The 2009 NBA Finals thread - Orlando Magic vs L.A. Lakers

The Lakers wont win in Orlando.

 

I've always had a small feeling Phil's teams lose some games in the finals on purpose to win the championship at home. Looking back at Phil, when he's got a 2-0 lead with homecourt advantage in the Finals, he tends to "give up" 2 games on the road to win it all at home. 1995-96 HC advantage against Seattle, won 2-0 in lopsided affairs, lost 2 in Seattle lopsided and won 1, finished at home with a W in Game 6. 1996-97, HC advantage against Utah, won 2-0 to start, lost 2 and won 1 away, finished at home with a W. 1999-2000 was the next time they had HC advantage with a 2-0 start against the Pacers, lost 2 games on the road, won 1 on the road and finished at home. Only anomaly was the Nets series, which came after a tough 7 game series against the Queens in 2000-01. In the road losses, it seemed like the effort wasn't there if they already won one on the road and effort was somewhat there when they hadn't won one on the road.

Right, and Orlando didn't lose game 2 when they easily could have won.

GOD DAMN IT!

I knew.it. My instincts told me this was Orlando's game..and all I did was buy them for a C.

...Orlando has this one, I think. yes it is the 1st quarter now...but the pace is there...the Lakers are getting called for rebounding fouls and Howard is asserting himself...ALL VERY GOOD signs for the magic.

Orlando just looks like a winner in this game.

I feel like I am losing money by not betting more on them.

 

Yeah not too shabby for a Stan Van Gundy coached team huh?

Orlando choked.

How many free throws did they miss? 5-point lead with under a minute left. All Howard has to do is hit one free throw to ice it. He misses both.

They had their chance and they choked.

 

Meanwhile, Los Angeles has earned it. Every time Orlando has given them a chance, they've taken advantage of it.

At least it's been a good series overall.
