I used to love when were were behind at the half but we didn't panic. We knew Dan could walk out on that field and lead us to victory!
Marshall had the same yards, less TDs and, like you said a similar number of drops, for both of their best years here. You're right Chambers wasn't a great WR. So what does that make Marshall?
As far as I was concerned, the Shula days were the good old days. Those came to a halt when JJ brought in the "run run run punt" mentality to this team, handcuffed Dan Marino's playcalling ability, and let players (e.g. Irving Fryar, bryan cox) get away.
Most, probably, are not old enough to remember the really good old days. i;m not sure if that is a blessing or a cirse.
I am lucky to have been a Dolphin fan since their very first game under George Wilson. I have seen the ups and the downs over the years unfortunately there are a lot more downs than ups any more. I loved the Griese, Czonka years because it actually seemed like every player on the field was an all pro and now most of those players are legends. The Marino era was just that, Marino again'st the world and you knew when he came on the field things were going to be exciting. He made the Marks brothers super stars and elevated the team around him. Other teams actually feared him and made special preparations to defend again'st him. Bill Walsh who is one of the greatest NFL coaches once said, Other quarterbacks are system quarterbacks but Dan Marino is the system. It may not be like the kind of quote you were looking for but the one that immediately came to mind was from Dan Marino when he played against the Jets and hurried up to the line of scrimmage and called out "Spike, Spike as time was running down and proceeded to throw a touchdown.
