Understood and agreed. But you can do all that while maintaining a clean or relatively clean cap sheet for 2016

That's the one where he will share ownership with the RedSox co owner? Same person who sold him his share of Liverpool?

Section, gun to your head, who would you predict the Heat end up with in FA? Or are we going to have to wait until tomorrow to find out more info?

Right. Let's do what we can within reason, be patient, win one or two championships the next two years and then get ready for Phase II of this Heat Era.

If Knicks fans can step away from the ledge and put down the cyanide pills down for a second..think of this:

You had an injured team last year and still were 11th in Off. Eff.

You improved your shooting/PG play so far this offseason already. You can use your exceptions to improve your perimeter defense.

If you can bring up your Off Eff. from 105 pts. per 100 poss. to somewhere around 108. It will place you in the top 5.

If there is one thing Phil Jackson's triangle does is improve offensive efficiency.

If this happens....you are a 4 or 5 seed in the East, and you clear the dead weight the following offseason. Add Kevin Love, one smart acquisition for around 8-10 Million a year.....contend.

While it's funny to point it out, there's really no reason for Houston to not use the number 7 in their photoshop of Carmelo in a Houston uniform.

They know that the only way they can get Melo is by dumping Lin onto someone. Melo knows it too. Everyone knows that Carmelo Anthony and Jeremy Lin don't exist on the same Houston Rockets team in 2014-15. Melo prefers the number 7 and the Rockets have no reason to step in the way of his idea that he'll definitely get the number 7 if he signs.

Some really don't want him to get the number 7 in Chicago as they believe Tony Kukoc should have the number retired. I thought I heard mention that some want the Lakers to retire Lamar Odom's number 7 jersey.

One reason Houston should be considered the favorite outside a return to the Knicks is Dwight Howard is emphatic in his desire to bring Carmelo there and has been scrambling to find his contact information to try and help make the pitch. In Chicago, Derrick Rose had to be roped into helping make the pitch. Kobe Bryant is also pretty passionate about adding Carmelo. But it's tough to tell if the Lakers are as serious an option as the Bulls, Rockets and Mavs.

Morey is one of the more annoying figures in the NBA.

Lots of publicity for accomplishing slightly more than jack squat. One second round appearance in 7 years, and for all his analytics expertise he simply decided to become Pat Riley and build a team of stars (an approach he sneered at by the way in 2010)

This is the NBA Franchise Hierarchy as of now Adjusted since 1988:

    1. Lakers
    2. Spurs
    3. Bulls
    4. Heat
    5. Pistons

    Learn to live with it.

I think I speak for all Lakers fans when I say that we don't care or want Lamar's number retired.

The big debate will be on Pau Gasol whenever he retires and what L.A. Does or doesn't do.

    Do you love Deng?

I was getting some negative feedback on twitter, accusations that he's just an average or even below-average shooter, not good from behind the arc, etc. Personally I think he's got great defense, high basketball IQ, would probably become the second-best passer on the Heat the moment he suits up, and I think he's a pretty compelling athlete if healthy. I also think he's a great shooter from the floor and very clutch.

I think the Mavs are legit contenders in the Melo sweepstakes. I think I might edge them ahead of Houston behind the Knicks

Not what I want to hear but it's definitely possible. Supposedly their presentation this afternoon is going to be pretty meat and potatoes in that it's going to be all about winning. That's their advantage. They took it hard to the best team in basketball during the playoffs. They gave the Spurs a better run than the Heat did.

All of which why I slightly prefer the Mavs. If it's really all about winning I think Carmelo on the Mavs is better than Carmelo on the Rockets. Also all the rah rah Rockets stuff strikes me as slightly crazy stalker girlfriendish.

Fortunately for you and your bet my opinion doesn't mean a fart in the wind!

No chance Melo goes to the Mavs.

According to Phil Jackson himself, Melo was advised of the Chandler/Felton trade and registered his approval, or at least he didn't fight for those guys to stay.

Frank Isola also reported that there were issues between those guys and Melo particularly when Chandler showed up out of shape and out of shape is essentially Felton's middle name.

No way is he going to Dallas to play with those guys that he was happy to be rid of.

He isn't aware that Pat Riley has built and rebuilt the Heat 5 times now, each time with the team becoming a contender.

    Exactly.

Even if the absolute worst happened this summer, I have no doubt that in 2 years we'd be contenders again

You could have asked him about video games and how the Heat would win between 42-45 games with the Big 3 (that was his pitch to Bosh as I'm sure you recall)
