Really? That sounds like a pretty low offer for a guy who can shoot like he can. I'd imagine demand would be higher than that. At the very least I'd expect him to get the MLE. Portland gave up a 1st round pick to get him for half a season.
Here's the line from Woj - http://sports.yahoo.com/news/sources--knicks-to-pursue-arron-afflalo-in-free-agency-190634905.html
Word is Wade is about to get humbled, not much of a market for him out there. They dont like his age and history with injuries. Bucks and Pistons may throw money at him though, but is that better than accepting 3 year 45 million to stay in Miami? We will see. Ill be extremely shocked if he uproots his family to move to Detroit or Milwaukee.
Yeah, Broussard saying the market is pretty soft. And he's not a priority. LA/Knicks are looking at bigs first. Is he willing to wait 10 days on those teams? Seems to me he's already caved a bit. We went from initial reports regarding him seeking $20 million per year to now the shelbourne report of $16 per year. Let's just settle this at $14-15 million per structured in such a way that the cap hit is the lowest next year and move on. This seems simple.
I still think the best deal for the Heat is to give him the $23 million max this year and then see what happens next summer.
Per Woj, Sacramento gauging interest of John Calipari to be their coach and President of Basketball Ops. Would solve their Cousins problem, plus potentially make them more attractive to FAs.
Saw they were trying to get Bledsoe - do they have anything to offer? Boogie and Bledsoe w Calipari could be fun.
Calipari wishes he took the Lakers offer. If that team gets Lamarcus he's going to be kicking himself. Theygot Deangelo Russell, they may get Lamarcus, everyone thinks Davis will leave the Pelicans in the future... Calipari is gonna stick with the Kentucky job and just say he never wanted to leave to save face, he always tries to save face and has excuses for everything.. but deep inside it's going to sting.
Wade looks like a different guy. Seems to be in great shape. Seems like he is taking the latter part of his career seriously.
Yea, hes not good enough to be getting 11-13M per. Hes one who should have opted in. Hes coming off career worst shooting numbers and career low PPG. He cant carry an offense...not even close. 11-13M per is reserved for all stars or at the very least high end starters. Giving him 11-13M per would be flat out nuts. Per Pro Basketball Talk: Hes not a 12M per player and any team that gives it to him is an idiot. Luckily I am taking this with a grain of salt because frankly I dont think Phil is this stupid. For that price we would simply go after DeMarre Carroll or Tobias Harris who are both younger and havent hit their primes yet. So Woj is talking outta his behind on this. Knicks have been linked to everyone (Aldridge, Monroe, Carroll, Harris, DeAndre, etc)....Ill bet they leave FA with Monroe and a bunch of 1 year contract guys or Monroe and West.
IMO the best deal for everybody is something around 3 for $45 mil, but you make that first year higher (something like $20, $13, $12). That lets Wade save face and probably best reflects his true value. He's at a point in his where his value will decline rapidly. He'd probably be overpaid this season, but I also think he is still capable of having a big year so maybe he won't be. He gets some long term security that gets him to about age 36. The Heat avoids the drama next year of "will Wade leave" and has some flexibility regarding a possible Durant pursuit.
Also for Knicks expect them to sign at least one "3 and D" guy from Green Carroll or Afflalo. I think they have a number set for the position though that they will not exceed. They're also looking at Al Farouq aminu because they do need athletes and D on the wing. Marc Gasol only meeting with Grizz. Cancelled other meetings. LMA meeting with 5 teams....Port, Sas, LAL, Toronto and NYK in that order.
I don't think they will come close to that number. Woj hasn't been accurate on the knicks since Phil's been there. Safe to say Grunwald or Walsh was his source.
Knicks sign: Afflalo Monroe West and add that to Carmelo.... that's a playoff team...barely. Not a terrible start.
Stephen A. Smith is saying Miami and Wade met last night. Don't know if anyone mentioned it already. Also Barry Jackson is running with the Monta Ellis thing, Heat like him if things with Wade fall apart.
I'd love to see that happen. First it would be entertaining to hear people blast the ownership there for the revolving GM chair. And second, I want Calipari out of the SEC. A great recruiter in Kentucky is almost unfair.
Ethan Skolnick has confirmed Wade met with Micky Arison last night. Wade wants fourth year on the deal.
No thanks to tying Miami to Wade for another four years. Just cut ties now, when the blame can go on him.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9ueb6RhOKk Right around the minute mark you see a lot of the two man game between Monta Ellis and Tyson Chandler, and I think this could be something that attracts Miami to him thinking about what he could do with Whiteside this way.
It sounds like they are discussing a one year max deal and then come back with a three year offer next year.
A 4th year is really impossible due to the Over 36 rule. the full value of the contract would be on the cap the first 3 years. Wade and Micky meeting is good. If trust was a problem, that's the way it can be restored.
Always kind of thought Houston made a mistake signing Ariza to that big deal. Now they are strapped trying to sign Aldridge / Love. Ariza is a really nice player, but that skill set seems somewhat replaceable. And I say this realizing the Cavs are gonna pay the hell out of Shump and Tristan who are players with limited skill sets that can be replaced with lesser versions for a fraction of the price.
Agree. IMO, Ariza is a better "specialist" than Luol Deng (now), but Deng is at the tail end of his starter/contributor career, and at the infancy of his 3 and D/glue guy career. Ariza got paid like he was Luol Deng. That's always a mistake.
As for Shump and Tristan...Shump is worth the Mini-MLE ($3.4) and I can see myself being pushed to pay him $5.5 per. As for Tristan, he should be paid like a top performer/non all-star. So around $10-12mil per.
Tristan already turned down 4 years 50 million didnt he? Doubt he signs for anything less than 15 per year
I like Thompson as a defender and rebounder. I think his offense is the big man equivalent to Shumperts; i.e. extremely limited. Anything over 7-8M per for his limited offense is no different then giving Tyson Chandler or DeAndre Jordan that kind of money except he doesnt have the DPOY potential or award that the other two have. I understand giving bigs more money because there are fewer of them but giving Thompson 10-12 is flat out silly. Id be as ticked if the Knicks did that as I would if they gave Afflalo that kind of money. If hes got to be your worst offensive player maybe. If hes got to be your 3rd or 4th option? LOL no.
Don't even set yourself up for a jaw drop, he's going to get a max contract offer sheet, and the Cavaliers will match it. A league where 5th tier players like Gordon Hayward, Chandler Parsons and many others can get max contract offer sheets, Tristan will get his too.
Tristan and Shump gonna get paaaaaaaaaaaaaaid. Cavs can't afford to lose them, cuz they can't replace them. Tristan also shares an agent with LeBron. I'm more ok with paying Tristan - he's never been hurt and the way the league is moving to small-ball his ability to switch onto smaller guards not named Curry is pretty great. For the Cavs they're so far in cap hell that overpaying just doesn't mean much other than Dan Gilbert paying more and F that dude, so everyone wins.
Cavs talking to Spurs about the Haywood deal so Spurs can open space for Aldridge. This had been floating around some Cavs circles for a bit. Assume it would involve Splitter or Mills or both.
