The Vengeful Byrd Aftermath. Acquired: Round 1 Pick 21 & 32 and saved $10 million by not matching Byrd ($7 million if he never bid) This allowed me the space to add Greg Toler, Chad Reinhart (assuming I win), Donald Thomas and Mike Goodson as I had planned to stay out of FA with the Loadholt deal + Byrd's tag keeping me tight on the cap. This allowed me to flip Kraig Urbik for a high 4 (110) This also allowed me to acquire a 4th in a trade down of a mere 3 spots from 21 to 24. So Byrd = Round 1 - 24, Round 1 -32, Round 4 -110, Round 4 - 119, CB Greg Toler, RG Donald Thomas, OG Chad Rinehart (assuming I win bid) and RB Mike Goodson (Assuming I win bid). With still more to come as I move down in the draft and fund my entire draft off Byrd ;p
Thought it might be fun to see how the individual players are doing at various points of the season on PFF. Granted it's a very inexact measure but what the hell. As of 3 games in: Philip Rivers QB PFF #2 Kevin Kolb QB IR I knew Rivers had something left in him...but so far this season he's on fire. Great trade for me. HB: CJ Spiller PFF #56 3.6 avg Kendall Hunter PFF: Unranked 2.8 avg Mike Goodson PFF: Unranked Banned 4 games Christine Michael PFF: Unranked. 4.1 avg on 9 attempts in first game played Dorin Dickerson Cut/Unsigned Fully expected more from this group. Although I think behind my line Spiller would be ballin' not to mention with Rivers on fire...he wouldn't be seeing many 8 man boxes. Still think Christine Michael will turn into the best back from this draft if he keeps his head straight. TE: Brent Celek PFF #31 Scott Chandler PFF #35 Matt Spaeth Injured PFF doesn't like non blocking TE's so no surprise here. Spaeth will possibly be back later in the season. He was my gem signing as a hell of a specialist TE blocker. Malcom Floyd PFF #14 24.8 avg catch Darrius Heyward-Bey PFF #39 Josh Morgan PFF #30 Damaris Johnson PFF: Unranked 26.5 avg KR. Special teamer. Quinton Patton PFF: Unranked Not being used...but lots of calls to give him a try. OL: Eugene Monroe PFF #55 Rough couple weeks to open season but no sacks given up. Facing KC, Oak, Seattle passrush Phil Loadholt PFF #34 Solid run blocking but getting abused against the passrush early. Cleveland got to him. Donald Thomas PFF #30 IR John Greco PFF #27 Digging out of that hole he started with thanks to Miami. 2 solid games after that. Chad Rinehart PFF #43 Hey my backup is almost rated as high as Miami's starter at RG ;p Brian Schwenke PFF: Unranked Fell behind in camp injured. Might see time later in the season as their starting Center is ranked in the bottom 3 of PFF. Nothing else worth mentioning here. Fully expect the tackles to improve as the season goes on. Same with Greco. ST: Andy Lee PFF 29. Struggling early like Fields Josh Scobee PFF 35 Only has 2 attempts both made. Needs more work. DL: Fred Evans PFF 60 Gary Gibson PFF Unranked Mike Daniels PFF PFF #10 3-4 DE Cedric Thornton PFF #17 3-4 DE Akeem Spence PFF #21 DT/NT Solid 2.0 versus the run with 1/1/3 pass rushing and 5 stops Mario Williams #11 3-4 OLB 5/1/9 Brian Orakpo #21 3-4 OLB 1/5/8 Put those boys back at 4-3 ;p Looks like Akeem would have fit perfectly for me as the 0/1 after Evans flopped and Daniels/Thornton would make solid 3's despite both moving to 5's. MLB Mason Foster #4 MLB 2/2/5 Steven Johnson (Backup in Denver) PFF: Unranked SLB: O'Brien Schofield SLB/DE #22 4-3 DE #16 OLB 1/2/3 Splits time between DE and LB Cooper Taylor PFF: Unranked Moved by Giants to SS. Made Roster WLB: Khaseem Greene PFF Unranked (Has a pair of top 10 OLB's in front of him. Future Lance Briggs replacement?) CB Josh Wilson PFF: 92 Trumaine Johnson PFF: 22 Greg Toler PFF: 50 Dwayne Gratz PFF: Unranked Won starting job but injured and missing a few games. Chykie Brown PFF: Unranked ST's. Looks like here Trumaine and Gratz would be the starters with Toler #4 and Josh Wilson demoted to the nickel. Safeties: Da'Norris Searcy PFF #66 Missed tackles? He's got 4 of those. 13 tackles overall. 1/0/1 and a 26.4 QBR against...Have to look deeper into this low ranking. Yeremiah Bell PFF: #73 Bacarri Rambo: PFF #82 Daimion Stafford PFF: Unranked. St'er Bradley McDougald PFF: Unranked Looks like my safeties are the weak link that may need a major overhaul in the offseason.
Say what you want about the Bills, I like Manuel. The guy looks like Steve McNair, and that's scary. If Manuel becomes the next McNair, they got a franchise quarterback. A damn good one.
Learned a lot in the first year. Hopefully I got time for next GML. Depends how deep into Star Citizen I get. Though its always light at work so I could just do it from there. Probably won't post as much though and drop the persona. Try to run for more then feud of the year!
Ok time for an end of season look back at my team. Scared to look ;p Philip Rivers QB PFF #2 rating. Took a gamble in trading for Rivers with the belief that providing him more weapons would improve him. Rare win on my part. 101.8 QB rating for the year. Kevin Kolb QB Took a shot to the noggin and went to IR. CJ Spiller RB PFF #53. Looks like he'll never be a featured single back guy due to the knicks and injuries he builds up and plays with, but still put up 4.6 yards per carry and 933 yards for the season. PFF hates though. Kendall Hunter RB Put up a 4.6 avg and 358 yards. Mike Goodson RB Drama of course surrounding him. Only allowed to get into 2 games. 7 rushes for 61 yards. Christine Michael RB Buried on Seahawks depth chart. Rushed 18 times for 79 yards and a 4.4 avg. Dorin Dickerson FB Cut and signed with the Lions as a WR. Caught 2 passes with them. Brent Celek TE PFF#6 32 for 502 yards. This was interesting as I tried to free up cap space from the Bills huge DL expenses. Traded Dareus PFF #6 DT for Celek #6 TE, PFF 3-4 DE #9 Cedric Thornton (3rd overall run stopper) and a 4th round pick. Called insane at the time............I think it worked out. Scott Chandler TE PFF #41. 53 for 633 yards. Could have been a deadly TE pairing I think. Matt Spaeth TE. Injured most of the year. Hopefully rebounds back to his 2012 best blocking TE self in 2014. Malcom Floyd WR. 6 catches for 149 yards but was injured in game 2 with an IR causing neck injury. Darrius Heyward-Bey WR PFF #107. Ouch. 29 for 309 yards. Never fit well in Indy. Josh Morgan, WR PFF #65 20 for 214 yards. Damaris Johnson WR Non factor in new Eagles system. 25.9avg on 17 kick returns. 8.3 avg on 12 punt returns. Quinton Patton, WR Non factor for 49ers this year. Eugene Monroe - LT PFF #12 OT. Overcame rocky start in Jacksonville to climb all the way to 12 in Baltimore. Phil Loadholt - RT PFF #10 OT. $16 million well spent. Hell of a tackle pair going forward. Donald Thomas RG. Injured but playing alright at LG (would have been a better RG in my opinion) when he went down. John Greco - LG PFF #32. Miami/2 Cinci games drove down his rating. Chad Rinehart OG PFF #42. Solid backup guard. Brian Schwenke, C PFF #28 Rough start but finished only 3 spots behind Eric Wood who I flipped for a 4th Andy Lee P PFF#11 Josh Scobee K PFF#14 Cedric Thornton DT PFF #9 3-4 DE (#3 run stuffer). Specifically targeted in trade for Dareus. Mike Daniels DT PFF #6 3-4 DE. 6.5 sacks rated well in passrush/run stopping. Another trade I was considered nuts for in my move to free up cap space along the DL. Got 24 year old Mike Daniels and RB Kendall Hunter for Kyle Williams. Freed up cap space and got younger. Akeem Spence, DT PFF#67. Rough start for the rookie but got to start 14 games for Tampa. Fred Evans DT PFF#46 DT/NT Gary Gibson DT, Rough rough year. Mario Williams DE PFF #17 3-4 OLB. 14 sacks, 7 hits and 48 hurries. Brian Orakpo - DE PFF #4 3-4 OLB. 11 sacks, 11 hits and 29 hurries and 1 INT. Paid a high high price but pass rushing is a premium and that's a devastating pair of off the edge. Mason Foster, MLB PFF #32. Seems a bit rough. Had 2 sacks and 3 INT's. Had a lot of missed tackles though and PFF hates that. O'Brien Schofield SLB Depth in Seattle didn't play much. Khaseem Greene WLB Stuck behind veteran in Chicago. Didn't do much to impress when filling in. Dwayne Gratz, CB PFF#38 and my saving grace rookie draft pick who shines in place of my bum CB's. Greg Toler CB #75 Trumaine Johnson CB #71. Fell down go boom. Josh Wilson CB PFF#80. Ouch ;p Bacarri Rambo, FS PFF#79. Jesus Da'Norris Searcy SS PFF #48 Yeremiah Bell SS #44 Best draft pick: Gratz. Others still have promise but too green. Worse draft pick: Quitton Patton. 2 catches for your top draft pick. Blargh. Best Trade: Although I'm partial to my DT trades.....Philip Rivers bar none. Worse Trade: Stealing Lavonte David and letting myself get guilted by Tampa's GM into trading him back ;p Best FA Signing. Phil Loadholt. Especially with the drama it caused ;p Worse FA Signing. Darrius Heyward-Bey for $6.5 million. Granted it was at the end of the game so there wasn't much to do with the cash...but player disappoints. Area to improve on scouting wise. Secondary. Damn did I suck there.
