The combine (so far) isn't looking good for us at #14

And Arthur Lynch is a high character player.

The previous two drafts at Tampa I think the Bucs took only two guys who weren't captain types. In Miami even though Aikens was a captain I think it's safe to say they understood when they took him that he was a character risk.

There we have it; look for team captains.

Unless Mike Tannenbaum has changed the way they regard captains or captain types.

Incidentally the college landscape is so varied with respect to captains that it's not just about taking team captains. Many teams don't even have captains for the year. They have different captains every week. They have leadership councils. There's a lot of stuff going on there. Some of the guys who have been labeled as "captains" above were really only maybe a game captain for a week or two or on the leadership council.

Just suffice it to say Hickey is a guy that will mostly steer toward high character players, team leader captain types, especially in the early rounds, but that he seems comfortable taking one or maybe two character gambles every draft toward the mid to late rounds.

Examples of those include William Gholston and Walt Aikens.

don't you think there is any chance because philbin knows his job is on the line bigtime, he would sign up on a guy like DGB ?

I honestly believe there is zero chance that Miami is going to draft DGB.

I'd rather take DeVante Parker at #14 than trade up for Amari Copper or Kevin White. Its going to take at least our 2nd round pick (probably more) to move up in this draft, and there is some good talent in the 2nd and later rounds I am not willing to forfeit just to get the talent difference between Cooper and Parker. And I dont think Ros would allow the trading of future draft picks considering there might be a regime change next offseason.

For once I think we have the chance to stay put at our draft position and have good options. We wont be forced to overdraft someone (Jake Long, Mike Pouncey, Ja'Wuan James), or take a tweener or a developmental player (Dion Jordan), or wait for a good player with character concerns to fall to us (Vontae Davis). I think we are going to have some legit options at #14 in this draft.

Putting aside the off-field issues, isn't DGB a bit too raw to be counted on having an immediate impact? Couldn't his lack of actual playing experience be as much of a turn-off to the FO if they are in a won now mode as the arrests and dv allegations?

Fact of the matter is I don't believe Dorial Green-Beckham will be Joe Philbin's call.

The bigger impediments are Dennis Hickey and Steve Ross.

Dennis Hickey's final grade on DGB will determine his draft standing. Mike Tannenbaum could step in and have an influence on how red flags are treated with respect to the draft board, and he could get Steve Ross involved on the issue of whether to take a chance on Dorial Green-Beckham. But if Hickey doesn't have DGB rated as a rare talent, if he focuses on the tape flaws from when DGB was only a redshirt freshman, basically using them as an excuse to say he's really not that rare a talent anyway, then it's over as far as the 1st round goes.

Another problem is that Steve Ross has said that he's instituting a zero tolerance policy on domestic violence, in the wake of the Ray Rice situation. So it's questionable if Ross would be willing to risk looking like he's going back on his word. When he made that statement he was basically saying that the Dolphins will not look to acquire Ray Rice, so it seems like past transgressions might count toward this zero tolerance policy. So even if Dennis Hickey is more willing to get chancy with a Dorial Green-Beckham in the 2nd round (and I think he might, and so will Tannenbaum), you could have a situation where Ross just doesn't green-light it.

It is not his call, however he will have input.

Doubt his input will factor in. If for example Dennis Hickey, Tannenbaum and Ross were on board but Philbin were not? His input wouldn't matter a lick.

Where does the rubber meet the road on that? I doubt he's going to be asked to educate himself on DGB's background in order to give an informed opinion on what he thinks of DGB. I doubt he was the one that interviewed DGB at the Combine. I think he's going to be asked his opinion on how DGB fits schematically and in terms of importance of the position or role, and at this point the more relevant opinion on that subject will probably be Bill Lazor's.

If that's the case they should've gone after Josh Evans from UF.

Devin Funchess played for Michigan, not Michigan State. And he would be better served at TE IMO.
