DAVIE - The Karate Kid had Mr. Miyagi. Dolphins third-year receiver Derek Hagan had Pro Bowl receivers Chris Chambers and Marty Booker. But who do Ted Ginn Jr. and the rest of the current Dolphins kiddie receiver corps have to learn the nuances of route running from, other than their position coach? http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/football/pro/dolphins/sfl-flspdolspec31sbjul31,0,6620670.story
This article is exactly what I was telling you Calphin in the earlier threads. He would be an on-field mentor for the guys as well as an off-the field (film room).
If Bess can carry his practice field success through the pre-season he will make the roster, even with Glenn around. However, it may cost one of the fullbacks/h-backs/TEs their spot. I could see us carrying three RBs, one FB and two or three tight ends, in that case so that either Mauia or Grigsby goes, and Parmele, Cobbs and Hilliard fight for the last RB spot, with the others hitting the practise squad. They might clear waivers, but Bess absolutely wouldn't, imo.
Well, Hagan didn't exactly make the most out of being with Chambers and Booker. But I do agree a veteran presence at WR is sorely needed. Glenn wasn't what I was hoping for but better than nothing.
If Parmele makes it, Cobbs probably doesn't. That choice will probably come down to which of them is better on special teams and picking up blitzers in pass-pro.
It makes sense for him to sign. I have serious concerns about his healt tho. I think that we would be fine without him tho. Ginn, Hagan, and Wilford should be solid. Its going to be great to have Wilford becuase of his run blocking
Bess has been like a Gecko so far with suction cup hands and everyone has reported tha he has only dropped like one pass. Yes Camarillo played here last year, but he's in the same boat as Beck, a clean slate. If Bess can make it through training camp without catcing the dreaded "Dolphins Dropsies" and then line him up. At this point I don't care who it is just catch the ball.
Good, so the players would be excited. I don't really give a damn what the folks on this board have to say about it. At least not the negative ones
If he can pass the physical I would give him a look at least. (We do have a different set of DR's now don't we? Don't want the ones who said "take C-pep his knee is fine, pass on Brees shoulder not ready).
I think Bess will be here for awhile unless he has a dramatic turn around. I agree that a TE would be cut in favor of Bess here. We have six TE's on the roster right now. Ryan, Peele, Halterman, Fasano, Martin and Mulligan. Out of those, I expect Mulligan to be possibly cut to make room for Glenn. I see us keeping Ryan, Fasano and I'm not sure about the third one. Peele or Martin. Martin drops a lot of balls but I'm not sure of his salary. Peele can block but he's been on the bike in TC. My guess would be Peele. On the RB's, I agree that we keep three. Ricky, Ronnie and Parmele. Hilliard on the PS? Cobbs is gone imo. Did he ever sign his tender? I'm not sure what to make of the Fullback spot. As previously mentioned, Grigsby hasn't been on the ST's which raises questions about his future here. Mauia was good for us last year but that was last year. I think this is one of the better battles in camp that we should keep an eye on. Bpk, how many receivers do you think we keep on the roster? I'm looking at five, possibly six. Bess, Hagan, Wilford, Ginn, Glenn and possibly Camarillo. I can't see them not making the team lol. They've been so impressive.
Although I would like to bring him in, I am a little tentative due only to the injury factor... Unless of course he signs a deal where we can drop him if he gets hurt and there's no future cap implications. I know it sounds cold but looking at it from the teams perspective, I dont want to sign a 34 yr old WR comming off not one but TWO knee surgeries and get disappointed ala Fred Banks.
I got your point, but frankly, I'm glad Chris Chambers isn't around to "mentor" anyone. Maybe that was Hagan's problems with the dropsies.
I wish, realistically I think there's another FL team that seems like a much more probable landing spot. I read that the Jaguars were interested in him too...
so do we sit on our thumbs while we wait for glenn to pass his physical? which may not be till the end of tc or do we say fogitaboudit? i don't see us making a trade of playr/pick for anyone so who else is on the fa list that is just as good as a healthy glenn? i couldn't think of anybody right off the bat and i know there is still cuts to be made but im not one for bringing in guys at the last minute.
You know... that's probably true. I think it'd be a good signing for him to mentor to Ted Ginn Jr, but I don't see him making a huge impact on the field.
