yeah I agree, he is Bay 2.0...free agents should give the Monster some money.....that wall has made alot of people look good over the years, and money for people...
Eh I wouldn't say he's Bay 2.0 since he's younger and even if he doesn't hit his defense alone makes him very valueble. But I don't think there's anyway he repeats his 2010 season which was helped out mostly by a high BABIP, mainly with 2 strikes.
Oh gotcha. Yeah I think it was pretty obvious Bay wouldn't come close to putting up those numbers in CitiField but I also didn't think he'd be a disaster there either before he got hurt.
And the Cy Young winner is..... Roy Halladay. As expected, he clearly deserved it. This was an easy choice. Tomorrow is going to be the interesting one between Felix Hernandez (who should win) and his lack of run support vs. CC Sabathia and his (meaningless) win total.
Arizona is making Stephen Drew and Justin Upton available in trade talk. The Red Sox have already checked in on Upton's availablity (as any team should). I doubt either are moved, especially Upton who's young, has a good long term contract and is very good. It would take a lot to get him.
I will hate you forever if the Sox get Upton. You have J.D Drew. Can't you guys just leave well enough alone? /wants the Braves to get him
Haha, I doubt Upton gets moved. It feels like almost a non-story. Why would Arizona even move Upton right now (who's young, cheap and good)? It just sounds like GMs are talking to each other and trying to gauge the market for certain guys like they usually do. I'm sure teams have called the Braves up and asked them about Heyward too.
While I would have put Price over Sabathia on my personal ballot (Sabathia would probably fall to at least #5 on my ballot). I think the award (in the writer's minds) is down to Felix vs. CC, mainly because they see CC's shiny win total and fall in love with it.
You shut your mouth. I hear you. I also would be surprised if they move Upton. I mean, they gave that abortion of a contract to Chris Young.
And a terrible contract to Mark Reynolds too and that's not even talking about the extensions to Eric Byrnes and Dan Haren. I'm going to go ahead and say that the Diamondback front office isn't exactly batting 1.000 when it comes to giving guys extensions. None of them have seemed to work out well recently. Although I still think Upton will turn into a star. The other guys just had huge red flags.
Not sure how I feel about that. He had a great season last year, but that was one season. I hope we don't over pay.
Great season is debatable. Defense aside, he hit HRs, that's about the only thing he did well. He had a career high in BA but that was most likely aided by his high BABIP. But catchers do typically peak later so maybe he's just starting to enter his prime (though I wouldn't bet on it) nor do I think he'd be able to keep up his HR total moving to the NL.
He does have power. Power we may need after we trade Uggla. But, rotoworld is estimating something near 20 millions dollars over 3 years. He's not worth that.
90 HRs in 2553 career plate appearances with a .421 SLG and .722 OPS doesn't exactly scream out power. Plus you need to factor in him playing in Florida now, so by logic those numbers will dip. His 'power' isn't going to replace Uggla's. But he's an upgrade over Baker/Paulino combo. Word is it's over 15 million for 3 years.
I don't know, I'm not a huge fan of his so I'm glad he's not signing with the Sox. I could just as easily see him hit 10 HRs as opposed to 20 plus there, it's not like Toronto wasn't a good hitter's park. And outside of his 2007 season in which he hit 18 HRs, he's never shown that type of power (not even in the minors), so I wouldn't bet on it. People also need to realize that along with his 20 HR season, he had an OBP of .314, so he was almost an automatic out and wasn't real useful outside of 45 extra base hits. It's funny that if Buck is getting a 3 yr/15 million plus deal, he's basically getting 1 million dollars per walk last year (he had 16 walks total).
20 homeruns from a catcher in one season does scream out power. That's a 11 homerun increase from last season for the Marlins, and could help make up for the power lost when we trade Uggla.
Reminds me when a team called about Hanley and we laughed them off the phone. And then the media picked up on it and wrote "Marlins in trade discussions involving Hanley Ramirez" and people flipped out. Not a fan. I don't think he's really an upgrade over the Baker/Paulino platoon either. Paulino has a career .881 OPS against lefties. Baker has a career .790 OPS against righting (370 OBP). I doubt Buck is going to come close to either of those numbers. I'm willing to bet Buck wouldn't even be an option if Bake was healthy and Paulino wasn't suspended.
Some rumors: Yankees are looking at Bill Hall as a ULT guy, they might have an edge because Hall works out with Yankee hitting coach Kevin Long in the off season Red Sox have reportedly told Boras/Beltre they won't go above 4/52 for him (so if true thankfully he won't be back in Boston). Red Sox have been getting interest in Marco Scutaro. Personally if they can get something good back for him I'd be very interested in moving him. I'm comfortable going with Jed Lowrie to start the year, giving Jose Iglesias some time in the minors to work on his hitting since his defense is already MLB ready.
Tigers close to signing Joaquin Benoit to a 3 year deal. Seems very risky to me due to Benoit's injury history.
With the Padres trading for permaprospect Cameron Maybin, does that free up the possibility of moving AG? I'd think it does as Maybin at least offers the hope of some power hitting potential even if it is of the Preston Wilson variety, CF was a waste land for production at the plate in 09.
I doubt it, I don't think one thing has to do with the other. If anything it weaks the Jacoby Ellsbury to SD for Gonzalez rumors unless SD views Ellsbury as a LFer. Maybin, as inconsistent as he's been in the majors, is better than Tony Gwynn/Scott Hairston/whoeverelseplayedCFforthePadreslastyear defensively and has a higher ceiling offensively too.
Bob Nightengale is reporting that the Yankees met with the Diamondbacks about Justin Upton but their package of prospects didn't match up. Says the Red Sox have the strongest interest right now. I still don't think Upton will get moved and think this is the typical Winter Meetings trade rumor stuff but I'd rather have Upton and his contract than either Crawford or Werth and their potential contracts.
Exactly, Maybin's potential 15 hr's 60 rbi's 180 strikeouts is actually an improvement in production from CF..
More rumors today: Adam Dunn is in serious talks with the Tigers, some are reporting a deal is close. Oakland has offered Adrian Beltre a 5 year deal (take it Beltre) Hideki Matsui is talking to the White Sox and Oakland A's. EDIT: Oakland's offer is 5/64.
What a mindnumbingly awful deal. He's on the wrong side of 30, and he will have to repeat his '10 performance in each of the next three years to even earn his salary. Considering his BABiP last year was an unsustainable .201, that seems rather unlikely.
I agree, but it just goes to show you how desperate teams are for bullpen help. I wouldn't give the guy more than a 2 year deal on the cheap.
Arizona would probably ask for one or both of LoMo/Mike Stanton, Marlins next best position prospect and the Marlins best pitching prospect at the very least. There's no reason why the Diamondbacks have to or should trade Upton. He's young, good and signed to a favorable contract. The Diamondbacks are a few years away from being good so Nolasco doesn't help them. I'd be shocked if Upton is moved because the price tag would have to be extremely high for any team to make that deal.
