These are large assumptions. I have to think MLB spoke to the same witnesses/sources and also went through all the evidence they had on the case and were able to determine that both Gonzalez and Valencia were "innocent" compared to the other players involved. I find it hard to believe that MLB would simply take the word of a player's father without looking into it first.
Arod is the name they wanted man. Danny Valencia just doesnt get headlines like Arod does neither does Gonzalez. The idea that Braun after his little Lance Armstrong like defense got the same penalty as the minor leaguers did its disgusting. The players reactions to Braun are telling enough.. They know he is a complete lying fraud.
So what are you getting at with Valencia and Gonzalez ? You think just because he wasn't a big name MLB let them off the hook?
I am saying the focus of this was always Arod. With the constant leaks from "sources" about all the ammo they had on him and how Selig could possibly ban him for life with no appeal to now 200 something games and he plays before this goes to the Arb and they are now saying that could be till Nov. They were saying Selig could block him from playing until it went to the Arb but now he is playing so Selig is a gutless all talk coward or they dont have nearly as much on them as they claim.
Mariano Rivera received a pair of Haynes white Socks from the White Sox today. not really but that would have been funny!
While I definitely think this is an Arod witch hunt by the MLB, I think the media has a lot of blame for this too. They're making Arod out to be some kind of monster comparing him to murderers and the like. Arod is simply an insecure athlete who says and does dumb things, he's not the first or the last. Even as a non Yankee or Arod fan I think this 211 game ban is a bit much and the only way I can see how or why MLB would do it for that long is if they have solid proof he tried to pay off witnesses or destroy evidence and there are also whispers that he was a pusher of the clinic and told many other players about it. I guess we'll see in November.
2 outs agian and they can't close it out. I don't know what I expected anyway. I am done with this team this season.
I need rehab for this season. I need to take a two week break, maybe. Yikes, can they find any other ways to lose? If warren doesnt touch that ball, Cano has an easy out and the game is over.
I feel like I am wasting my time watching these games. Man this is how the other half lives and I hate it!
I am cool with sucking for a few years, provided they do all the things they are supposed to be doing.... ie...drafting well, etc....
Good luck with that, realistically the Yankees should take a step back and rebuild but I just can't see them doing that. Even the Red Sox when they started their rebuild still spent money on Dempster, Napoli and Victorino. Granted they were able to sign them to shorter/smaller deals but it's hard to total rebuild in a big market like Boston or New York because of the pressures from fans, media, sponsors, tv/radio ratings, etc.
It just isn't jiving with reality tho.....look at the free agents out there, Cano aside, the 2 top free agents out there are Ellsbury and Choo, both of which will tied to draft pick compensation....as well I just don't see those guys putting a team over the top either....great players, not game changers.... the landscape has been changing for a while now... What could they realistically do Fink besides make desperate move and set them back even further?
They're kind of screwed to be honest with you. They have an older team with large contracts and don't really have much in the minor leagues in terms of trade chips or prospects (especially considering how their top prospects either had bad years or got hurt) that can come up and help the big league club. Honestly their best bet is to re-sign Cano and Kuroda, and sign a few role players to fill in at 3rd, SS, OF etc (Jonny Gomes type platoon players for example) and hope that Jeter and Teixeira come back healthy in 2014, Sabathia and Pettitte (assuming he doesn't retire) have a bounce back season and the team in general has some luck.
Id rather lose 1-0 then win the way we did with Mo blowing his 2nd save. I already given up on the season, I am just watching for Mo now and it sucks he blew two saves in a row
I think New York has spoken on the A-Rod issue. The guy just didn't look like he wanted to be there at all last night. Maybe he starts to realize all the things he has done has consequences. Him K'ing 3 times and leaving 4 on base was just the icing on the cake. I have never seen a more mental midget in sports than him, that guy lets the stage get to him so easily.
Torre wrote about it in his book. I read it when it first came out and vaguely remember his explanation was something like the Yankees really didn't think he was badly hurt. Which I don't buy because the announcers were talking about his radical surgery he got earlier in the day and again there was blood on the sock. So either no one in the Yankees organization was watching/listening to the game on TV or they're just dumb. I mean why not try it once with Miguel Cairo or Enique Wilson. Torre had an awful ALCS that year especially in Game 4 or 5 when he didn't have anyone try to steal a base off of Wakefield/Varitek when Varitek had like 26 passed balls in an inning.
I know i know, I said I am done with this team, but I knew Yanks could win today once Kuroda was on the mound. It would have sucked if he couldnt get the win he deserved. Guy is hands down our Ace, only guy we can count on, wish he wasnt 100 years old, but man he is so underrated in baseball. Another solid outing, and i believe thats 8 or 9 games this season where he threw 7 innings without allowing a run. I thought they were going to blow another game in the 9th, but glad Houdini was there to get the job done.
They didn't believed in small ball back in 2004.....crap they still dont believe in it and they dont hit HR's like they did before...
Baseball needs instant replay. That call was terrible and was not the umpire at home to make. Yeah Yankees benefit but wow what a bad call
On a side note have to admit arod's been playing better then expected considering the time he's been out
Granted a handful of AB's but he is batting .259/.333/.407 while playing statuesque 3rd base.....about as bad as I thought he would be playing, thing is the others playing 3rd before him were so much worse than him, that it makes him look like the old him....
Gardner-Suzuki-Cano-Arod-Granderson-Sorianio does look a lot better lineup then a couple of weeks ago. And just like that its 4-0
Hey Cash, good think you got Vetoed. wow what a two games Soriano is having. 13 RBIS, 7 today, 4 home runs.
I'd like to point out its two games... Many thought the Wells trade was great in April. Not so much now.
I know there is like zero chance Yankees make the playoffs but lets say they do, how funny would it be if the Yankees win the World Series, and Arod is MVP. Bud will present the MVP trophy to Arod would be amazing!
