http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/18/gta-chinatown-wars-brings-the-battle-to-iphone/ GTA China Town wars coming to the iPhone/iPod Touch. Only $10 and it's th full experience. WOW.
Misleading headline; Chinatown Wars can't possibly be the highest rated DS game of all time. No way. Not while the Ace Attorney series exists!
FOR REALS MAN!! http://www.gamerankings.com/browse.html?site=ds&cat=0&year=0&numrev=0&sort=0&letter=&search=
I haven't even heard of 3/4ths of the sites that Gamerankings indexes. ZTGameDomain? The Gamers Temple? There's no way that data is accurate! (I really just needed an excuse to post that screenshot. Carry on.)
I acquired this last night for my iPhone and I am really impressed with the power of the iPhone. GTA, Texts, and calls all in one flawlessly. The game runs perfect. As with all iphone games, the touch analog it a little suspect to get used to, but works. Good grab Apple.
Highest rated according to who? That game was pretty mediocre, IMO. The best DS game of all time is Contra 4, baby.
didnt say best... Said Highest rated. Everyone knows that ratings are half based on the popularity of the title. I thought it was a pretty well advertised fact (especial by Rockstar) that it was the highest rated DS game of all time. Still is I think. Game rankings takes an average across several media outlets... But it's a pretty universal thing. http://www.gamespot.com/games.html?...=all&date_filter=all&sortdir=asc&official=all
poor rockstar. the games good but this mad dash to get the game out on every console that they can must mean they have yet to make much money off of it. next up, psn and xbox live. couple that with Red Dead Redemption's 'doomed to fail' release coming up soon, the DLC on xbox not selling very well for GTA IV, and rockstars looking pretty sketchy these days.
If this comes out on Live or PSN, I'm getting it. I'm guessing you haven't seen the NPD sales number for this game. They are pretty terrible considering how good the game is and how much they likely put into it. If it was Super Mario: Mushroom Kingdom Wars the game would've been a blockbuster though. Too bad Rockstar can't name it whatever they want.
This is the first time I've ever seen someone claim that the GTA name isn't popular enough to guarantee sales.
And I'm sure the game would sell better on PSN or Live than DS. The GTA franchise is a great name, just not for the DS apparently, because the game is very good. The GTA name is still not as big as Mario's name though. Heck, I'd bet this game would've moved just as many units on the PSP.
Quick Googling tells me that the DS version sold 90,000 its first month and 250,000 units over its lifetime, while the PSP version debuted with sales of... 12,000.
I didn't even know it ever came out on the PSP, but I see now that it did come out 6 months after the fact. It still wouldn't have did as well on the PSP (if it was an exclusive) because the sheer # of DS' compared to PSP's, though I am sure it would've done better than 12K had it came out only for PSP.
to be honest, the name has dropped off some what. It was the biggest name in the industry 5 years ago, but Call of Duty totally snaked that title away. Not to mention Halo and God of War. chinatown wars was just a miserable experiment all around though. Rockstar deserves props for trying to sell a mature game on the DS but it just wasn't meant to be. And then they port it to the psp, the system with the lowest selling software of all. I mean, this game has been a series of unfortunate events since day 1.
I wouldn't say GTA has dropped off. Rather, Rockstar is being smart about not saturating the market with the franchise. DLC expansions to GTA4, rather than going straight to GTA5, was a nice idea. Keeps the franchise going while building off the work put into 4. Call of Duty is the biggest name right now, sure, but that doesn't mean GTA's lost anything.
For those with iPhones and iTouch's, they're ridiculous easy to hack and get free stuff for. If anyone is interested in a tutorial, I'll write one.
