Are we sure the Bears would have taken Eifert again at 20? No matter. Eifert is finally a Bear... again. Pretty telling that the Rams, who could have taken Eifert at 18, chose not to. #overrated Grade C He doesn't have elite tight end traits IMO.

Disagree. Not a big fan of the Mingo at all. Jason Taylor was more prepared to be an NFL starter than Mingo and JT was drafted in the 3rd round. @MelMcShay The ponies take BPA in Mingo. Great value there.

@glazedonut Mingo's biggest issue seems to be technique. He has elite level ability its worth taking a risk in the twenties for that kind of player.

    Peter King:

Well that was quite the commercial break we had there, I could have sworn I was sleeping for the past six hours or so and only saw two players drafted. Now that we've got some movement again I can take a moment and reflect on some of the players taken.

Cincinnati Bengals select DE Bjoern Werner, Florida State 17th Overall

The Bengals decided it wasn't in their best interest to take one of the "elite" prospects like Eric Fisher, Lane Johnson or Star Lotulelei. Instead they drop back and take a player who has quite a few questions to his game, one of the most notable is a hold and cold motor. He'll have a streak of games where he makes an impact and then he can go four or five without making any noise. Not the most naturally gifted rusher, but he is a physical presence that has a better overall combination of skills. Some consider a top ten to fifteen talent but overall it's good value with this pick and the Bengals don't have any pressing needs.

    Peter Kiper Grade: B+

St Louis Rams select WR DeAndre Hopkins, Clemson 18th Overall

Receivers are a cherished commodity in the draft and isn't more evident than when a team trades up to overdraft a player. The St Louis Rams feel set at Tight End but still needed a number one receiver after Amendola left for more money in free agency. I had Hopkins going to the Chiefs in the second round but feel Hopkins is a player that borders on a first and second round grade. There is talk of DeAndre being a one year wonder but really he's had good production during his time at Clemson. Sure he got overlooked some with Sammy Watkins at Clemson as well but Hopkins is the kind of receiver that will catch the ball in stride and produce the yards after a lot of receivers seem to be lacking. Overall, good player but I'm not impressed with the value.

    Peter Kiper Grade: B-

New York Giants select LB Alec Ogletree, Georgia 19th Overall

"...is an immature idiot". That says a lot about the player New York just selected, some scouts just don't have a high opinion of possibly the most talented player on Georgia's defense. It also doesn't help that Ogletree picked up a DUI just prior to the combine to help emphasis his off field problems and immaturity. However the Giants are a tough no nonsense franchise and would know how to deal with a player with Ogletrees attitude. Physically and skill wise Alec Ogletree is phenomenal, but a little slimmer than you'd want a linebacker because of his start at safety. Another player that borders the first and second round grade but works out because of where he lands, unless he becomes another Giant constantly looking for that big pay day.

    Peter Kiper Grade: B

Chicago Bears select TE Tyler Eifert, Notre Dame 20th Overall

I said it in an early mock that the Bears would not have to go far to get their starting Tight End and that Kellen Davis would be sent into a backup role where he belongs. After the fiasco that was yesterday Chicago still manages to get their guy. Eifert is close to what Kyle Rudolph was as a prospect coming out but isn't as polished as a pass catcher. I still think in how things worked out the Bears got a win here.

    Peter Kiper:

Denver Broncos select Barkevious Mingo, 21st Overall

Mingo is a solid pick as he is considered a top 15 prospect. He's only been playing football since his junior year in high school but what helps is his athleticism which can be attributed to his experience as a track athlete. A solid rusher with the ability to close in on offensive players Mingo has a svelte body type and should add muscle at the next level.

    Peter Kiper Grade: A

This just in... the Cowboys have finally selected...

Dallas Cowboys select DE Cornellius Carradine, Florida State 22nd Overall

Sometimes it doesn't pay to have a specific nick name, especially if it happens to be "Tank", I can think of several players who haven't really panned out. A good example would be Tank Tyler out of North Carolina State or the current Tank Carder who was drafted by the Bills only to be cut, luckily he managed to catch on to another team. However Carradine should be able to break the recent trend and become a solid contributor for the Cowboys. Though the 'Boys could have used this pick to fill some glaring holes, this isn't a terrible selection.

    Peter Kiper Grade: B

Minnesota Vikings select CB Desmond Trufant, 23rd Overall

We've already got some cute nicknames out there for the Trufant brothers like the Trufecta, the Flying Trufants. This is a great pick for the Vikings who continue to build one of the best defensive back units in the league. Trufant is a more complete corner than Rhodes but lacks that elite size that more teams are looking for after the success of the Seahawks bigger corners. However you know the game is in his blood and with his brothers he has the right atmosphere to learn in. We'll have to wait and see how much of an impact he can make as a possible starter.

    Randy Kiper:

Well now that we know Seattle will be stalling for a few more hours, we'll be able to catch on the past seven draft selections. Let's get to it.

St. Louis selects DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Clemson

This was an interesting pick as we wait hours for Dallas to submit their pick only to make a last minute trade with St. Louis. We expected the Rams to trade up for someone worthwhile but instead they jump up to select a wide receiver who shouldn't have sniffed the first round in DeAndre Hopkins. Hopkins has the athleticism and ability to make yards after the catch however sometimes he bites off more than he can chew. His body control, focus, and competitive spirit will allow him to be a successful wide receiver in the NFL but the question is how successful?

    Kiper Grade: B-

New York selects Alec Ogletree, LB, Georgia

The Giants selected quite possibly one of the best players in the draft here however they also were given one of the most immature dumbasses in the draft as well. Call it the Dez Bryant theory but I think the Giants got a heck of a player if they can keep him out of trouble. He didn't exactly help his draft stock with a DUI back in February either. I think this is a high risk, high reward draft pick for the Giants but I think this is a team that can a risk like this with Tom Coughlin calling the shots. I like the pick but it could really cost the Giants GM his job if it doesn't pan out in a year or two.

    Kiper Grade: B+

Chicago selects Tyler Eifert, TE, Notre Dame

The Bears tried to trade up for Eifert about seven picks earlier but things didn't work out... they seemingly lucked out by seeing their man fall to them. Eifert gives the Bears a nice seam threat option for Jay Cutler to work with which you know he is going to appreciate. Especially after they traded away his main man in Brandon Marshall that resulted in the acquisition of Desean Jackson. Tyler Eifert is no question the best tight end in this year's draft with great size, athleticism, and intelligence. I believe they got a great player in the firs round and that's about all you can ask for.

    Kiper Grade: A-

Denver selects Barkevious Mingo, DE, LSU

You can't really blame the Broncos for going Mingo here because of the value he presents. He's a borderline top fifteen player that went outside the top twenty. The Broncos have put together a pretty good defensive line with Mingo added to the roster. Mingo has a lot of talent with elite speed, explosive, and rare athleticism you don't often see in defensive linemen. I think you could see Mingo play left end in the Broncos 4-3 system with Carlos Dunlap switching over to the right side. Mingo should be able to at least offer support in obvious pass downs but I think he may be forced into a starting role.

    Kiper Grade: A

Dallas selects Cornellius 'Tank' Carradine, DE, Florida State

The Cowboys have a few needs right now, notably offensive guard, free safety, and nose tackle. However you can't blame them for adding some depth in rushing the passer with the loss of Anthony Spencer. Carradine is a raw prospect with a ton of potential however you can bet that with the addition of Dwight Freeney, he'll be learning from some of the top pass rushers in the NFL. Carradine may not start right away or even play much other than obvious passing downs in his first year however I think he will be able to provide an impact on defense. Overall a solid but not spectacular pick for the Cowboys. Cheers!

    Kiper Grade: B+

Minnesota selects Desmond Trufant, CB, Washington

The Vikings went for the TRUFECTA© today by selecting Desmond Trufant out of Washington. Trufant joins his two brothers, Marcus and Isaiah, in the City of Lakes to bolster an aging but very good secondary. Trufant is a very strong man-coverage cornerback and with good speed and agility. He's a very physical receiver but you have to question his run defense... hopefully a season with Antoine Winfield will help that. Trufant may not have to be the man right away in Minnesota but he has the confidence where I don't think it'll be long until he declares Minneapolis as Trufant Island.

    Kiper Grade: A

Green Bay selects Sheldon Richardson, DT, Missouri

At this point in ths draft we're looking at value and the Green Bay Packers may have gotten the best value in the draft since Eric Fisher went to Kansas City. The Packers are looking to make the switch to a 4-3 defense and they really needed someone to pair with Kyle Williams in the middle. Sheldon Richardson is exactly what they were looking for. Richardson played at a very consistent level with his combination of quickness, agility, and balance to go with his instinctiveness. He may be the weak link on the Packers defense line his rookie year but before long he will be someone to be gameplanned around. The Packers are off to a great start in this draft right now.

    Kiper Grade: A+

The Vikings selection of Trufant is solid. The third best corner in the draft class and likely top 25 pick. Sheldon Richardson to the Pack? Here at 24 is about where he should go. Couple of solid picks.

Not surprised to see the 49ers trade up here, they have a billion picks. No way they can "use" them all this year. Would expect them to move up a couple more times throughout the draft. Who would they be going up for here? Pretty good value here at both o line and d line. And they need both apparently.
