What do you mean what a drop off?

He's having a pretty good season numbers wise, nothing that would really concern me right now as a 20 year old catcher in high A. He was ranked the 36th best prospect by MLB.com before the season started and 57th on BA.

Oh ok, yeah the Yankees really haven't developed a quality MLB level player since Gardner, Hughes and Joba in 2007/08ish.

To be fair with the Yankees on trading Austin Jackson, the Tigers' hitting coach worked a lot with him on changing his swing and approach at the plate. Perhaps he wouldn't be the same player in NY offensively without that help.

What is everyones UNBIASED thoughts on whether they will get suspended or not? The reason I said unbiased is because I know some of you WANT ARod to get suspended. But do you really believe they will?

Do you guys really believe the strongest union in sports, would allow these guys to be suspended without a positive test??

I think it's a joke they're going after these guys because it's an obvious witch hunt, and I actually do think these players will be suspended. It seems like Selig wants this to be his big exit and he "cleaned up baseball".

I knew the Yankees offense was bad kind of surprised to see them have a negative run differential.

Anyone else wish they hit more home runs now?

Come on, that offense isn't representative of what it should be...they would be hitting plenty if they had their guys there....

I said before the season I thought the Yankees would finish last. And when they were on that tear and I even came into this thread and said they would fall hard back to earth. It doesn't surprise me one bit.

    Ugh you buzzkill!!! hahaha

    My unbiased is this.....

They will get suspended because the Commissioner can do whatever he wants in theory, of course the they will counter and appeal.....and I do honestly think if MLB doesn't have anything really concrete on them they will won't be suspended in the end....

However.....2 questions I have.....because really this is new and uncharted territory the league is trying....

    1) Are they going to be suspended during the appeals process and how long is that going to take?

    2) What exactly do they have? I think Selig even though he is old, dumb and senile has people who would tell him that he cant simply suspend people on basically hearsay, which is basically all this is without some real proof. I remember when the Hernandez thing broke everybody was skeptical if he would even be held without bail.....the cops didnt have anything because they weren't releasing it to the media when the media demanded....then the arraignment happened and we were all like "yeahhhhhh that cat is doing life"....Samething here you just have to wait and see what these guys as concrete evidence......

All I do know is that baseball loses all the time in arbitration and in the courts so the players are going to win most likely.....

    Biased...I think A-Rod should be deported.....

If they had Tex, and Granderson they would be hitting home runs....Jeter would be hitting better than anybody they had at SS....and who know what would have happened with A-Rod, but even though he sucks who have hit better than Adams....that couple with the pitching they are getting and seeing how close they are even with the other teams in the Division playing like they have, not sure how that is possible.....I always said this year (if they stick to that 189 plan) would be the last year they actually compete for a while....

That would mean at the end of this year they would lose very valuable people and dont replace them right away...

Obviously with a healthy Teixeira, Granderson, Jeter and Arod they would have scored more runs and hit more HRs. I was just surprised to see they had a negative run differential.

And I also think it's funny how people wanted the Yankees to hit less HRs and go with more small ball. Well those people got their wish, how's it working out for them right now?

    Still like Overbay over Teixeira?

Oh stop lying, you totally thought Vernon Wells was going to continue to put up his April numbers.... Everyone did, me included!

Seriously though, the Yankee pitching has been pretty good all year, if they didn't have that they would have fallen harder and faster.

Still with all of their issues they're 2.5 games out of a wild card spot, again just goes to show you how important pitching is.

I was one of those people Fink if they had the opening day line-up as it was supposed to be....and not that it was small ball but less reliance on the HR to score runs.....HR's are a nice bonus when they come, but I would much rather see a consistent single, doubles hitting team like the Sox (last night not included ahahah) per se than a HR mashing club....It is a failed philosophy and the Yankees proved that for a few years recently....

yes LO of Tex bro....Tex was hitting .180.....

Your not taking into account your record as it is, is highly based on Vernon Wells insane start, Youks great start, and Overbays solid start. Your looking at your current record and how everyone is hitting and saying "well look how much better we could be", it doesnt work like that.

They are falling also because of their pitching. Pettitte, Hughes, and Phelps have not been good after their good starts. Nova has actually pitched decent since returning. We will see if he can continue or get better.

Their pitching has been fine...Nappy just stop with that......their starters and bullpen rank in the top half of baseball stats wise....mind you in a mofo of a hitting Division....in the end if they fall out of contention they will call up kids and their numbers will get skewed....

The main reason they are falling is because as you guys pointed out is the hitting...which has been plagued by injury.....Wells hit .300 for a month, Youk never hit well, and LO has hit at a .240-.250 clip for the season.....these aren't insane numbers Nappy (Hafner is the guy I think you are thinking of), it is July now, the "hot start" was A) short (1st month exactly) and B) not what you guys think it was...those guys are actually hitting better now then in the beginning of the season ironically....the everyday regulars would have duplicated what they did and some....

    April-
    Wells .300/.366/.544
    Youk ..266/.347/.422
    LO--.241/.266/.446

    May--
    Wells .221/.250/.365
    Youk .250/.250/.250
    LO--.253/.308/.474

    June--
    Wells .133/.143/.147
    Youk .135/.238/.216
    LO .219/.254/.359

so they went from avg (one guy for one month) to putrid....but YET with the season more than halfway over are 2.5 out of a WC....with a negative run diff....why?

And dont get me wrong I WANT to see this team drop like a fly and get the better pick, we aren't kidding anybody they aren't winning crap this year....

    Just enjoying Mo.....

I don't think they get suspended because there is no failed drug test. I think the union can successfully defend these guys. Idk the evidence but it sounds like a lot of he said she said

Maybe a sense of panic too Fink, they are 6 out and time is getting short to either crap or get off the pot..if they say lose 2-3 game in the Division that is 10 games out and just basically kiss the Division goodbye....

Jeter just brings a sense of leadership that maybe they want to see if it gets them going a little?

Damn never would have thought BDH to be the fairweather type of poster....would love to hear what he has to say right now....

Just depends on how bad the evidence is JT....thats is it in a nutshell, if it is hearsay they will be playing by next week...

A-Rod even got a hit today in High A, batting .189 now...

I honestly don't think he really gives a **** about anything but coming back to get the rest of his contract guaranteed...he isnt ready yet it is obvious, he is batting .189 in 12 at bats in Single A ball....but he wants and says he can come back now?? Why? The team? BS, there is only one reason why he wants to be back..... Loot....

I love you bro you are an eternal optimist but dont be fooled here with this guy, totally self interested....

He wants to get back before he gets suspended to get that jack, it is literally a race to see what comes first and should be interesting as well....why if he knows it is all hearsay why is he in a rush to get back if he knows it will over turned? Or does he know he has something out there that is real damaging?? Got to give the guy credit though, if you want to be rich many times you have to be an a-hole and he is going to get boo'd if he comes back early and tanks or gets suspended and it is bad as well....

    All for that green..

I thought he gets the money regardless?

If not Yankees won't get him back regardless until the investigation is over. Even of he was 12-12 with 12 home runs

Was listening to Feinstein in the 5th inning of the game yesterday at work and he said that Girardi and A-Rod talk everyday and that Alex admitted to Joe he isnt where he wants to be but that it was a good day (yesterday) and he felt better.....

However he did say Jeter is ready and wants to go saying "he would drive a car to NY from Scranton himself".......

You mean while suspended? If he gets suspend I believe he doesnt actually, I think Fink or Nappy may know better.....

I am talking overall, if he misses the entire season then it kicks in the insurance portion of his contract that pays the year off and then it gets technical and unclear....I believe the insurance going forward will play for the years ahead....A-Rod doesnt want that obviously he wants the team to pay it not insurance....
