Again though there was no way the Yankees should or would have made that deal because at the time they were in 1st place. You can't trade your #1 pitcher and starting 3B in the middle of the year. The ownership wouldn't have allowed it nor would I think the front office would have done it.

They wanted a power hitting 1b not Arod. They probably would have taken CC and Teix but Teix has a no trade clause and woouldnt leave.

I would have made that deal immediately because you had to know as a GM your team wasn't winning the WS that year.

Why would they want A-Rod when they had Hanley at third?

Strange every article of the time suggested they wanted a power hitting 1b....... They couldnt all be wrong. And like another poster mentioned why have Arod when you have Hanley?

No I think you're right and it was a mistake on my part. It was Tex not Arod, although they probably would have taken Arod too if the Yankees asked nicely and moved Hanley back to SS.

Oh come on. You would have been fired immediately because of it too. The Yankees had the best record in the AL last year (3rd best record overall). You can't trade your best SPer in the middle of August and a starting 1B when you're on your way to the playoffs. The Red Sox were able to punt the season because there was zero chance they would have made the playoffs. There was no way on earth anyone would have made that deal. You can't kill Cashman or the Yankee ownership for saying no, it would have been so damaging to their franchise and simply plain dumb to do.

Arod is officially cleared to play in minor league games. His 20 day rehab assignment would end the day after the Yankees play the Sox in Boston, so you'd think he'll probably debut sometime during that series.

Either way, looks like those foolish "Arod is going to retire" stories were wrong to the shock and surprise or no one.

The tough 18 game schedule just ended and the Yankees went 5 and 13. They close out the 1st half with 7 games against the Twins, 3 against Baltimore and 3 against KC. But things aren't looking great right now as their offense has been pretty pathetic outside of Cano and Gardner. So perhaps getting Arod back might not be a bad option at this point.

Of course Jeff Francoeur was just DFA'ed could he be any worse than Vernon Wells?

But yet only 4 games out, seriously get with it here Boston and put them away......I personally would like to see them out of it, I am talking the Dolphins approach to it, just tank and get the better pick...bring some kids up and just enjoy Rivera....this team isn't winning anything this year, not even close...so build for the future....

Well they're 6 games out of first in the AL east, only 4 back in the WC but I think their record is a bit misleading due to how well they played at the beginning of the year.

I'd actually be surprised whether they're in the race or not if Joba was on the Yankees by September 1st. I just think the team has zero interest in re-signing him and obviously won't tender him a contract at the end of the year and risk having to pay him 13 million. Plus the Yankees are plain old tired of him, especially after the incident he had with Rivera earlier in the year.

Maybe a C level prospect. I can't see them getting much more for him due to him being a FA at the end of the year and his poor performance so far this year.

which is fine because again, didn't expect anything....The only thing I will say is he does have a mid-90's fastball.....but then again so does Daniel Bard....

I'd trade Daniel Bard for Joba Chamberlain right now. Joba is having a tough year but he still has potential coming out of the pen. He's not a trainwreck that has no clue if he's going to throw a strike or not.

Hey I need something to cheer about with this team so shut up everyone! Let me enjoy a Rivera save! It's funny but I am glad the yanks made it a save opportunity. I already accepted the Yankees are not making the playoffs like this so any game Rivera can get a save to add to his stats is fine by me! Also the twins gift was the best by far (rocking chair made from broken bats) these organizations are very classy!

I am taken in these games with Mo. Sure going to miss him. Grew up watching him, and it's cool to say I followed his whole career. A true legend!

One thing you can count on is no matter how good/bad the Twins are and no matter how good/bad the Yankees are in the end the Yankees will always win.

Yeah that was a great gift. Major props for them to think of something like that.

My only question would be: do you think Rivera has the rocking chair shipped back to his house now or will he travel with it all year so him, Pettitte and Jeter can take turns using it to nap after their 4:15 dinner. (Yes I made an old person joke).

Mo does it again. 28 saves! If he stays healthy there's a chance he can get 50 saves this year. That would be something! Now of the Yankees give him the opportunity to get saves is the bigger question

Can't wait for the twins to come to Yankee stadium next week! Big games coming up against Balt, I'd like to enter all star break 5 games back at worst. Sox are on fire. Hope the break cools them off

Nova was electric last night, that type of performance is what we hope we get out of him but he is just to inconsistent....he had the clock at 96, even in the 9th it was at 94.....all his off speed stuff had massive movement as well...

Big win for us! The Red Sox blowing it tonight really was the cherry on top for this week! loved it! Game was over, make the throw to 2nd and you avoid a comeback.
