  1. He is guilty of having an u popular opinion and you guys are celebrating him having his personal property seized. He is a racist but he isn't guilty of doing anything.

Stop it, just stop it. He is guilty of a lot of things. One of those things is housing discrimination which went to trial and he LOST.

For a pro-business cheerleader, he clearly doesn't understand franchisee obligations. If you don't live up to the standards set by the franchisor, you lose your right to operate a franchise.

He isn't having personal property seized. The owners will vote him out and if it succeeds in court, they'll force a sale, and he'll get the proceeds. If it's legal, and part of the contract he entered into with the league, it's legit. I don't agree with the strong handed tactics but that's the contract he has entered into.

He paid 15 to 20 Million for the Franchise and is now gonna get ONE BILLION.

If you want..you can seize everything I have as long as you give me a $980,000,000.00 Profit.

    This is getting past stupid.

A private enterprise has the right to remove a person from their franchise. Especially if that person can hurt the brand. A brand, i might add, that happens to be huge with the race of people he just insulted. He's been given a NUMBER of chances by the NBA. He couldn't stop hurting their brand. Stop acting like being paid a billion effing dollars is persecution.

Jay-Z was a minority owner that owned less than .05%. He sold his shares because the NBA told him he could not own any part of a franchise while having an association with a Agency (CAA)

  14. And all I said is that its an overreaction to what the guy said. They are making an example of him and what happens to you if you do not fall into line with progressivism.

I dont like the guy or what he said, maybe seieze was an overstatment on my part but the guy is being forced to sell his property for no other reason than some people do not like him. I dont know the details of his contract and maybe the owners can vote him out without an explination needed.

They however are beating their drums like this is some great blow across the bow of racism and parading around like its some great moral victory that we should all be celebrating and thats nowhere close to what it is.

Sure..that is all he did. Don't be stupid.

    His Housing Discrimination Practices.....KILLED PEOPLE.

Let me repeat that for emphasis.....KILLED PEOPLE.

He is in essence...EVIL. and I believe that any league should seek to not associate with people like him.

He has NO RIGHT to own a NBA franchise. He is getting the largest RETURN on his dollar in the History of PRO SPORTS for his trouble.

So that should make you happy at least.

The owners are voting him out with the consent of the bylaws of the NBA and consistent with the NBA's constitution. Nothing more democratic than that.

he broke a contract. he must pay the consequence. His penalty will be cashing a check for a Billion Dollars.

You're kidding yourself if you think a housing lawsuit from years ago has anything to do with him getting banned from the NBA this week. He apparently didn't let his private racist opinions impact his job as the owner of the Clippers...He hired more black head coaches than most teams in the NBA.

This guy is getting banned because of some terrible basketball-related stuff he said in private while someone was secretly recording it. That's the extent of the cause here.

  18. So go after him for those things but dont tell me he is being forced cause of the reason they gave us. Killing people is a crime. The reason they gave is that he is an uncouth person. Thats not good enough and if it is than you better be consistent and hold everyone to the same standards. This is a bad precedent being set and one that all who are celebrating it may come to regret.

He agreed to put his property in the hands of his business partners. This is how partnerships operate. And nobody is seizing his property. They are telling him to liquidate.

    Pay attention.

The NBA is taking this stance because he hurt their brand. They have the right to do that. He had the right to not accept the terms of his contract.

Do you hate freedom that much, that you'd take away the right of people and entities to enter into contracts?

The NBA is not the government. They don't have to be fair, they just have to uphold their end of the contract. It is entirely up to them to hold one person accountable for breaking the rules of the contract and not someone else for breaking their contract. Your concept of "fairness" is especially stupid and childish when you consider the end result of your argument is that contracts (that people willingly enter) are "unfair". that's what you're arguing. You're arguing that regardless of what contract someone filled out, they shouldn't have to be held responsible for it.

And yet those customers weren't offended enough to act when non-basketball crimes were happening. This is just a fact.

People are spinning this as if it's some long-built reputation of racism that finally buried him. Which just isn't true at all. No one cared until he mentioned Magic Johnson. If he hadn't illegally discriminated against tenants in the past, he still would've been banned today for the things he said in private.

What part about hurting the brand are you not getting? Jesus man. He very likely has a clause in his contract that calls for this specifically if he hurts the brand. Insulting the majority of the players and much of the customer base is absolutely hurting the brand.

You're basically saying Person X shouldn't be arrested for shooting someone to death because all he did was move his finger a inch when pulling the trigger.

While I understand this topic is big news for the NBA right now, this thread is quickly turning into the POFO. Can we please take it somewhere else, like the POFO, especially if it's going to become another FinD-Shula pissing match.

The standard is 75% of NBA owners voting for it. There is nothing bad about this precedent, because it is based on the principles, rules, and process every owner established and agreed upon.
