I guess I don't understand how the insurance would kick in at 80% of the rest of his contract if he continues to play in 2014 etc but doesn't play at all in 2013. Doesn't make any sense to me, then again I'm no expert on the matter.

And yes Wilson is having a pretty good year.

This trade is fine, nothing eye popping, probably hoping to get some of that same magic that Ichiro had his first two months as a Yankee. Maybe that will spark others and carry them till they get the other strike out king back (grandy). But the outfield of Soriano, Gardner and Ichiro for next year is kind of depressing. I hope they trade Phil for a nice haul or at least something useful ( i have no confidence in Cashman at all at this point). Joba should get them at least a box of bats. It's actually amazing to me that the Yankees are only 2.5 off the WC at this point.

If the Yankees starting OF heading into 2014 is Soriano, Gardner and Ichiro then the Yankees probably had another bad offseason. I agree the Soriano move was ok for 2013, they're in the middle of a playoff spot and badly need RHH power. They got him cheap and who knows maybe he can give them a spark. At the very least he can put up numbers similar to Wells.

I don't see them trading Hughes though, it's not like they have crazy SPing depth in case something happens or someone that is an obvious replacement/upgrade.

i think they might as well trade him and get something useful for him, i dont think they are going to re-sign him. Let Nova and Phelps pitch. Plus, you have Pineda to slot in as a 5th starter if needed. Also, Nuno and J-ram.

Anyone else think C.C. has some type of arm injury? Not being able to hit his spots, his velocity isnt good. Maybe he needs to go back to being FAT CC

I was thinking that too. Something's wrong. Sad the game is over as fast as it started.

Yankees jerseys are the worst to get of a player you like and is not good enough to be retired under that player. My brothers Tino jersey is now a cano jersey. My roger Clemens jersey became a cano jersey and now is a Vernon wells jersey and my Soriano jersey became a wells jersey and now is back a Soriano jersey. Glad my Bernie jersey will never change. Good thing my MO jersey has the all star/last year of stadium patch or it just be a Jackie Robinson day jersey

He's got a ton of mileage on his arm, could just be the start of his decline too.

So apparently Brian Cashman was against bringing back Soriano, but who overruled by ownership. Interesting....

That's a problem. Cashman is great at his job, let him do it. and i have beef with cashman for the way he handle the Bernie situation. Never forgive him for that. I also think he handled the arod situation poorly, but he's good at building up a team. I hate the Steinbrenner kids. Running this franchise to the ground.i bet cashman can't wait to leave

Soriano with a HUGE day for the yanks! Nice win by the yanks, Mo gets the W and hopefully this sparks them! I will say going to the ninth hearing it was Gardner-Jeter-Cano-Soriano sounded refreshing then if it was Nunez-Wells-overbay-Hafner.

Congrats to Derek Jeter for making it through his first game of 2013 without hurting himself.

(Yes I rooted for the Yankees today. Yes I feel dirty. Shower time.)

For anyone thinking Phil Hughes might have some trade value, I forgot who tweeted it but apparently there were zero scouts at the Yankee game yesterday to watch him. Which might be a good thing considering how he pitched.

With a few days left I do think the Yankees move Joba but other than that I don't see them doing anything else.

Yeah I don't think Hughes has a lot of value as he's a free agent after the year without a pick attached to him. He's a 4/5 starter having an ok (at best) year.

Thing is he would be dumb to take a 1yr/13 arbit offer from the Yanks, he will probably get a low mutli-year deal from somebody....you see the money shelled out on avg pitching last free agency?

Yeah I could see him getting a 4 year 50 million dollar deal this winter.

It's a shame I wasn't a (good) pitcher, specifically a LHPer, or even a catcher. Maybe in another life.....

So now, Selig is letting it leak out that he will suspend him under the CBA not the Drug Program thus negating any appeal.....

    http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/b...commish-power-article-1.1412251#ixzz2aWxAAvrI

Who knows if this will work, what would happen if he did do that, there has to be a way to appeal this but it is all very confusing......

I will say if you are A-Rod (THIS IS ALL HYPOTHETICAL) and the evidence they have against you is beyond sound, facing a lifetime ban without a way to appeal it, why wouldn't you just take the deal?? Won't play until 2015 but you keep 60M....If it is about saving his legacy then I think he is being dumb as he is never going to the HoF, not getting the HR record, I would think a large majority of people think he used PED's.....

At this point there is only money left......why not try and save whatever you have left?

Right but again he can go the Carl Pavano route, do the "rehab" thing for 3 years after that and collect 60M dollars...as opposed to losing all the money??
