after watching the knicks play this series they just seem happy to be in the second round pretty sad effort honesty
Melo's pick and roll defense has been embarrassing. He also helped cultivate this offense that is imploding.
After Melo, there are too many hot n cold shooters. Smith looked totally frustrated and I don't understand why Goodson does not play Novak more....
The effort isnt embarrassing but the lack of made shots is. As is the coaching. Just telling it like it is. I know I can be a bit of a Knicks homer at time and I definitely hate on certain times but Im as critical of my own team when they deserved it. Like now. If Melo's pick and roll defense is what the problem then what am I watching on offense? Their defense has been pretty good. 82 points last game, 91 this game (much of it from George Hill). Their rebounding is whats embarrassing. Their shooting is embarrassing. Their coaching is embarrassing. Their inability to get to the foul line is embarrassing. There are so many things embarrassing about the way they have played three of the last 4 games games and you pick out Carmelo's pick and roll defense when Indy is KILLING the Knicks on the boards on shutting down their offense? The reason Novak isnt playing more is because Indiana guards the 3 better then anyone in the league and the only value Novak has is...say it with me....shooting 3's. Copeland and Stoudemire are the guys that should be playing more. Stoudemire might be playing more if he would shut up and stay out of foul trouble. And how a guy who cant box out got 1st team all nba defense is something I cant answer. Looking at you Tyson Chandler. If the Knicks want to win the next two games and get this to a 7th game you start the following lineup: PG: Felton SG: Shumpert SF: Anthony PF: Amare C: Tyson Bench: Copeland, Smith, Prigioni, Martin. No one else deserves to play. And Id be very careful with how many minutes I played Chandler. Im more inclined to use Stoudemire-Anthony-Copeland on my front line for stretches even though its a small lineup because the Pacers go through droughts. Catch them at the right time and make them play from behind and watch them struggle. When they play from in front theyre a very good team.
When the Pacers shoot 30 FTs, your defense isn't playing well. Carmelo let guys into the lane routinely.
There is no movement on this team, I have zero problem with the way Melo has played this series save one game. JR becomes a problem because he shoots MORE when he's off. This team isn't loaded with scoring options outside of those two. Shumpert was horrible also tonight.
hate to break it to you but getting out rebounded by 20 is effort no team is 20 rebounds better than another team
He doesn't play inside 8 feet anyways so why not. And they are eating up everything else so screw it.
Jackson knows how to make players do things they aren't accustomed to. His offense would also be the one most likely to make Carmelo be a better passer. It most likely wouldn't be good enough for a championship, but still his best shot. What do you propose???
LOL. That would mean Carmelo is taking half as many shots as he is now. Would also mean he would have to move without the ball.
Absolutely not. Who else is taking those shots? Tyson Chandler is going to create his own shot? Jason Kidd who hasnt had a basket in 8 games? Kenyon Martin? They HAVE to shoot. Its just like the 90's Knicks. 1 legit offensive option and a whole bunch of streak players around that option. Carmelo Anthony can watch a tape of Ewings career pre-Allan Houston/Latrell Sprewell and see his own career as a Knick to this point. Except these Knicks at least TRIED with Amare. Hes just been hurt and committing fouls. Actually if you watched the game a lot of those FT's were on lose ball fouls or fouls after the pacers got offensive rebounds. The Knicks have been getting outrebounded much of the year. Every game vs the Bulls, Pacers and Grizzlies...i.e tall, good, physical teams they get destroyed on the glass. Outrebounded every one of those games except 1 I think. I see you trollin', Im hatin', Actually if they have Paul, Melo HAS to defer. The PG handles the ball. Thats part of why he recruited Paul at his wedding 3 years ago. We'll see if it comes to fruition but CP3 and Phil Jackson are exactly what Melo needs. Tyson can go (+another player...maybe Novak) and it works cap wise. Find a C and a way to fill out the roster...
Youre missing the points...both of them. 1. In order to get transition opportunities you have to have guys that rebound. Which Martin and Chandler are not doing. Chandler is averaging 4 rebounds before tonight for this series. How can you run when the other team is killing you on the glass? 2. Who else is going to shoot? Amare is playing his way back in to shape and the only other legitimate consistent option on this team. Its GOT to be the same 2-3 guys...Melo-Smith-Felton. No one else really CAN contribute offensively.
The Knicks are built to be a 3 point team. When other things you're trying are not working you have to play to your strengths to see what happens, and especially when you're losing. JR Smith and Shumpert were tossing up 3's like they were going out of style so apparently they didn't get the message that the Pacers defend the 3 better than any team. They went 3 for what..16? Novak's first attempt wemt right in. He should play more. Not play all the time. He CAN provide a spark and he can take an occassional foul away from others. But hey, I don't mind...
Play novak, have felton initiate, Knicks have a pure scorer, a good p&r pg, a streak scorer, a high post scorer, and three point specialists. They do not lack offensive talent.
