don't see that as likely), or LeBron would rather have Melo (which I'm not sure I really buy either as Bosh is such a good fit with him).
