For all this crying about how no one goes to the games, the Marlins do consistently well in TV ratings. People in South Florida opt to watch them on TV rather than go to Dolphin Stadium to watch them in person. The reason for this is simple: during baseball season, it's either 90+ degrees out, or it's raining. You can't expect people to sit at the stadium for 3+ hours in those kinds of conditions. (Even the people who attend Dolphins games in September have to deal with that heat.)

Yeah, Marlins Stadium will be in a bad location, but I suspect the simple fact that it has a retractable roof will draw more people. I also believe the city of Miami will eventually work out a way to increase traffic to the area.

Ive heard this argument before. The weather is not a great excuse. South Florida is one of the most populated areas in the country, of course ratings are going to be good. With a large Cuban population here as well, it doesnt surprise me that people here are tuning in to see baseball.

Im sorry though, theres a HUGE difference between some not wanting to sit in the heat (mind you its not even that hot down here yet) and only 5000 people showing up to a game.

You live down here, right? Then you know exactly how the weather's been for the last couple of weeks. It was either 90+ degrees--my freaking cat suffered heat exhaustion and had to be taken to the vet--or, like yesterday and today, very dark and somewhat rainy.

No one is going to go out to the ballpark in those conditions. I wouldn't, and I make it a point to go to 4-6 games a year. (I'm going to the Braves series at the end of July, near my birthday.)

The retractable roof will make all the difference.

you put 15k in a stadium that holds 30k, and it looks a lot more full.

The fact that the stadium we play in has so many seats doesn't help the way it looks. 15,000 isn't great, but it's at least half capacity in a normal stadium. 30,000 is half full at DS.

Anyway we lost last night, the season is 162 games long. Just have to play hard and move on.

    My point has been proven.

The D-backs score 3 runs in three games against the Marlins pitchers. They score 5 runs in the first inning against the "Lowest ERA in the NL"...and 11 in one game. Bet it isnt the lowest any more... :wink2:

LOL its still the lowest. They scored 11 off of JoJo Reyes and Chris Resop. Besides, Arizona had a 6-game road losing streak and we both know that offense was due to break out like this.

I think his point is that it's pointless to have the lowest ERA if it doesn't win you anything. Stats are just stats; the only real number that matters is the one under the W column.

They need to make a stat called 'The Jeremy Hermida effect' for our pitchers. You could probably shave at least half a run off of it with the few plays he has made diving after balls and coming nowhere close and turning singles into triples.

Seriously though he has played better this year.

I'm not saying it isnt the lowest...but I would sure like to see a link providing that stat.

I KNOW the D-backs ERA is pretty darn low as well. :wink2:

LOL well you were right after last night the D-Backs took over the ERA lead from the Braves. I stand corrected. The Braves have given up fewer runs, but more were earned.

    Heres the link.

I dont think anyone would dissagree with that. The poster said there was no real contender in the NL east, I was making a case for the Braves with their pitching what it is. (Not to mention their offense aint too shabby :wink2:)

Everyone is a contender right now. We can all say why we don't think the other teams will last, but as of now we are all in it. So let's just see what happens.

If it makes you feel better the Braves are the only team I see sneaking up on us.

Anyway it just stopped raining where I am and is beautiful ( about 15-25 minutes from the stadium minus traffic) so hopefully this game gets underway.

Taking both games was nice, considering each game was a little too close for comfort.

6-4 would be nice, but would still keep us within striking distance.

I'd like 7-3, with 3 of those wins being a sweep--preferably of the Mets.

Not concerned with the Mets. They are two games below .500 now and I really don't see them getting much better. I'd like 10-0 but that probably won't happen.

How about we just try to win each series?

Getting swept by us at home is potentially enough to get Willie Randolph fired and put that team into a tailspin. When your enemy is reeling, don't let up; go for the kill.

Certainly not saying I don't WANT to sweep them

    3-0 against the Mets
    3-0 against the Phils
    4-0 against the Braves

    I can hope right?

    Right there with you, man.

I'm just saying, if we happen to sweep the Mets, that will be the crowning achievement of the road trip and will do quite a bit for us in terms of the stretch.

I think we'll be okay. Santana is a franchise pitcher, but we're not exactly a bad team.

I'm still rooting for a sweep. Sweep the Mets, and Randolph likely gets fired. Nothing ticks a Noo Yawkah off more than losing to a Florida team.

Very important series this early in the season. Will be nice to see if the Fish can compete with the Phillies. Ryan Howard kills our pitching. Here's hoping for the best.
