    SD is down to Fuentes..

I'd read there were concerns that his motion would/could lead to this happening.

Well that Rizzo trade to the Cubs was pretty foolish. Of course someone can certainly make the case that trading for Gonzalez was a bad move from a Red Sox standpoint.

Hopefully Kelly's surgery went well, along with his rehab, he should be back on the mound next spring. It's not like gone from the organization, he's just missing the year. Obviously not calling you a liar but I've never read anything from BA, BP or Law that had concerns about his motion. It was a pretty smooth delivery with not a lot of jerky movements or anything like that. Where did you see or read that from?

No it wasnt, they thought they were getting pre-wrist injury A-Gone, who wouldn't whine about traveling after Sunday night games, blaming Fenway Park.....

That deal was as it stands now, A-Gone for Rizzo....

Pre-shoulder injury but yeah, I have to say I was a bit surprised at Gonzalez's maybe not character but lack of leadership skills while in Boston. By all accounts he was a leader and a good guy in San Diego and while he certainly was a good guy in Boston, he was just out of place I guess and did complain a lot.

Why is the deal now Gonzalez (and Eric Patterson can't forget about him) for Rizzo? Because Fuentes hasn't made it to the MLB yet and Kelly got hurt?

Pretty good start for the Sox so far. I really like the bullpen this year, although Hanrahan needs to settle down.

Yeah I don't think I will ever feel comfortable with him on the mound during a save situation.

Last night's loss stung. Sox had it in the bag, about to win 3 straight series from AL East teams. Ugh. Sox bullpen is very good the only problem is if the SP only goes 5 and it's all hands on deck with Koji, Tazawa and Bailey there's no good RHRP there to back up Hanrahan in case things get ugly like last night.

Oh well, win the game tonight and all will be well again.

Thank god the sell out streak is over, simply for the sake of people won't talk about it anymore. I really don't understand why the need for every media member to report on it and think anyone (besides the people making money because of it i.e. the owners) especially the fans would care.

I'd much rather talk about things going on on the field.

Totally agree that was brutal. I now believe Hanrahan won't be closer by the end of the year, Bailey may slide in a couple of weeks.

You never know, I actually like Bailey in the role he's in now but I can say the same thing for Tazawa and Koji too. I think the team is at it's best if Hanrahan is the closer, of course that means he has to pitch well. He just sometimes completely losses command and that's when he gets in trouble because hitters will lay off the slider and sit dead red on his fastball like Manny did last night. Of course the ump squeezing him twice hurt too but he shouldn't have put himself in that position in the first place.

I had, it doesn't particularly matter now though.

Thing is, that TJ surgery also means one less yr of work before FA.

Well you could possibly blame the current Padres FO on that one then, he probably should have gotten it last year but instead they choose to rehab him in hopes the injury would heal itself then they decided to give him a cup of coffee in September.

The umps in the Boston/Baltimore series were pretty bad especially with ball/strike calls. What was a strike in inning 1 wasn't in inning 2 but was in inning 3 etc. There was just no consistency. I think I counted 6 pitches that were called wrong in the 9th inning in the past 2 days that benefited Baltimore, obviously not blaming the umps for losing the series because the Sox didn't get any key hits.

Hanrahan throws a fastball and slider, Papelbon was more of a fastball and splitter pitcher that would mix in a slider from time to time.

He just throws too many pitches per hitter. And the balls he throws are usually so far out of the zone not even Jeff Francoeur would swing at them.

Haha, good thing the Sox didn't trade him in the offseason huh? The Sox are saying Hanrahan has been dealing with a hamstring issue since the 2nd game of the season but he didn't tell Farrell until yesterday. I hope that's the truth and not some excuse because that would at least explain his total lack of command.

Nice work by the Sox to complete th 3 game sweep of TB. 8-4 to start the year and heading to Cleveland next. Dempster pitched another good game, Sox starters have a combined ERA below 2 to start the year. It's too bad Bailey got the BS in his 1st closer outing as he's been throwing the ball well all year and he threw fine today too, nice to see him settle down after the tying run scored and a runner on 2nd with 0 outs to K the next 2.

Man that loss to Baltimore in the 2nd game still bugs me.... but the sweep today helps a little. Just got to win series.

Even though TB is 4-8, I'm in no way writing them off.

I love it when a team rushes a good prospect after a great ST. Yeah, those 60 at-bats sure are representative and meaningful.

Yes JBJ will be sent down once Ortiz comes back. He has to stay down in the minors for 20 days for the Sox to get the extra year of service time. I think that was always the plan unless he got off to an unreal start.

I don't think the Sox overreacted to his ST stats, I think he made the team because a spot opened up once Ortiz wasn't going to be healthy for opening day. He clearly wasn't ready and I think the FO knew that, I think they were hoping he would play very good defense (which he did) and get on base (he did a pretty decent job of that). But as long as he stays down for those 20 days and the Sox keep the extra year of service time no harm or foul.

Ortiz didn't play yesterday due to mild soreness in his left heel. No word if that will push his return date of Friday back or not.
