Unless he can never pitch again there is no way he accepts arbitration. At his age he'll easily get a mult-year deal so of course the Yankees will offer him arbitration.
It depends on how good Hughes is this year but Edwin Jackson, at age 30, got a 4 year 13 million per year deal. So probably his contract will be closer to that then Beckett/Lackey but he's going to get paid.
right good call......personally I hope they keep him but I will take the draft pick compensation..... Hughes has been up and down his career, sure he can work on somethings.....HR/9 comes to mind, but he is 26 with a ring....I think he gets better than he is now....I am just not sure whoever you replace Hughes with for that money is going to be better that much than him to make it worth it..... Plus with Hiro leaving after this year and possibly AP they need him at this point.....not to mention I know the reports are positive on Pineda but who knows how he goes when he comes back you know?
Yeah I think if you're the Yankees you need to resign Hughes, assuming the money/years make sense, since they don't have an in house replacement for him right now while also factoring in what will happen with Kuroda and Pettitte too (whether or not they resign or retire but their age too). And yes while that's nice and great for Pineda that he's throwing 95ish, it is one thing to do it on side sessions, it's another thing to do it 100 plus times every 5 days trying to get MLB hitters out. Right no, and who really knows, is that the Yankees will be babying him (rightfully so) so he might not even throw a pitch in the ML this year so if that's the case he'll probably be on a strict innings limit for 2014 too and with Banuelous out for the year and who knows his status the Yankees have little quality major league ready replacements. Again though it all depends on the money and years, if the Yankees offer him a fair contract but another team wants to give him more money/years then I'd probably let him walk and patch up the rotation instead of handcuffing the budget.
I don't think this could backfire because I don't think he could ever be a big league SP due to his lack of control. Its probably his only option.
Way too early to tell, he might be fine throwing 15 to 20 pitches for 1 inning with fine control if he knows all he has to do is throw his FB and an off speed pitch.
https://twitter.com/MLB/status/332997392938983424/photo/1 #Yankees had a surprise waiting for Mariano Rivera at the site of last year's injury.
Is that real? Holy **** of course it is........guys/gals look at this? You have all the closers in the league....and this guy is STILL dominating the league after all these years throwing 89MPH cutters that everybody knows is coming. Bottom line hate if you will but realize the man is a effing icon and a legend in the sport, never to be seen again after this year, I would just encourage people to watch him pitch and watch his mechanics(as I have, watched every inning so far this year of him pitching)......dude is like a freaking wizard, repeating repeating repeating......remember when he threw 97MPH? Remember when he threw 2 inning saves in the playoffs and World Series.......just amazing.....IMO the most amazing athlete since Marino on one of my teams..... Might honestly be the most dominate pitcher to EVER pitch in the games history, and no disrespect to Jackie Robinson but it isn't even close who the real 42 is in terms of TALENT only.... Like Jeter next year, I can't wait for his final appearance in Fenway......it will make me very sad....
I had the honor to watch Rivera through my entire child hood up until now. I will never forget seeing him collapse to the mound after the Aaron Boone home run. After the amazing outing he had that game. We will never see anyone like him, and he is one of the greatest baseball players of all time. I am sad to see him go after this season. but I will enjoy what we have left of him!
Pettitte has won 63% of his games. Man, I was sad when he left the Yankees back in 2004, but I am glad he came back. One of my favorite Yankees.
Say classy Joba, now sure how anyone can have an issue with Rivera. I'm sure the Yankees can't wait to get rid of him after the year: http://www.nydailynews.com/shhh-joba-disses-mo-yanks-closer-asks-quiet-article-1.1341718?pmSlide=0
As a Yankee fan, I can't wait for Jobba to leave. Has no respect. You are nothing, Rivera is a first ballot Hall of Famer, you are not even close. After Mo retires, he will be at old timers day, only way you get to go is with a ticket
Douche. Wow. Seriously why do you question when God speaks? This ain't the old Yankees anymore, I bet Mo and Jeter really deep down can't wait till they retire.
boy do I miss the good old days of Bernie Williams, Tino Martinez, Scott Brosius, Paul O'Neill, David Cone, Roger Clemens, even block head Chuck Knoblauch. Those where the days! Shane Spencer, Chad Curtis, Darryl Strawberry. Man Old Timers day is going to be good once more of the 90's players start showing up!
I have always been a fan of Vernon Wells, so I am glad he is a yankee. Man is he having a hell of a year!
It really says something about you as a person, as well as a player to receive tributes at visiting staidums like Chipper Jones got last year. First Detriot, and now KC. very classy of them to honor a opponent they hated to face for years.
Take notes Joba. The Greatest of all time just showed you how its done. Rivera is a better pitcher at 43, then Joba was at any age. Mo is leading the league, or tied, with 15 saves. He is 15/15, at age 43. 43 years old! Mariano Rivera 12× All-Star (1997, 1999–2002, 2004–2006, 2008–2011) 5× World Series champion (1996, 1998–2000, 2009) 5× AL Rolaids Relief Man Award (1999, 2001, 2004–2005, 2009) 3× Delivery Man of the Year Award (2005–2006, 2009) World Series MVP Award (1999) AL Championship Series MVP Award (2003) 3× MLB saves leader (1999, 2001, 2004) MLB record for career saves (622) Joba Camberlain World Series champion (2009) Grow up Joba. I am sorry but he pisses me off, saying he has no reason to apologize. You have done nothing in your career. I really would like to see Mo get the last out in the World Series this season, then retire
Even as a Red Sox fan you have to admire Rivera. You never hear or read anything bad about him. And he's a no nonsense guy on and off the field. When he makes a big play or gets a big out or save he simply puts his head down like he's done it before (mainly because he has). Even I'm going to miss the guy when he retires.
I feel the same with Ortiz. I like the guy. Yeah he has his failed drug test, but if I am going to look at that, ill be a hypocrite to be a huge Andy Pettitte supporter.
The thing is too that makes it even more sad when he retires is that he isn't a spotlight kinda guy, when he goes he is gone.....you wont see him much, he doesn't make many appearances...isn't like a charity golf kinda guy.....He will go back to Panama and be a pastor in his church.... Maybe he shows up at an Old Timer game a few times...
Oh I bet you'll see him a few times a year at Yankee Stadium and you'll probably see him as a pitching coach assistant in ST a few times. I don't think he'll disappear but he won't be like Reggie Jackson either. I could see the Yankees giving him a job as "special assistant to the GM" like the Red Sox did with Pedro and Varitek where he goes down to spring training or the minors every once and awhile to help with a pitching prospect. You know damn well he'll throw out the 1st pitch at YS next year at the Yankees first home game and of course when they retire his number. Knowing the Yankees I'm sure they'll make a whole weekend out of it.
Well it's kinda like the Yankees had a day off. Just needed 2 runs in in game 1 and 1 in game two. Instead we score 0 in game 1 and 7 in 2 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Nuno, Claiborne, Joseph, Warren all the kids playing good today. Love it. Pretty excited to see Nuno do well in his first win of his career, hopefully he keeps it up, there is always a spot for a lefty on the big team. Reminds me alot of AP, not very fast, mixes pitches well, keeps hitters guessing.
Keep it up Yanks! 2 games up, playing great baseball. This team is a come back team this year. Can never count them out. Great win, 1st place! Love it! Also Boston loses again!
Yeah it was nice to see them get after the BP after the King left.... Overbay has been a pleasant surprise this year as well... Raul still hitting home runs in Yankee Stadium....
ugh please take your time Mark, take all the time you need.....really the only one I care that comes back at this point is DJ.....
At work and saw Andy got hurt. Please tell me it's all going to be okay Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
