Lowe throws 6 perfect freames against the Braves as well. Nice work and we got the win to put us back into first place.

I wish we could face the Braves everyday. Even the anemic bat of Andruw Jones got an RBI.

Easy there killer. You guys scored 8 runs in 3 games.

Thats what kills me about the Braves right now is that we are so inconsistent. How you score 9 runs in the middle of being nearly no-hit (or not having a base runner at all) the other 2 games is a total head scratcher.

Uhm have you seen the Dodgers play? 8 runs in three games has actually IMPROVED our runs per game...

    Trade Proposal:

Last year's MVP Ryan Howard of Philly for Matt Kemp, Russell Martin, and either Lowe or Billingsley?

    Deal????

  6. Samphin

Samphin Κακό σκυλί ψόφο δεν έχει

Interesting. But considering that Howard is batting in the .230's and his power numbers would almost assuredly go down playing in L.A., I would have to say no to that proposal.

As I type this, Martin just went yard. Martin is untouchable, as is Billingsley.

I would counter with Ryan Howard for James Loney (1B), Derek Lowe (SP), and Jon Broxton (CL) OR Matt Kemp (OF)

I think I've had enough of home run hitters with low batting averages. Dodger Stadium is a pitcher's park and frankly, BA is just as important as HR's. We already have low BA, high HR hitter Andruw Jones anyways and look how he fared. I'd take Kemp and Martin over Howard any day much less with ace Billingsley or Lowe.

Wow, Brian Falkenborg should never see the pitching mound at Dodger Stadium again. Ever.

He better pray that L.A. can get it back in the bottom of the 11th, but I doubt it with this anemic bunch.

Interesting note though. If this games ends here in the 11th (Florida is up by one), it will mean that all five games that went into extra innings tonight, ended in the 11th, with four of the five winning teams being the road team.

I can't believe they are paying Andruw Jones this much money so that he can strike out five times in a game. a this point, Ned should just cut hi, eat the salary and admit defeat.

Thank god it was only a two year deal.

Superb effort by Billingsley. Good way to head into the All Star break. Unfortunately, though Jones got an RBI, he's still hitless...

Although, it should be pointed out that we STILL took 2 of 3 against your team and almost threw two perfect games in there to boot.

Fun game from an offensive standpoint. Rare for the Dodgers to hit four homeruns in a game. Nomar with two and five rbis and what do you know? The Dodgers are back in first place.

Benefit of a weak division I guess. I think it's rare for the Dodgers to hit 4 HR's in 40 games...

Great comeback win against the Douchebacks. Only thing I regret is that we didn't pile on 5 runs on Webb. 5 runs on Lyon is going to kill my fantasy team's ERA...

I was going to say Juan Pierre was worse, but no, upon looking at the numbers, Jones is definitely a worse signing thus far. Someone should probably keep Ned Colleti away from the checkbook when it comes time for picking up free agents; Pierre, Jones and Jason Schmidt have proven to be three of the worst free agent signings of the last decade.

true...quick question though who was the GM that drafted all of these studs that are starting to come up or are already playing(Kemp, Loney, Billingsley, Kershaw, Broxton, etc.)?

I don't know. It was before Colleti, wasn't it? I'm not a Dodgers fan, so I don't recall.

    You forgot JD Drew. :wink2:

He had his best season with us (Atl).

Only thing that urked me was we gave up Adam Wainwright to acquire him...

No to mention that GM's are bascially taking their word from scouts. A GM has less to do with selecting picks as you may think.

Its his job to factor in signability (college vs. pros) and other monetary factors if said pick is a high one.

And BTW Colleti has only been with the Dodgers since 2006. He was LA's 5th GM in the last 8 years when signed.

Most teams have a Director of Scouting. Im not sure if Colleti hired the man who currently has this position but you cant give him the credit for those players mentioned.

Infact, prior to signing with LA Coletti was the asistant GM with the teams most hated rival in SF.

EDIT: Logan White has this postion and has been there for 6 years.

Technically, Logan White was the one who greatly influenced the decision to draft those guys. Kemp, Loney, Billingsley, Martin, Ethier were all Evan/Ng/White people. And indeed, when DePoopdesta and Colletti took over, we still maintained good prospects thanks to Ng and White. Honestly, I think Ng is due for a promotion and it'd better be here.

It was before Colletti. I believe it's Dan Evans, GM from 2001-2004.

Dan Evans should be given the credit from the G.M. position. However, Logan White has really been on fire when picking draft picks over this time and deserves all of the credit. Some of our best prospects actually, aren't even playing for L.A. as they were traded for band-aids and cast offs.

Colletti comes from the Brian Sabean school of suck. The Giants, for awhile, were able to trade for quality veterans every year that helped put them in a winning position. However, eventually they were simply making trades and signings for the sake of doing something and it put them in the position they are in now.

I think Colletti has fallen into the same trap. After having to pinch the pursestrings under DePodesta, McCourt pretty much wanted to prove to the fans that he would spend money to field a team.

I think what this led to was Ned, coming into his first GM gig, almost HAVING to spend money for players who are subpar or on the downside of their careers. The smart play would have been to hold onto the money and simply let the kids play. They wold have much more wiggle room this year if they had just failed to sign Schmidt, Pierre and Jones.

Andy LaRoche and Edwin Jackson are some I remember. But I do recall we've had a good farm system for a time in the 90's. Produced guys like Piazza, Pedro Martinez, Lo Duca, Konerko, Proctor (who managed to return), Shane Victorino, etc. Even had Chase Utley but didn't sign him.

Well, it appears that Casey Blake is a Dodger. L.A. send Jon Meloan (SP in AAA, middle of the road prospect) and Carlos Santana (Class A catcher who can ROPE) to Cleveland.

Cleveland also pays all of Blake's salary for the year. Meh. Not a barn burner but I don't think either team fleeced one another either.

Eh, it's a push. Not as much pop as I'd hoped. Really hoping we could make a bigger splash to get back into the race. Honestly, we need a shortstop or someone who can hit HR's without a lousy batting average.

Mets were after Blake, great pick-up by the Dodgers. Blake has pop and is a scrappy player.

Come on down Manny. Hopefully the camaraderie with Nomar and Lowe is still there. And all it cost us was an underperforming 3B and a pitcher prospect who's not even close to Kershaw's potential.

Either way, this off season could produce so many draft picks for Dodgers you can singlehandidly rebuild your farm system in one season.
